A Resource-Efficient Quantum Key Distribution Protocol With Multi-User Access And Eavesdropping Detection For Quantum Networks

S.P. Sasirekha N.Saranya

In quantum networks, Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) and the related protocols are distributive to ensure security for end users. Also, attack detection, analyzing security vulnerabilities and performance reduction over high traffic are more challenging which is encountered at multi-user communication end. Existing approaches does not effectually overcome the above given challenges. This research proposed a novel approaches that merges conventional quantum multiple access approaches, QKD and improved security protocols for dealing these issues. Here, a novel Resource-Efficient Quantum Key Distribution (RE-QKD) for establishing communication security among diverse nodes and adopts the conventional quantum multiple accesses. It intends to offer higher speed and scalability during the communication process. Then, security is optimized with RE-QKD that relies on Quantum Access Network to optimize the queries from various end-users. The proposed RE-QKD is proposed to provide security towards the computing attacks and preventing the eavesdropping attack. The proposed model work efficiently and gives promising outcomes with its performance metrics. The proposed RE-QKD model attains 95% detection attack, 97% communication complexity, distributive key rate of 600b/s, 99% computational overhead and 97% communication efficiency. The simulation outcomes shows the reduction in communication complexity up-to 45% and improved detection accuracy which is superior compared to prevailing approaches. The proposed model helps in scalable development and quantum network with better security.

Optical Link Design for Quantum Key Distribution-Integrated Optical Access Networks

Sunghyun Bae, Seok-Tae Koh

To achieve commercial scalability, fiber-based quantum key distribution (QKD) systems must be integrated into existing optical communication infrastructures, rather than deployed exclusively on dedicated dark fibers. Integrating QKD into optical access networks (OANs) would be particularly advantageous, as these networks provide direct connectivity to end users for whom security is critical. Such integration can address the inherent security vulnerabilities in current OANs, which are primarily based on time-division multiplexing passive optical networks (TDM-PONs). However, integrating QKD into PONs poses significant challenges due to Raman noise and other detrimental effects induced by PON signals, which intensify as the launched power of PONs increases to support higher transmission speeds. In this study, we review recent advancements in both QKD and access network technologies, evaluate the technical feasibility of QKD-OAN integration, and propose cost-effective strategies to facilitate the widespread deployment of QKD in future access networks.

Multi-node quantum key distribution network using existing underground optical fibre infrastructure

Mariella Minder, Andreas Siakolas, Stephanos Yerolatsitis +2 more

Quantum key distribution (QKD) offers unconditional information security by allowing two distant users to establish a common encryption key resilient to hacking. Resultingly, QKD networks interconnecting critical infrastructure and enabling the secure exchange of classified information, can provide a solution to the increasing number of successful cyberattacks. To efficiently deploy quantum networks, the technology must be integrated over existing communication infrastructure, such as optical fibre links. Yet, QKD poses stringent requirements on the conditions of the network over which it is deployed. This work demonstrates the first quantum communication network in Cyprus via the deployment of a multi-node quantum network, exploiting existing commercial underground optical fibre. The network employs bidirectional occupation of fibres and wavelength multiplexing in a ring architecture to achieve, with minimal use of dark fibres, high-rate QKD. Results obtained reveal consistent key generation rates across all nodes, confirming reliable operation in a real-world environment. This deployment highlights the feasibility of leveraging existing telecom infrastructure for quantum-secured communication, marking a significant step toward scalable and cost-effective quantum networks suited for critical applications.
