Abstract

Spin squeezing, a compelling manifestation of multiparticle entanglement, is considered one of the most promising quantum resources. Non-Markovian characteristics play a crucial role in many critical physical processes involving strong system-environment interactions. We investigate the generation of spin squeezing in a hybrid quantum system composed of silicon-vacancy color centers (SiV) and diamond acoustic waveguides in a finite-temperature non-Markovian environment. The results indicate that memory parameters, damping rates, environmental temperature, and the total spin number play critical roles in the generation of spin squeezing. By appropriately tuning these parameters, the spin-squeezing effect of the quantum system can be significantly enhanced. This study provides theoretical foundations and optimization strategies for the application of quantum systems in complex environments, such as quantum information processing and quantum precision measurement.

Heisenberg-limited spin squeezing in a hybrid system with silicon-vacancy centers

Zhen-Qiang Ren, Lu Xianliang, Ze-Liang Xiang

In this paper, we investigate the spin squeezing in a hybrid quantum system consisting of a Silicon-Vacancy (SiV) center ensemble coupled to a diamond acoustic waveguide via the strain interaction. Two sets of non-overlapping driving fields, each contains two time-dependent microwave fields, are applied to this hybrid system. By modulating these fields, the one-axis twist (OAT) interaction and two-axis two-spin (TATS) interaction can be independently realized. In the latter case the squeezing parameter scales to spin number as ξ R 2 ∼1.61 N −0.64 with the consideration of dissipation, which is very close to the Heisenberg limit. Furthermore, this hybrid system allows for the study of spin squeezing generated by the simultaneous presence of OAT and TATS interactions, which reveals sensitivity to the parity of the number of spins N tot , whether it is even or odd. Our scheme enriches the approach for generating Heisenberg-limited spin squeezing in spin-phonon hybrid systems and offers the possibility for future applications in quantum information processing.

Preparation of spin squeezed state in SiV centers coupled by diamond waveguide*

Yonghong Ma, Yuan Xu, Quanzhen Ding +1 more

Spin squeezing is a fascinating manifestation of many-particle entanglement and one of the most promising quantum resources. In this paper, we propose a novel realization of a solid-state quantum spin squeezing by applying SiV centers embedded in a diamond waveguide with the help of a microwave field. The phenomena about the generation of spin squeezing are analyzed numerically in Markovian environments. Our analysis shows that spin squeezing can be generated with the microwave field’s help under some realistic conditions, despite the presence of dephasing and mechanical damping. This solid-state spin squeezing based on SiV centers in diamonds might be applied to magnetometers, interferometry, and other precise measurements.

Quantum acoustics with diamond color centers

Srujan Meesala

Realization of physical systems for quantum information processing fundamentally rests on the ability to generate entanglement among many quantum bits. To this end, solid state quantum systems are often considered a scalable approach due to the relative ease of generating of a large number of individual qubits. However, realizing strong coherent interactions that dominate decoherence processes in the solid state environment is a formidable challenge that has continued to motivate the investigation of new physical systems to store quantum information and new mechanisms to achieve controllable interactions. This thesis takes steps in these directions with diamond color centers, which can store optically accessible quantum information in their electronic spin. We study color center spins as acoustic two level systems, and consider whether their interaction with single phonons in diamond can be engineered to be coherent. Through spectroscopy of color centers in diamond nanomechanical devices and follow-up theoretical work, we identify the negatively charged silicon vacancy (SiV) color center as a promising candidate for phonon-mediated quantum information processing. In the process, an electromechanical device platform capable of tuning the strain environment of color centers is developed. It is used to mitigate thermal decoherence of the SiV spin and demonstrate photon-mediated quantum interference between two SiV centers on a diamond chip, highlighting the utility of nanomechanical devices for photonic quantum networks. Finally, we present high quality factor, wavelength scale acoustic resonators in diamond using phononic crystals towards a coherent interface between SiV centers and single phonons.

Preparing Squeezed Spin States in a Spin–Mechanical Hybrid System with Silicon‐Vacancy Centers

Bo Li, Xiaoxiao Li, Pengbo Li +1 more

Abstract An experimentally feasible scheme for preparing the squeezed spin states in a novel spin–mechanical hybrid system is studied. The setup under consideration is realized by a single‐crystal diamond waveguide with negatively charged silicon‐vacancy (SiV) centers embedded. After studying the strain couplings between the SiV spins and the propagating phonon modes, analyses show that long‐range spin–spin interactions can be achieved under large detuning condition. Modeled as an effective one‐axis twisting Hamiltonian, these nonlinear spin–spin couplings can steer the system to the squeezed spin states in the practical situations. This proposal may have interesting applications in high‐precision metrology and quantum information processing.

Persistent spin squeezing of a dissipative one-axis twisting model embedded in a general thermal environment

Yonghong Ma, Quanzhen Ding, Ting Yu

We investigate spin squeezing for a one-axis twisting (OAT) model coupled to a general non-Markovian environment in a finite-temperature regime. Using the non-Markovian quantum state diffusion and master equation approach, we numerically study non-Markovian spin-squeezing generation in the OAT model. Our results show that the total spin number $N$, energy ${k}_{B}T$, and certain coefficients in the OAT model can play a crucial role in generating spin squeezing. In particular, it shows that the maximum spin squeezing can be significantly enhanced when the participating environment has a relatively long memory time.
