Abstract

The entangled quantum radar applies the quantum information technology to the radar sensing network and detection system. The dynamic particle changes and optical attenuation caused by complex atmospheric environments will severely limit the traditional radar performance. Due to entanglement characteristics, the entangled optical quantum radar has better anti-stealth interference ability, stronger anti-turbulence properties, and higher spatial resolution which makes it promising in complex and high-attenuation environments. In addition, quantum radar based on the entangled light source can overcome the limitations of low imaging resolution and low confidentiality in traditional target detection. Therefore, high-precision positioning and high-resolution imaging are the research focus of the quantum radar sensing network. Based on this, we first design and optimize an optical path structure of the quantum entangled light source to obtain higher brightness entangled source which is suitable for complex atmospheric environments. Second, in response to the problem of low positioning accuracy in the traditional quantum radar, we design a new positioning optical path and propose a novel entangled optical quantum positioning method based on the photon scattering model. Third, to address the problems of low resolution and slow speed in traditional quantum radar imaging, we propose a new entangled light quantum imaging method based on two-phase coincidence counting. Finally, we conduct extensive experiments to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed method in complex atmospheric environments and further provide possibilities for the entangled light source quantum radar sensing network.

A High-Resolution and Low-Cost Entangled Photon Quantum Imaging Framework for Marine Turbulence Environment

Jingyang Cao, Wei Nie, Mu Zhou

Entangled photon quantum imaging technology has become very promising for marine imaging due to its high resolution, anti-turbulence, and anti-interference properties. The turbulence and optical attenuation caused by oceanic water would impose severe limitations on conventional imaging equipment. Quantum imaging based on entangled light sources could make it possible to overcome the constraints of low imaging resolution, large maritime environmental impact and low confidentiality in traditional underwater target imaging. Hence, the recent technological developments in terms of quantum imaging in free space motivate our investigation into high-resolution quantum imaging based on spatially correlated properties of entangled photon pairs in a marine environment. Moreover we propose and design an innovative underwater quantum imaging optical path for experimental verification. We conduct extensive experiments to assess the effectiveness of our proposed quantum imaging approach in marine environments. In order to solve the problem of the slow quantum imaging process, we propose an innovative compressive sensing reconstruction algorithm. Experiments show that the compressive sensing method could be utilized to reduce the imaging time. Finally, we propose an underwater quantum target identification method based on deep learning, further providing the possibility for underwater quantum target identification of entangled light sources.

Robust Optical Quantum Imaging Framework With Entangled Photons in Oceanic Turbulent Environments

Jingyang Cao, Mu Zhou, Ruichen Zhang +3 more

As an important part of underwater optical technology, underwater imaging plays a crucial role in accurately capturing underwater targets and environmental features. Facing the challenges of complex ocean environments and severe photon attenuation, quantum imaging breaks through the limitations of traditional optical imaging technology by utilizing the characteristics of two-photon entanglement and time-space correlation, thus offering a new perspective on ocean turbulence. To this end, we propose a new underwater entangled-photon quantum imaging system. Specifically, we first construct an entangled photon quantum imaging physical model through ocean long-exposure turbulence and then exploit an entangled light coincidence imaging reconstruction method to image the target object. Furthermore, in response to the problem that ocean environment has a great impact on photons, we develop a photon capture probability method based on entangled photon pairs to reduce the impact of the ocean turbulence noise on imaging and improve the underwater target imaging resolution. We experimentally demonstrate the effectiveness of our method by showing that even in harsh ocean environments, quantum imaging performs superior resolution capabilities over traditional light source imaging techniques.

Realization of quantum lidar imaging system

BI Si-wen, Hailong Zhu, Jingshi Du +5 more

As a combination of laser technology and modern photoelectric detection technology, lidar (laser radar) has notable advantages compared with traditional radar such as high resolution, strong anti-interference ability, and good low-altitude detection performance. However, with continuous application in aerospace, military, artificial intelligence and other fields, lidar has reached the limits of classical physics and can’t meet the requirements in detection, measurement and imaging. In order to break the bottleneck, worldwide researchers have developed a new type of radar-quantum lidar, which is based on the combination of traditional radar technology and quantum information technology. Its main principle is to get imaging through squeezed light that is below the noise limit of classical physics and then manipulated by the quantum state to achieve imaging with higher quality. Quantum lidar in the paper injects quantum squeezed light to receiver end and uses quantum phase-sensitive amplifier technology to compensate the photon loss that caused by insufficient quantum power to further improve resolution. In the squeezed light, the generation of quantum squeezed light and detection theory are studied, the resonant cavity locking principle and balanced homodyne detection principle are analyzed, and a mode cleaner with narrow line width is designed to improve beam transverse mode quality of laser and filter high frequency noise. In order to reduce quantum noise and improve resolution, quantum lidar imaging system is developed and the theoretically derivation and numerical simulation results show that the resolution of quantum lidar imaging is 1.71 times higher than that of lidar imaging.

Object Tracking and Identification by Quantum Radar

Kadir Durak, Naser Chamani Jam, Cagri Dindar

Quantum Radar is a promising technology that could have a strong impact on the civilian and military realms. In this study we introduce a new concept design for implementing a Quantum Radar, based on the time and polarization correlations of the entangled photons for detection and identification and tracking of high-speed targets. The design is focused on extracting high resolution details of the target with precision timing of entangled photons that provides important operational capabilities like distinguishing a target from a decoy. The quantum entanglement properties guarantee the legitimacy of the photons captured by the search telescope. Time correlations of the photon detection events can be extracted via cross-correlation operation between two sets of photon detection time-tags for the entangled photons. The fact that the wavelengths of the entangled photons can be tuned also makes the Quantum Radar concept an enticing candidate for tracking stealth objects. We present the proof-of-principle test results of the Quantum Radar and discuss the technical challenges and limitations of the design.
