Coherent control of two Jaynes–Cummings cavities

Abstract

We uncover new features on the study of a two-level atom interacting with one of two cavities in a coherent superposition. The James-Cummings model is used to describe the atom-field interaction and to study the effects of quantum indefiniteness on such an interaction. We show that coherent control of the two cavities in an undefined manner allows novel possibilities to manipulate the atomic dynamics on demand which are not achievable in the conventional way. In addition, it is shown that the coherent control of the atom creates highly entangled states of the cavity fields taking a Bell-like or Schrödinger-cat-like state form. Our results are a step forward to understand and harness quantum systems in a coherent control, and open a new research avenue in the study of atom-field interaction exploiting quantum indefiniteness.

Collapse and revival of “Schrödinger cat” states

C. E. A. Jarvis, Denzil A. Rodrigues, Balazs L. Gyorffy +3 more

We study the dynamics of the Jaynes–Cummings model for two two-level systems (or qubits) interacting with a quantized single mode electromagnetic cavity (or quantum bus), extending this to the macroscopic case of an array of Nq qubits. For an initial cavity coherent state |α⟩ and the qubit system in a specified “basin of attraction” in its Hilbert space, we demonstrate the oscillation of a superposition of two macroscopic quantum states between the qubit system and the field mode. From the perspective of either the qubit or the field system, there is collapse and revival of a “Schrödinger cat” state.

Coherence and catalysis in the Jaynes–Cummings model

Anette Messinger, Atirach Ritboon, Frances Crimin +2 more

Abstract There has been substantial interest of late on the issue of coherence as a resource in quantum thermodynamics. To date, however, analyses have focused on somewhat artificial theoretical models. We seek to bring these ideas closer to experimental investigation by examining the ‘catalytic’ nature of quantum optical coherence. Here the interaction of a coherent state cavity field with a sequence of two-level atoms is considered, a state ubiquitous in quantum optics as a model of a stable, classical source of light. The Jaynes–Cummings interaction Hamiltonian is used, so that an exact solution for the dynamics can be formed, and the evolution of the atomic and cavity states with each atom-field interaction analysed. In this way, the degradation of the coherent state is examined as coherence is transferred to the sequence of atoms. The associated degradation of the coherence in the cavity mode is significant in the context of the use of coherence as a thermodynamic resource.

Jaynes-Cummings model with a collective atomic mode

Shi‐Biao Zheng

We study the dynamics of a single control atom and an atomic sample interacting with a nonresonant cavity mode. The control atom is driven by an auxiliary classical field. Under certain conditions, the coherent energy exchange between the control atom and the atomic sample induced by the cavity mode is described by the Jaynes-Cummings model. The idea provides a possibility for quantum-state engineering and reconstruction for collective atomic modes.

Quantum properties of the entangled coherent light field under the anti-Jaynes-Cummings model

Zhang Ying-Jie, Yun‐Jie Xia, Ren Ting-Qi +3 more

A two-level atom drvien by a strong classical field interacts with a single-mode light field, and the interaction between the atom and the light field can turn into an effective anti-Jaynes-Cummings model under the conditions of strong driving and large detuning. In this paper, we mainly study the two-mode entangled coherent light field in this model, in which one mode of the entangled coherent light field interacts with a two-level atom driven by a strong classical field. During the evolution of the total system, we make a selective measurement on the atom. Through tuning the evolution time and the parameter of the coherent field, we can easily control the quantum statistical properties of the other mode of the entangled light fields and generate the expected non-classical light field in a longer interaction time and a wider region of coherent parameter.

Collapse and Revival of `Schrödinger Cat' States

We study the dynamics of the Jaynes-Cummings Model for an array of $N_q$ two level systems (or qubits) interacting with a quantized single mode electromagnetic cavity (or quantum bus). For an initial cavity coherent state $| α>$ and the qubit system in a specified `basin of attraction' in its Hilbert space, we demonstrate the oscillation of a superposition of two macroscopic quantum states between the qubit system and the field mode. From the perspective of either the qubit or the field system, there is collapse and revival of a `Schrödinger Cat' state.
