Abstract

Abstract Continuous variable multipartite entanglement is an important resource in quantum optics and quantum information. Non-degenerate optical parametric oscillator (NOPO), generally working in a resonant regime, can generate high quality tripartite entanglement. However, the detuning in a real experiment is inevitable and sometimes necessary, for instance, in an optomechanical system. We calculate the tripartite entanglement from a detuned triply quasi-resonant NOPO. Unlike the previous literature using inseparability criterion, we use the positivity of partial transpose, a sufficient and necessary criterion, to characterize the tripartite entanglement with full inseparability generated from a detuned NOPO. We also consider the influence of the pump and signal/idler losses on the tripartite entanglement. The results show that, the tripartite entanglement could exist even with a large detuning of several times cavity linewidth, and may be better for a detuned regime than for the resonant one under some conditions. With a fixed non-zero loss which always exists in a real experiment, an appropriate value of non-zero detuning could lead to the best entanglement. What’s more, unlike the bipartite entanglement, which exists both below and above threshold, the tripartite entanglement only occurs for a nonzero classical amplitude of signal/idler field. The jumping between the tripartite and bipartite entanglement could make the NOPO become a quantum state switch element, which promises a potential application on the multiparty quantum secret sharing.

Continuous-variable three-color tripartite entangled state generated by a non-degenerate optical parameter oscillator

Yan Zhi-Hui, Xiaojun Jia, Changde Xie +1 more

The quantum correlations between the output signal, the output idler and the reflected pump fields generated by non-degenerate optical parametric oscillator operating above the oscillation threshold are theoretically calculated with the semi-classical formulae. According to the multipartite entanglement criteria for the continuous variables, proposed by P. van Loock and A. Furusawa, the calculated results prove the existence of the quantum correlations between the amplitude and the phase quadrature for the three optical fields, i. e. they form a tripartite entangled state. We numerically calculate the dependence of the entanglement on the physical parameters of the optical oscillator and find the optimum operating conditions of the oscillator to produce the three-color tripartite entangled state, which provide the direct references for the design of the continuous variable multipartite entanglement generation systems.

Direct Production of Tripartite Pump-Signal-Idler Entanglement in the Above-Threshold Optical Parametric Oscillator

Alessandro S. Villar, M. Martinelli, Claude Fabre +1 more

We calculate the quantum correlations existing among the three output fields (pump, signal, and idler) of a triply resonant nondegenerate optical parametric oscillator operating above threshold. By applying the standard criteria [P. van Loock and A. Furusawa, Phys. Rev. A 67, 052315 (2003)], we show that strong tripartite continuous-variable entanglement is present in this well-known and simple system. Furthermore, since the entanglement is generated directly from a nonlinear process, the three entangled fields can have very different frequencies, opening the way for multicolored quantum information networks.

Entanglement and Photon Anti-Bunching in Coupled Non-Degenerate Parametric Oscillators

Yoshitaka Inui, Y. Yamamoto

We analytically and numerically show that the Hillery-Zubairy's entanglement criterion is satisfied both below and above the threshold of coupled non-degenerate optical parametric oscillators (NOPOs) with strong nonlinear gain saturation and dissipative linear coupling. We investigated two cases: for large pump mode dissipation, below-threshold entanglement is possible only when the parametric interaction has an enough detuning among the signal, idler, and pump photon modes. On the other hand, for a large dissipative coupling, below-threshold entanglement is possible even when there is no detuning in the parametric interaction. In both cases, a non-Gaussian state entanglement criterion is satisfied even at the threshold. Recent progress in nano-photonic devices might make it possible to experimentally demonstrate this phase transition in a coherent XY machine with quantum correlations.

Quantum analysis and experimental investigation of the nondegenerate optical parametric oscillator with unequally injected signal and idler

Ning Wang, Yongmin Li

We developed a quantum analysis of the nondegenerate optical parametric oscillator (NOPO) with unequally injected signal and idler. Both the steady-state output field and the two-mode quantum correlation spectrum are investigated under the condition of different injected idler-to-signal ratios (ISRs) and the relative phase between the pump and the injected seed. It is found that when the seed is injected through the output coupler, the NOPO allows for the robust generation of two-mode quantum entanglement even if the relative phase is free running and the ISR is as high as 0.7. At the specific relative phase of zero, a high degree of entanglement can exist across a whole range of ISRs. An experimental study of the NOPO with unequal seeds is presented, and the observed results verify the theoretical predictions.

Scalable continuous-variable entanglement of light beams produced by optical parametric oscillators

K. N. Cassemiro, Alessandro S. Villar

We show that scalable multipartite entanglement among light fields may be generated by optical parametric oscillators (OPOs). The tripartite entanglement existent among the three bright beams produced by a single OPO---pump, signal, and idler---is scalable to a system of many OPOs by pumping them in cascade with the same optical field. This latter serves as an entanglement distributor. The special case of two OPOs is studied, as it is shown that the resulting five bright beams share genuine multipartite entanglement. In addition, the structure of entanglement distribution among the fields can be manipulated to some degree by tuning the incident pump power. The scalability to many fields is straightforward, allowing an alternative implementation of a multipartite quantum information network with continuous variables.

Experimental generation of multipartite entanglement for continuous variables and its application in quantum communication

Kunchi Peng, Jietai Jing, Jing Zhang +2 more

Quantum entanglement shared by more than two partites is the essential bases for developing quantum communication networks and quantum computation. The multipartite entanglement of continuous variables can be generated by distributing or combining squeezed states of light using linear optics. We experimentally obtained a tripartite entangled state of bright optical field by means of a nondegenerate optical parametric amplifier (NOPA) and optical beam-splitters. The NOPA is operated in the state of parametric deamplification by locking the relative phase between the pump laser and the injected seed wave to (2n+1)π, so the generated Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) beam for continuous variables is an entangled state of light with the quantum correlation of phase quadratures and the quantum anticorrelation of amplitude quadratures [1]. The output EPR beam consists of two frequency-degenerate optical modes with horizontal and vertical polarizations which are distributed to three parties with two linear beam-splitters. We have theoretically and experimentally demonstrated the three parties are in a tripartite entangled state with three-mode “position” (amplitude quadrature) correlation and relative “momentum” (phase quadrature) correlation [2]-[4]. The obtained GHZ-like state is a fully inseparable tripartite continuous-variables state violating the three inequalities used for the criterion of the inseparability [5][6]. The controlled dense coding quantum communication is experimentally accomplished by exploiting the tripartite entanglement. The three entangled modes are sent to a sender (Alice), a receiver (Bob) and a controller (Claire), respectively. The information transmission capacity of the quantum channel between Alice and Bob is controlled by Claire. The channel capacity completed under Claire’s help is always larger than that without her help.
