Tunable switch between slow and fast light in optomechanics with a squeezed field

Abstract

Abstract We study the dynamics of a driven optomechanical cavity coupled to a charged nanomechanical resonator via Coulomb interaction with a squeezed field. We find that the tunable switch between slow and fast light for two signal modes can be observed from the output field by adjusting the laser-cavity detuning in this system. Moreover, the frequencies of two signal light can be tuned by Coulomb coupling strength, which are feasible using current laboratory techniques. The proposal may have potential application in optical router and quantum optomechanical memory.

A simple and tunable switch between slow- and fast-light in two signal modes with an optomechanical system

Abstract The control of slow and fast light propagation is a challenging task. Here, we theoretically study the dynamics of a driven optomechanical cavity coupled to a charged nanomechanical resonator (NR) via Coulomb interaction. We find that the tunable switch between slow- and fast-light for two signal modes can be observed from the output field by adjusting the laser-cavity detuning in this system. Moreover, the frequencies of two signal light can be tuned by Coulomb coupling strength. In comparison with previous schemes, the clear advantage of our scheme is that we can simply switch from fast- to slow-light in two signal modes by only adjusting the laser-cavity deturning from Δ = ω 1 to Δ = − ω 1 . The proposal may have potential application in optical router and quantum optomechanical memory.

Controllable Fast and Slow Light in the Hybrid Nanomechanical Resonator System

Hua‐Jun Chen

Abstract We propose a hybrid nanomechanical resonator (NR) system, where a NR coupled to an embedded quantum dot (QD) driven by two-tone fields is also coupled to another NR via the Coulomb interaction, and investigate the absorption spectra of the probe field under both the condition of resonance and off-resonance. The absorption spectra in resonance presents a means to determine the coupling strength of the two NRs. In the off-resonance, the absorption spectra can exhibit double Fano resonance, and the positions of the double Fano resonances are related to the interaction of the two NRs, the frequencies of the NRs, and the pump detuning. Furthermore, the double Fano resonances are accompanied by the rapid normal phase dispersion, which indicates the slow- and fast-light effect. We can obtain that the group velocity index is tunable by the interaction between the two NRs, the detuning, and the different resonator frequencies, which can reach the conversion from the fast light to slow light.

Efficient tunable switch from slow light to fast light in quantum opto-electromechanical system

Muhammad Javed Akram, Khalid Naseer, Farhan Saif

The control of slow and fast light propagation, in the probe transmission in a single experiment, is a challenging task. This type of control can only be achieved through highly nonlinear interactions and additional interfering pathway(s), which is therefore seldom reported. Here, we devise a scheme in which slow light, and a tunable switch from slow light to fast light can be achieved in the probe transmission based on a hybrid setup, which is composed of an optical cavity with two charged nano mechanical resonators (MRs). The two MRs are electrostatically coupled via tunable Coulomb coupling strength ($g_{c}$) making a quantum opto-electromechanical system (QOEMS). The parameter $g_{c}$ that couples the two MRs can be switched on and off by controlling the bias voltages on the MRs, and acts as a tunable switch that allows the propagation of transmitted probe field as slow light ($g_{c} \neq 0$) or fast light ($g_{c} = 0$). In our scheme, the magnitude of delay and pulse advancement can be controlled by tuning the Coulomb interaction and power of the pump field. Furthermore, we show that slow light regime in our model is astonishingly robust to the cavity decay rate. In comparison with previous schemes, our scheme has clear advantages that empowers the state-of-the-art photonic industry as well as reflects the strength of emerging hybrid technologies.

Controllable fast and slow light in the hybrid quantum dot–nanomechanical resonator system mediated by another nanomechanical resonator with Coulomb interaction

Hua‐Jun Chen

We theoretically propose a hybrid nanomechanical resonator (NR) system, where a doubly clamped suspended NR with an embedded quantum dot driven by two-tone fields is coupled to another NR via the Coulomb interaction, and we investigate the absorption spectra of the probe field under different exciton-pump field detuning. In the condition of pump on-resonance, the absorption spectrum gives a method to determine the coupling strength of the two NRs. In the pump off resonance, the absorption spectra exhibit double-Fano resonance, which is determined by the interaction of the two NRs, the frequencies of the two NRs, as well as the pump detuning. Furthermore, the double-Fano resonances are accompanied by the rapid normal phase dispersion, which indicates the slow- and fast-light effect. The results show that the group velocity index is tunable by the interaction of the two NRs, the detuning, and the different resonator frequencies, which can achieve the conversion from fast light to slow light.

Tunable fast and slow light in a hybrid optomechanical system

Muhammad Javed Akram, M. Miskeen Khan, Farhan Saif

We explain the probe field transmission spectrum under the influence of a strong pump field in a hybrid optomechanical system, composed of an optical cavity, a mechanical resonator, and a two-level atom. We show fast (superluminal) and slow (subluminal) light effects of the transmitted probe field in the hybrid system for suitable parametric regimes. For the experimental accessible domain, we find that the fast light effect obtained for the single optomechanical coupling can further be enhanced with the additional atom-field coupling in the hybrid system. Furthermore, we report the existence of a tunable switch from fast to slow light by adjusting the atomic detuning with the anti-Stokes and Stokes sidebands, respectively, as ${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Delta}}}_{a}=+{\ensuremath{\omega}}_{m}$ and $\ensuremath{-}{\ensuremath{\omega}}_{m}$. The reported characteristics are realizable in state-of-the-art laboratory experiments.

Microwave field controlled slow and fast light with a coupled system consisting of a nanomechanical resonator and a Cooper-pair box

Peng-Cheng Ma, Yin Xiao, Ya‐Fei Yu +1 more

We theoretically demonstrate an efficient method to control slow and fast light in microwave regime with a coupled system consisting of a nanomechanical resonator (NR) and a superconducting Cooper-pair box (CPB). Using the pump-probe technique, we find that both slow and fast light effects of the probe field can appear in this coupled system. Furthermore, we show that a tunable switch from slow light to fast light can be achieved by only adjusting the pump-CPB detuning from the NR frequency to zero. Our coupled system may have potential applications, for example, in optical communication, microwave photonics, and nonlinear optics.
