Abstract

We consider an all-optical system consisting of two whispering-gallery-mode microring resonators and two adjacent optical waveguides. Pumping fields from different directions can simultaneously excite both clockwise and counterclockwise modes in the two resonators. When the propagation direction of the excited photons aligns with the propagation direction of the photons excited by two-photon driving, satisfying the phase-matching conditions, stable nonreciprocal quantum entanglement and one-way Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) steering can be effectively generated. This work demonstrates that quantum correlations can only be prepared when the system is driven by a pumping field from the unique port, a condition induced by the nonlinearity of the system. Furthermore, we show that the maximum values of quantum entanglement and one-way EPR steering can be achieved when the frequency detunings of the two optical modes are opposite, and higher two-photon driving strength and coupling strength significantly enhance quantum entanglement and one-way EPR steering. Our study provides a highly manipulable platform, offering promise for one-way quantum computing and quantum communication based on macroscopic entangled states.

Quantum squeezing-induced quantum entanglement and EPR steering in a coupled optomechanical system

Shao-xiong Wu, Cheng‐Hua Bai, Gang Li +2 more

We propose a theoretical project in which quantum squeezing induces quantum entanglement and Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen steering in a coupled whispering-gallery-mode optomechanical system. Through pumping the χ (2) -nonlinear resonator with the phase matching condition, the generated squeezed resonator mode and the mechanical mode of the optomechanical resonator can generate strong quantum entanglement and EPR steering, where the squeezing of the nonlinear resonator plays the vital role. The transitions from zero entanglement to strong entanglement and one-way steering to two-way steering can be realized by adjusting the system parameters appropriately. The photon-photon entanglement and steering between the two resonators can also be obtained by deducing the amplitude of the driving laser. Our project does not need an extraordinarily squeezed field, and it is convenient to manipulate and provides a novel and flexible avenue for diverse applications in quantum technology dependent on both optomechanical and photon-photon entanglement and steering.

Markovian-feedback-controlled entanglement and Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen steering in a nondegenerate optical parametric oscillator

Benyuan Zhou, Ni Pan, Li Yu +1 more

We propose a scheme to manipulate entanglement and the direction of asymmetric Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) steering between two interacting bosonic modes in a nonlinear optical apparatus, in which a pumped Fabry-P\'erot cavity system containing two nonlinear waveguides is coupled to two feedback loops. It is found that Markovian feedback plays a key role in controlling both entanglement and EPR steering, the maximal entanglement can only be achieved through two symmetric feedback loops, while one-way EPR steering can only occur when both asymmetric feedback loops and an unbalanced beam-splitter are satisfied simultaneously. Furthermore, in terms of an unequal beam-splitter and two different feedback loops, it is demonstrated that the directionality and extent of the asymmetric EPR steering can be readily controlled under certain conditions. A simple and sufficient condition is also revealed for generating two-way EPR steering. Moreover, the entanglement and EPR steering can be effectively enhanced by performing Markovian feedback. In addition, By choosing appropriate feedback strengths, two cavity modes can be driven into a pure two-mode squeezed vacuum state rather than a mixed two-mode Gaussian entangled state or a pure entangled dark state. We hope the proposed scheme will enhance our understanding of the fundamental asymmetry of EPR steering, and it may have potential applications in quantum computation and quantum communication.

Phase-selective tripartite entanglement and asymmetric Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen steering in squeezed optomechanics

