Research on topological models unveils fascinating physics, especially in the realm of dynamical quantum phase transitions (DQPTs). However, the understanding of entanglement structures and properties near DQPT in models with longer-range hoppings is far from complete. In this work, we study DQPTs in the quenched extended Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model. Anomalous DQPTs, where the number of critical momenta exceeds the winding number differences between the prequench and postquench phases, are observed. We find that the entanglement exhibits local maximum (minimum) around the anomalous DQPTs, in line with the level crossings (separations) around the middle of the correlation matrix spectrum. We further categorize the phases in the equilibrium model into two classes and distinctive features in the time evolution of the entanglement involving quenches within and across the two classes are identified. The findings pave the way to a better understanding of topological models with longer-range hoppings in the out-of-equilibrium regime.
Abstract Disorders and long-range hoppings can induce exotic phenomena in condensed matter and artificial systems. We study the topological and dynamical properties of the quasiperiodic Su–Schrier–Heeger model with long-range hoppings. It is found that the interplay of quasiperiodic disorder and long-range hopping can induce topological Anderson insulator phases with non-zero winding numbers ω = 1 , 2 , and the phase boundaries can be consistently revealed by the divergence of zero-energy mode localization length. We also investigate the nonequilibrium dynamics by ramping the long-range hopping along two different paths. The critical exponents extracted from the dynamical behavior agree with the Kibble–Zurek mechanic prediction for the path with W = 0.90 . In particular, the dynamical exponent of the path crossing the multicritical point is numerical obtained as 1 / 6 ∼ 0.167 , which agrees with the unconventional finding in the previously studied XY spin model. Besides, we discuss the anomalous and non-universal scaling of the defect density dynamics of topological edge states in this disordered system under open boundary condictions.
In this work, we investigate quantum quenches in the two-leg Creutz model with long-range hopping, where the hopping amplitudes decay with distance as a power law characterized by an exponent
ν and have a finite range
D. We first obtain the exact solution of a generic two-band model in momentum space. This allows us to compute the Loschmidt amplitude and, consequently, the dynamical free energy
f(t) of the two-band model. We also show how to determine the Yang-Lee Fisher (YLF) zeros by solving a nonlinear equation. We demonstrate that the two-leg Creutz model in momentum space is a special case of the generic two-band model. Using these results, we identify the non-analyticities in the dynamical free energy
f(t) at critical times
tc. We find that the number of nontrivial critical times
Ns depends on both
ν and
D. In particular, we show that for small
ν and large
D the critical times become increasingly dense, leading, in the appropriate regime, to non-analyticities at an increasingly dense set of times---similar to what was observed by Xavier and Hoyos [Phys. Rev. B,
108, 214303 (2023)] in the Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) model with long-range hopping terms.
Abstract The dynamical and topological properties of non-Hermitian systems have attracted great attention in recent years. In this work, we establish an intrinsic connection between two classes of intriguing phenomena—topological phases and dynamical quantum phase transitions (DQPTs)—in non-Hermitian systems. Focusing on one-dimensional models with chiral symmetry, we find DQPTs following the quench from a trivial to a non-Hermitian topological phase. Moreover, the critical momenta and critical time of the DQPTs are found to be directly related to the topological invariants of the non-Hermitian system. We further demonstrate our theory in three prototypical non-Hermitian lattice models, the lossy Kitaev chain (LKC), the LKC with next-nearest-neighbor hoppings, and the nonreciprocal Su–Schrieffer–Heeger model. Finally, we suggest a proposal to experimentally verify the found connection by a nitrogen-vacancy center in diamond.
Dynamical quantum phase transitions (DQPTs), which refer to the criticality in time of a quantum many-body system, have attracted much theoretical and experimental research interest recently. Despite that DQPTs are defined and signaled by the nonanalyticities in the Loschmidt rate, its interrelation with various correlation measures such as the equilibrium order parameters of the system remains unclear. In this work, by considering the quench dynamics in an interacting topological model, we find that the equilibrium order parameters of the model in general exhibit signatures around the DQPT, in the short time regime. The first extrema of the equilibrium order parameters are connected to the first Loschmidt rate peak. By studying the unequal-time two-point correlation, we also find that the correlation between the nearest neighbors decays while that with neighbors further away builds up as time grows in the noninteracting case, and upon the addition of repulsive intracell interactions. On the other hand, the intercell interaction tends to suppress the two-site correlations. These findings could provide us insights into the characteristic of the system around DQPTs, and pave the way to a better understanding of the dynamics in nonequilibrium quantum many-body systems.
Dynamical quantum phase transitions hold a deep connection to the underlying equilibrium physics of the quench Hamiltonian. In a recent study [J. C. Halimeh et al., arXiv:1810.07187] it has been numerically demonstrated that the appearance of anomalous cusps in the Loschmidt return rate coincides with the presence of bound domain walls in the spectrum of the quench Hamiltonian. Here we consider transverse-field Ising chains with power-law and exponentially decaying interactions, and show that by removing domain-wall coupling via a truncated Jordan-Wigner transformation onto a Kitaev chain with long-range hopping and pairing, anomalous dynamical criticality is no longer present. This indicates that bound domain walls are necessary for anomalous cusps to appear in the Loschmidt return rate. We also calculate the dynamical phase diagram of the Kitaev chain with long-range hopping and pairing, which in the case of power-law couplings is shown to exhibit rich dynamical criticality including a doubly critical dynamical phase.
