Abstract

Abstract We analyze the secrecy attributes of an energy‐harvesting‐enabled decode‐and‐forward relay‐based cooperative nonorthogonal multiple access (NOMA) system in the presence of an eavesdropper. Information flow through the wireless channel exposes legitimate users to eavesdropping by unintended users on confidential information. We study the secrecy performance of two‐user NOMA systems by calculating the secrecy outage probability (SOP) and ergodic secrecy capacity (ESC). An eavesdropper overhears the signal from a source and relays it from a relay node. We evaluate the secrecy performance of both nodes (i.e., relay node ( ) and distant node ( )) by developing a novel closed‐form expression for node . For node , we evaluate an analytical but intractable expression of SOP and tractable analytical expression of ESC. We examine the effects of network parameters on secrecy and link outages. We also observe the reliability of the link outage probability of node and system outage probability. Monte Carlo simulations are conducted to verify the analytical results and evaluate the effect of SOP on imperfect channel state information and perfect channel state information.

Exploiting secure performance in power domain–based multiple access: Impacts of relay link/direct link and secure analysis

Dinh‐Thuan Do, Minh‐Sang Van Nguyen, Thi‐Anh Hoang

Summary A new design of secure nonorthogonal multiple access (NOMA) deployed together with cooperative relaying network is investigated in two modes including direct link and relay link. This paper proposes a mathematical analysis under secrecy considerations of a downlink two‐user NOMA systems. In particular, physical layer security of NOMA is studied in two specific metrics to achieve secure performance analysis such as the secrecy outage probability (SOP) and probability of strictly positive secrecy capacity (SPSC). It should be further explored the situation as the illegal user which is assumed to be eavesdropper at the information level, it attempts to decode the information intended to legal users while NOMA scheme is employed for legal users. The transmission techniques of NOMA equipping relaying architecture (dual‐hop transmission) have proposed due to improving the spectrum efficiency greatly compared with the traditional single‐hop networks. Finally, this study shows the advantages of NOMA over the traditional orthogonal multiple access in the studied problems analytically and numerical analysis is further provided. As important achievement, new exact and closed‐form expressions of the SOP and SPSC are derived, and they will be confirmed by simulation, ie, Monte Carlo simulations are performed to verify the proposed analytical results. Ultimately, the effects of some critical factors are studied on secure performance through these simulation results.

Evaluating secrecy performance of cooperative NOMA networks under existence of relay link and direct link

Minh‐Sang Van Nguyen, Dinh‐Thuan Do

Summary The secrecy performance of a nonorthogonal multiple access (NOMA) system is examined in this study by employment of a dual‐hop decode‐and‐forward (DF) relay under existence of eavesdropper. Due to the fact that the relay is trusted or untrusted device and thus eavesdropper may wiretap information from the base station or the relay. In this regard, three scenarios related to trusted and untrusted relays are proposed, with different assumptions on the information overhearing ability of the eavesdropper; ie, the first scenario is that an eavesdropper overhears signal from the relay while the BS is overheard by eavesdropper in the second scenarios. More specifically, we derive closed‐form expressions for the secure probability metrics when the direct and relay links experience independent Rayleigh fading. There metrics include strictly positive secrecy capacity (SPSC) and the secure outage probability (SOP). Furthermore, secure performance of traditional orthogonal multiple access (OMA) is also provided as further comparison with NOMA counterpart. We analyze the influence of main coefficients such as the target rates and the transmit SNR factors on the secrecy performance. Our results specify that for reasonable selection of such parameters, secrecy performance can be enhanced remarkably. Numerical results are delivered to corroborate the derived results.

