Uniting Quantum Computing and Artificial Intelligence: Exploring New Frontiers

Muniraju Hullurappa

Two powerful technologies, quantum computing and artificial intelligence (AI), can potentially disrupt sectors and solve some of society’s greatest problems in practically every industry. A study on how quantum computing and AI can work together. We seek to provide a comprehensive literature review encompassing key contributions and problems from both domains. The AI mission’s unique quantum computing strategy and how quantum algorithms can be used to slave for machine learning models and high-speed, sophisticated, accepted handling are explained. Quantum Computing has been shown to improve AI performance, efficiency, turnaround time, and problem-solving capacities. The research continues by considering what this means for quantum computing in AI, where transformational potential may exist, and where AI work currently limits quantum computing’s use. We also explore future research paths, emphasizing the need for interdisciplinary collaboration to properly utilize those technologies and overcome obstacles. This study should be a foundation for future research and discovery at the interface of quantum computing and AI, leading to ground-breaking applications and results.

Towards an Ecosystem Approach to Quantum Computing Ethics: Implications for the Global Majority

Shamira Ahmed

Quantum Computing (QC) represents a class of technologies that harness fundamental principles of quantum mechanics, particularly superposition and entanglement, to process, transmit, and secure information in ways unattainable by classical systems [1]. Positioned at the core of Quantum Information and Communication Technologies (QICT) [2], QC is central to the ongoing Second Quantum Revolution, driving innovation infrastructures and redefining capabilities in computation, networking, and secure information exchange at fundamental levels [3]. Unlike the first quantum revolution, which focused on physics and laboratory experiments, today's Quantum technology (QT) applications are inherently digital, dependent on and deeply integrated within the digital stack, relying on cloud platforms, high-performance computing, advanced telecommunications, and potentially converging with other emerging digital technologies (EDT) such as artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, big data, the Internet of Things (IoT) [4], [5], offering new paradigms for the digital economy and society [6]. While there remains considerable uncertainty regarding their practical, scalable applications, the disruptive potential of QC is increasingly recognized [7] with profound ethical, legal, social, and policy implications [8] and a need for practical approaches to their governance [9]. QC is not a standalone technology, but operates as a complex innovation ecosystem where research, policy, markets, and ethics co-evolve [10].

Role of Quantum Computing in the Era of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Ushaa Eswaran, Alex Khang, Vishal Eswaran

Quantum computing introduces revolutionary techniques for information processing by harnessing uniquely quantum phenomena. The emergence of quantum processors, algorithms, and software tools has brought this disruptive technology closer to practical applications. One of the most promising domains where quantum techniques can provide advantages is augmenting artificial intelligence. This chapter provides a comprehensive analysis of the fundamentals underpinning quantum computation, surveys the current hardware landscape, summarizes key quantum algorithms, and highlights promising applications in optimization, sampling, simulation, and machine learning. Engineering challenges in scaling up quantum systems are discussed along with progress in quantum error correction. Projections forecast steady advances towards quantum-enhanced AI based on a timeline of milestones. Realizing these synergies through collaborative interdisciplinary efforts promises to transform computing and catalyse innovations across industries to benefit science and society.
