Abstract

Within this chapter, we embark on an exploration of quantum AI, an innovative domain where quantum computing and artificial intelligence (AI) converge to reshape our technological landscape. Our journey begins with an exploration of fundamental quantum computing concepts and quantum machine learning and their practical applications. We illustrate quantum AI’s influence across industries through case studies while also examining quantum hardware and software. Ethical considerations and the implications for cybersecurity are thoughtfully considered, and we offer a vision of quantum AI’s role in shaping our future. Our chapter closes with an invitation to embrace this fusion of quantum and artificial intelligence as we embark on a transformative journey.

Synergizing Quantum Computing and Machine Learning: A Pathway Toward Quantum-Enhanced Intelligence

Gustina Alfa Trisnapradika, Muhamad Akrom

The convergence of quantum computing and artificial intelligence has introduced a new paradigm in computational science known as Quantum Artificial Intelligence (QAI). By leveraging quantum mechanical principles such as superposition, entanglement, and quantum parallelism, QAI aims to overcome the limitations of classical machine learning, particularly in handling high-dimensional data, complex optimization, and scalability issues. This paper presents a comprehensive review of foundational concepts in both classical machine learning and quantum computing, followed by an in-depth discussion of emerging quantum algorithms tailored for AI applications, such as quantum neural networks, quantum support vector machines, and variational quantum classifiers. We explore the practical implications of these approaches across key sectors, including healthcare, finance, cybersecurity, and logistics. Furthermore, we identify critical challenges related to hardware limitations, algorithmic stability, data encoding, and ethical considerations. Finally, we outline research directions necessary to advance the field, highlighting the transformative potential of QAI in shaping the next generation of intelligent technologies

Integrating quantum computing with artificial intelligence

Balajee Maram, Nagendar Yamsani, B. Santhosh Kumar +3 more

Quantum computing and artificial intelligence (AI) individually create massive waves in the oceans of technological innovation; however, when these two revolutionary powerhouses are combined, they have the potential to transform industries on a global scale. Quantum computing and AI are merging to redefine high-fidelity decision-making, combining raw processing power (“ultra-compute”) with adaptive intelligence (“ultra-learn”). This synergy unlocks unprecedented capabilities for solving complex problems beyond classical computing's reach. This capability to leverage quantum algorithms enables AI systems to handle easily larger and more sophisticated datasets, executing calculations at unprecedented speeds in the history of science. This leads to new configurations for machine learning, optimization, big data analysis, and more. Integrating these two modern fields must provide a means to circumvent many classical computing constraints, addressing the most challenging issues in medicine, finance, and cybersecurity. In particular, these foundational concepts are vital for any discussions regarding the convergence of quantum computing and AI or similar applications. As we embark on a new technological era, overcoming known computational barriers through the combination of quantum computing and AI models will be essential to achieving those technological milestones that will define our future. After all, innovation driven by AI applied to technology ensures progress.
