Quantum networks consist in remote quantum memories capable of storing, processing and measuring quantum information distributed by photons. Here we describe how we used rare-earth-ion doped crystals to realize fundamental building blocks of quantum networks.

Heralded Quantum Entanglement between two Rare-Earth-Ion Doped Crystals

Two rare-earth-ion doped crystals were entangled by converting a single photon into a delocalized excitation. The excitation was subsequently converted back into a photon and the entanglement revealed by an estimation of the concurrence.
