Abstract

Cloud data security is a critical concern in the healthcare industry, particularly when it comes to protecting electronic health records (EHRs). To ensure that only authorized parties have access to sensitive patient information, it is necessary to employ secure key distribution, quantum key generation, and multi-user data encryption and decryption techniques. These techniques effectively prevent unauthorized access and insider attacks, thereby safeguarding EHRs stored in the cloud. The application of advanced cryptographic methods, such as AES and QKD, further enhances EHR security by providing protection against brute force attacks and other security threats. Prioritizing cloud data security is essential for maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality, which requires a combination of advanced encryption methods and robust key management practices. Quantum key distribution (QKD) enables secure sharing of secret keys between two parties over an insecure communication channel, ensuring that only authorized entities can access sensitive patient information. In this work, a novel Poly-Quantum key generation method is implemented to enhance the integrity of the secret key generation process. Chaotic Poly-Quantum keys are used to generate integrity values of variable sizes for multi-user encryption and decryption operations. Consequently, an advanced multi-user quantum integrity-based multi-access control encryption and decryption approach is developed for homogeneous and heterogeneous electronic health records, aiming to enhance cloud data security. Scalability Evaluation: To assess performance in large-scale healthcare environments, comprehensive scalability testing should be conducted. This will validate the framework’s efficiency and reliability under extensive workloads. The proposed Poly-Quantum-based security model marks a significant advancement in cloud-based healthcare data protection, laying a foundation for future quantum-enhanced cryptographic solutions. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed poly quantum key integrity-based multi-user encryption and decryption framework exhibits superior optimization compared to conventional approaches on both homogeneous and heterogeneous EHR databases.

Enhancing Healthcare Data Security Using Quantum Cryptography for Efficient and Robust Encryption

C. Bagath Basha

Healthcare requires data encryption to safeguard sensitive patient information from unauthorized access or breaches. Encryption ensures that data is encoded into a secure format, making it unreadable to anyone without the decryption key. This helps maintain patient privacy, protects against identity theft, and ensures compliance with data protection regulations like HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.). With encryption, healthcare organizations can mitigate the risk of data breaches and uphold trust with patients by ensuring the confidentiality and integrity of their medical records and personal information. Quantum cryptography emerges as a revolutionary solution, offering unparalleled encryption for healthcare data. This process initiates with the meticulous crafting of quantum states to encapsulate healthcare data securely, ensuring precise encoding. Subsequently, quantum entanglement is established between sender and receiver, creating a secure communication channel resistant to interception attempts. Quantum key distribution then generates a secure key leveraging entangled quantum states, becoming the cornerstone of encryption. Quantum encryption shields healthcare data in an impenetrable veil of secrecy, leveraging the complexities of quantum mechanics to thwart unauthorized decryption attempts. The decryption process, facilitated by the shared secure key, unveils the encrypted healthcare data exclusively to authorized parties, preserving confidentiality with unparalleled precision. The result reveals quantum cryptography's superiority in healthcare data encryption. At 150-bit key length, quantum cryptography takes 352,237 milliseconds vs. AES's 310,285 milliseconds. For a 14 KB input, quantum cryptography requires 7 milliseconds compared to AES's 12 milliseconds. These metrics highlight quantum cryptography's efficiency gains and transformative potential in healthcare data security, promising both enhanced security and efficiency benefits.