Ya‐Feng Jiao, Jie Wang, Dong-Yang Wang +6 more

The generation and manipulation of multipartite entanglement and EPR steering in macroscopic systems not only play a fundamental role in exploring the nature of quantum mechanics, but are also at the core of current developments of various nascent quantum technologies. Here we report a theoretical method using squeezing-phase-controlled quantum noise flows to selectively generate and manipulate quantum entanglement and asymmetric EPR steering in a nonlinear $χ^{(2)}$ whispering-gallery-mode (WGM) optomechanical resonator. We show that by pumping the $χ^{(2)}$ nonlinear medium with two-photon optical fields and broadband squeezed lights, a pair of counterpropagating squeezed optical modes could be introduced to the WGM resonator, each coupled with an independent squeezed vacuum reservoir. This configuration could enable squeezing-phase-controlled light-reservoir interaction for each squeezed optical mode, providing a flexible tool for tailoring asymmetric optical noise flows in the counterpropagating modes. Based on this unique feature, it is found that with the injection of asymmetric noise flows, the generation of various types of bipartite and tripartite entanglement become phase-dependent and thus they can be produced in an asymmetric way. More excitingly, it is also found that by further properly adjusting the squeezing parameters, the overall asymmetry of EPR steering can also be stepwise driven from no-way regime, one-way regime to two-way regime. These findings, holding promise for preparing rich types of entangled quantum resources with asymmetric features, may have potential applications in the area of secure quantum information processing such as quantum secure direct communication and one-way quantum computing.

Manipulation and enhancement of Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen steering between two mechanical modes generated by two Bogoliubov dissipation pathways

Qi Guo, Mei‐Rong Wei, Cheng‐Hua Bai +3 more

We consider a three-mode optomechanical system in which two mechanical oscillators are independently coupled to a cavity mode driven by two controllable lasers. By controlling the two-tone driving, one can prepare the entanglement and Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) steering of two mechanical modes, in which the cavity mode acts as a single reservoir to cool two Bogoliubov modes. We find that the direction of EPR steering can be manipulated effectively by adjusting the damping rates and the thermal noises of two mechanical modes. In addition, we show that the entanglement and EPR steering between two mechanical modes can be enhanced by adding a parametric amplifier (PA) into the cavity. The effects of the strength and phase of the PA on the mechanical entanglement and EPR steering are analyzed and discussed in detail. Meanwhile, the additional PA can also expand the region of the one-way steering and strengthen the robustness of the entanglement and EPR steering against the thermal noise. The present scheme may provide effective resources for quantum information processing.

Entanglement and Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen steering between a nanomechanical resonator and a cavity coupled with two quantum dots

Yan Yan, Gao‐xiang Li, Qing-Lin Wu

We propose a scheme for generation of the stationary continuous-variable entanglement and Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) steering between an optical cavity mode and a nanomechanical resonator (NMR) mode. The cavity and the NMR are commonly coupled with two separated quantum dots (QDs), where the two QDs are driven simultaneously by a strong laser field. By adjusting the frequency of the strong laser field, the two QDs are nearly trapped on different dressed states, which is helpful to generate the entanglement between the cavity mode and the NMR mode. Due to the combined resonant interaction of the two QDs with the NMR-cavity subsystem, the photon and the phonon created and (or) annihilated are correlated. In this regime, the optimal entanglement of the two modes is obtained and the purity of the state of the NMR-cavity subsystem is near to 1. Furthermore, the coupling strength between the cavity and two QDs is different from the dot-NMR coupling strength, which leads to the different mean occupation numbers of the cavity and the NMR. In this case, one-way EPR steering is observed. In addition, through analyzing the purity, we find the conditions of the existence for the different types of EPR steering.

Controlling Remote Entanglement and One‐Way Steering Via a Squeezed Vacuum Field and an Optical Parametric Amplifier

Jing‐Nan Wei, Tie Wang, Shou Zhang +1 more

Abstract A scheme is proposed for generating remote entanglement and one‐way Einstein‐Podolsky‐Rosen (EPR) steering between two mechanical resonators in a cavity optomechanical system. Both mechanical resonators are coupled to a common cavity, which contains an optical parametric amplifier (OPA) and is driven by a squeezed vacuum field. The entanglement and EPR steering can be generated by the squeezed vacuum field and significantly enhanced by the gain of OPA. By manipulating the ratio of two effective optomechanical coupling strengths, the asymmetric EPR steering with excellent controllability on the direction, even the one‐way EPR steering can be achieved. Moreover, both the squeezed vacuum field and the OPA can effectively enhance the robustness of EPR steering against the environment temperature, and the temperature‐dependent one‐way EPR steering is explored. This work paves the way toward generating macroscopic mechanical entanglement and EPR steering with potential applications in quantum information processing.