On the Secrecy Performance of Cooperative Uplink NOMA Network with SIC Imperfections

Kankanala Kavitha, Suseela Vappangi, Kiran Kumar Godugu

This paper investigates the physical-layer security (PLS) aspects of the uplink cooperative non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) in the context of two user scenario. More specifically, this work employs the decode-and-forward (DF) relay for not only establishing a connection between the far user and base station (BS) but also enhancing the performance of far user whose channel is prone to the detrimental effects of fading and shadowing. The secrecy performance comparison between two users i.e., near user and far user is obtained under perfect and imperfect successive interference cancellation (SIC) assumptions and even the performance of FU is improved by using DF relay and instantaneous channel gain decoding order is considered at the BS under two cases. This paper analyses the performance of cooperative uplink NOMA network in the presence of an external eavesdropper in terms of secrecy ergodic capacity (SEC), secrecy ergodic sum capacity (SESC), and secrecy outage probability (SOP). This work derives the closed-form analytical expressions of SOP and SEC metrics for both strong and weak users with perfect and imperfect SIC cases in order to characterise the secrecy performance of the proposed secure cooperative NOMA network. Further, the outcomes of the simulations are shown as evidence for both the validation of the mathematical analysis and the performance of the proposed method.

Secure Outage Analysis for Cooperative NOMA Systems With Antenna Selection

Xinyue Pei, Hua Xing Yu, Miaowen Wen +2 more

The secrecy outage probability (SOP) performance is investigated for a cooperative non-orthogonal multiple access system under eavesdropping attack, where a base station transmits signals to a far user via a full-duplex relay, and to a near user directly at the same time, in the presence of an eavesdropper. All nodes are configured with multiple antennas and antenna selection is adopted by the base station and relay to enhance the security performance. The exact and asymptotic closed-form SOP expressions are derived, which incorporate the impact of imperfect channel state information and apply to general cases considering the quality of service of the far and near users, whether or not the wiretap channel is known, and the location of the eavesdropper. Monte Carlo simulations corroborate the analysis and the superiority of the proposed system over the single-antenna system and the one without antenna selection. It is also revealed that the asymptotic SOP performance of the near user is nearly independent of the power allocation.

Secure Performance of AF and DF Relaying in Cooperative Noma Systems

Nesrine Zaghdoud, Wided Hadj Alouane, Hatem Boujemâa +1 more

In this paper, we study the secrecy outage probability (SOP)and the strictly positive secrecy capacity (SPSC)of cooperative non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA)system with a single antenna over Rayleigh fading channel in which there are a source, a relay node, two destinations and one eavesdropper. The relay adopts amplify-and-forward (AF)and decode-and-forward (DF)relaying schemes. The SOP and SPSC performance are analyzed to evaluate the level of security granted to legitimate users for both AF and DF protocols. The effects of the optimal power allocation value on system performance are also discussed and provided through numerical results.

Secrecy Performance Analysis of Cooperative Nonorthogonal Multiple Access in IoT Networks

Ashish Rauniyar, Olav N. Østerbø, Jan Erik Håkegård +1 more

Differentsystemmodels utilizing nonorthogonal multiple access (NOMA) have been successfully studied to meet the growing capacity demands of the Internet of Things IoT) devices for the next-generation networks. However, analyzing the antieavesdropping for NOMA systems under different scenarios and settings still needs further exploration before it can be practically deployed. Therefore, in this article, we study the secrecy performance of a cooperative NOMA system in the IoT networks where two source nodes communicate with their respective destination nodes via a common relay in the presence of an eavesdropper. Specifically, two source nodes send their data in parallel over the same frequency band to the common relay node using uplink NOMA. Then, the relay node forwards the decoded symbols to the respective destination nodes using downlink NOMA in the presence of an eavesdropper. To enhance the security performance of the considered system, we study and propose an artificial noise (AN)-aided scheme in which the two destination nodes emit a jamming signal to confuse the eavesdropper while receiving the signal from the common relay node. We also study the effect of NOMA power allocation, perfect successive interference cancellation (pSIC), and imperfect successive interference cancellation (ipSIC) on the considered system. Analytical expressions for the ergodic capacity (EC), ergodic secrecy sum rate (ESSR), and secrecy outage probability (SOP) are mathematically derived and verified with the simulation results. Our results demonstrate that a significantly higher ESSR and lower SOP of the system can be attained compared to a conventional NOMA system without a destination-assisted jamming signal scheme.
