The rapid growth of the Internet of Things (IoT) is transforming industries such as healthcare, transportation, and smart infrastructure, but it also amplifies critical concerns regarding data security, privacy, and device authentication. Traditional cryptographic mechanisms offer partial protection, yet they remain vulnerable to emerging quantum computing threats, posing significant risks to IoT systems. Addressing these challenges, this paper introduces FLQC-IoT, a novel security framework that integrates federated learning (FL) with quantum computing (QC) to provide robust, scalable, and future-ready protection. Unlike conventional centralized approaches, FLQC-IoT enables decentralized model training directly on IoT devices, safeguarding sensitive data from exposure. Quantum technologies are incorporated at multiple layers: quantum neural networks accelerate optimization tasks, while quantum key distribution and quantum homomorphic encryption ensure tamper-proof key exchange and secure communication. Furthermore, the framework adapts dynamically to emerging threats through real-time anomaly detection and distributed intelligence, significantly enhancing resilience. Experimental results demonstrate a 15.32 % reduction in computational overhead and a 21.45 % decrease in authentication rounds compared to state-of-the-art methods, highlighting the framework’s efficiency and practical readiness. These findings underscore the significance and transformative impact of FLQC-IoT, providing a scalable, privacy-preserving, and resilient approach to securing IoT networks across critical domains, including healthcare, university campus networks, smart infrastructure, and transportation.
The convergence of Sixth-Generation (6G) wireless networks and the Internet of Things (IoT) demands unprecedented levels of performance, scalability, and security. Traditional architectures are increasingly inadequate in addressing the computational and security challenges posed by massive IoT connectivity, ultra-low latency, and high data throughput. This paper proposes a novel quantum-assisted architecture that integrates quantum computing and quantum communication principles to enhance the efficiency and security of 6G-enabled IoT systems. The framework leverages quantum key distribution (QKD), quantum machine learning (QML), and entanglement-assisted routing to provide end-to-end encryption, intelligent resource allocation, and resilient data transmission. Our simulation results and comparative analysis demonstrate significant improvements in network throughput, latency, and security resilience compared to classical 6G-IoT architectures. This research establishes a foundational step toward realising secure and intelligent next-generation wireless networks through the integration of quantum technology.
The rapid convergence of sixth-generation (6G) networks and the Internet of Things (IoT) offers enormous potential for ultra-reliable, low-latency, and massive device connectivity. However, this integration also raises security and privacy concerns, particularly in light of new threats from quantum computing that could undermine traditional cryptography. The architecture of quantum-safe IoT networks that can withstand post-quantum security threats is thoroughly discussed in this review. It addresses the challenges related to how to use blockchain technology to provide decentralized trust as well as secure transactions, how to use post-quantum cryptographic algorithms to protect data confidentiality, and the best way to use a trust management architecture to improve identity verification, authorization, and authentication in the diverse IoT environment. The paper then examines scalability considerations, resource constraints, and interoperability problems that impact safe IoT deployments in the 6G era. This work serves as a roadmap for researchers and practitioners who aim to create robust and future IoT infrastructure and then maintain their security in a post-quantum world by integrating recent research patterns, solution development, and considerations related to real-world implementation.
AI-native 6G networks are envisioned to tightly embed artificial intelligence (AI) into the wireless ecosystem, enabling real-time, personalized, and privacy-preserving intelligence at the edge. A foundational pillar of this vision is federated learning (FL), which allows distributed model training across devices without sharing raw data. However, implementing classical FL methods faces several bottlenecks in heterogeneous dynamic wireless networks, including limited device compute capacity, unreliable connectivity, intermittent communications, and vulnerability to model security and data privacy breaches. This article investigates the integration of quantum federated learning (QFL) into AI-native 6G networks, forming a transformative paradigm capable of overcoming these challenges. By leveraging quantum techniques across computing, communication, and cryptography within FL workflows, QFL offers new capabilities along three key dimensions: (i) edge intelligence, (ii) network optimization, and (iii) security and privacy, which are studied in this work. We further present a case study demonstrating that a QFL framework employing the quantum approximate optimization algorithm outperforms classical methods in model convergence. We conclude the paper by identifying practical challenges facing QFL deployment, such as quantum state fragility, incompatibility with classical protocols, and hardware constraints, and then outline key research directions toward its scalable real-world adoption.
Quantum computing is on the cusp of transforming the computational strength of “Intelligent Transportation Systems” (ITSs), but issues such as the scalability of qubits and error correction continue. With wireless networks shifting from 5G to 6G, technologies such as extended mobile broadband (eMBB), ultra-reliable low-latency communications (URLLC), and the Internet of Things (IoT) will transform global connectivity. Though 5G offers improved speeds, it is prone to threats based on quantum computing, making quantum-safe cryptographic solutions for 6G networks essential. This paper discusses the revolutionary capability of quantum machine learning (QML) to meet the changing needs of future wireless systems. Through the use of quantum algorithms for data processing, QML can improve network performance, real-time decision-making, and increase security with quantum-safe cryptography. This paper sets out the challenges and prospects for the integration of quantum technologies into the design and deployment of secure, efficient, and scalable 6G wireless communication systems.
