The Malus law in the quantum electrodynamics

Andrey Nikolaevich Volobuev

It is shown that the Malus law based on the principles of classical electrodynamics not completely takes into account all effects which can occur at passage of a linearly polarized light through the analyzer. On the basis of the quantum representations about the nature of light the form of Malus law which is taking into account transfer of a part of a photon impulse to particle on which occurs reradiation of light forward is found. Calculations are carried out within the framework of the perturbations theory with use of the Feynman diagram technics.

Features of Malus Law in the Region of X-Ray Radiation

Andrey Nikolaevich Volobuev, Eugene S. Petrov, Eugene L. Ovchinnikov

The light propagation through system a polarizer-analyzer is investigated on the basis of quantum conceptions about the nature of light. It is shown, that Malus law based on principles of classical electrodynamics not completely takes into account all effects which can occur at the light propagation through system a polarizer-analyzer. The phenomenon of possible change of frequency of light in particular drops out, for example in the region of X-ray radiation. The deduction of Malus law based on quantum principles is given. For comparison the differential effective section of interaction of a photon and electron with take into account of rotation of a plane of polarization of a photon in Compton’s effect is found.

GENERATION OF PHOTON BY THE EXCITED ATOM

The generation of a photon by an excited atom occurs in a fi nite time-dependent process of rearrangement of internal stress fi elds around an electron that changes its orbit. Radiation of light has close analogies with the generation of vortex structures in a continuous medium and is adequately refl ected in the framework of traditional, non-quantum mechanics. Power, energy characteristics of the electron transition between the terms of the atom in the regime of self-oscillations with the emission of a photon are considered. An analysis is made of the transformation of the initial angular momentum of the electron into the spin of the emitted photon with the formation of a new angular momentum due to the work of the nuclear fi eld. From the frequency and energy dependences, estimates of the geometric dimensions of the optical photon are obtained.

About the False Basis of the Many-Worlds Interpretation of Quantum Mechanics =

P V Putenikhin

It is shown that the many-worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics of Everett has in their justification the false logical construction.

SINGLE- AND TWO-PHOTON YOUNG'S EXPERIMENTS FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF FEYNMAN AMPLITUDES, GREEN FUNCTIONS AND PHOTON COORDINATE WAVE FUNCTIONS

П. P Zlydneva Tatiana +1 more

Young's single- and two-photon experiments are explained using 6-component quantum and 1-component "quasi-classical" photon wave functions in coordinate representation, which are modeled by various mechanisms ofphoton diffraction on holes or types of simultaneous emission of two photons by (two) independent sources. This explanation is compared with the well-known version of the explanation of the interference of a particle "with itself when it passes "through both holes at once" in Young's experiment using Feynman's postulated amplitudes. It is argued that these amplitudes cannot be wave functions, in the literal sense, describing some states of quantum particles. In all cases, under the assumption of linear polarization of photons, a pronounced interference pattern was obtained, allowing us to conclude that the coordinate wave function of the photon is capable of explaining the phenomena of single- and two-photon interference. In turn, this conclusion makes it possible to associate the coordinate wave function of the photon (and two photons in an entangled state), measured in some recent experiments, with the "quasi-classical" wave function of the photon (and two photons), although it does not take into account its (their) polarization properties.

Derivation of Malus' law by purely classical reasoning expressed in the language of group representation theory

G. Coddens

This work is part of a reconstruction of quantum mechanics from scratch with the aim to understand what it means. In previous work we have shown that the Dirac equation can be derived by classical reasoning just using relativity and group theory. This implies that contrary to common belief quantum mechanics (QM) is not magical or radically different from classical mechanics. It is also not incompatible with the theory of relativity but completely part of it. As the experimental violations of the Bell inequalities seem to take exception with this general scheme for making sense of QM we have scrutinized the derivation of the Bell inequalities to figure out the limitations of our approach. We were able to show that the derivation contains a logical error based on wrong modelling. In the present paper we complete this investigation by showing that Malus' law can be derived by classical reasoning using group representation theory, both for electrons and photons. This is a further, be it somewhat more indirect proof that the derivation of the Bell inequalities contains an error. But more importantly it shows that the philosophy of our approach remains intact, by proving that we can also understand Malus' law with our methods and thereby validating our approach also for this physical phenomenon.
