Abstract

The transfer of information from one single device to another has been more secure in recent years through to the development of quantum communication technology (QCT) in a variety of technological uses. Preparing for this new, emerging sector is important since information communication technology (ICT) in the future will certainly depend on QCT, which is built on quantum physics laws to secure the transfer of information. Future quantum technology will not only optimize computers and the internet but also change the way we communicate. This study discusses the importance and impact of QCT in the context of national security, framework, and policy. Furthermore, this paper also discusses the latest research trends of QCT in several countries including the United States, Canada, and China that Malaysia can learn from. In addition to that, this paper traces the development of QCT policy in other countries along with the existing development of security policy and framework in Malaysia. Finally, this paper discusses the importance of QCT with recommendations.

AWARENESS AND READINESS ON QUANTUM COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY AMONG THE REGULATORS, INDUSTRY PLAYERS AND ACADEMICIANS IN MALAYSIA

Nur Sabrina Shahrul, Mustafa Mohd Hanefah, Rosnia Binti Masruki +2 more

The Quantum Communication Technology (QCT) industry is growing aggressively at the global level, but the implementation of this technology is not yet clear in Malaysia. This qualitative study reviews the awareness and readiness among regulators, industry players and an academia on development of QCT in Malaysia. This study conducted a focus group discussion involving twelve experts representing regulators, industry players and academicians who have extensive background and knowledge in cybersecurity. This study found that most of the respondents have basic understanding on the QCT and they are also aware on the and QCT development. In this study, respondents demonstrated varying levels of awareness of Quantum Communication Technology (QCT), with 8 out of 12 having prior knowledge. The study emphasizes the need for enhanced education and promotion in Malaysia to foster QCT adoption across sectors. Themes further explore the challenges of QCT implementation, particularly the high cost and evolving cybersecurity landscape. Recommendations include government involvement, cost-benefit analyses, continuous cybersecurity improvement, and top-down support to ensure successful QCT integration, especially in the telecommunications sector, where the high-cost poses challenges. The study underscores the significance of education, government collaboration, and financial support for effective QCT implementation in Malaysia

A Theoretical Framework of Quantum Communication Technology Acceptance: An Application Technology Readiness and Acceptance Model

MUKRIM NURUL HAYATI KHAIRULAMRI, Nor Asiah Yaakub, Mustafa Mohd Hanefah +2 more

Quantum Communication Technology (QCT) presents a transformative approach to communication and data security by leveraging quantum mechanics. While countries such as the United States, China, and the European Union are advancing rapidly in this field, Malaysia remains in the early stages of development. However, its acceptance in Malaysia remains underexplored. This study employs the Technology Readiness and Acceptance Model (TRAM) model to examine key factors influencing QCT acceptance, including optimism, innovativeness, discomfort, insecurity, perceived usefulness, and perceived ease of use. Understanding readiness is crucial since it determines the acceptance of QCT. This study will contribute to ongoing discussions on QCT by fostering research initiatives and promoting technological advancements in Malaysia. The proposed framework from this study could be served as guideline in implementing QCT in Malaysia. This study provides input to the government and stakeholders such as industries in formulating strategies to implement QCT. This study also contributes to the body of knowledge in QCT field.

Quantum technology and cryptology for information security

Syed Muhammad Aziz Ali Naqvi, Michel Riguidel

Cryptology and information security are set to play a more prominent role in the near future. In this regard, quantum communication and cryptography offer new opportunities to tackle ICT security. Quantum Information Processing and Communication (QIPC) is a scientific field where new conceptual foundations and techniques are being developed. They promise to play an important role in the future of information Security. It is therefore essential to have a cross-fertilizing development between quantum technology and cryptology in order to address the security challenges of the emerging quantum era. In this article, we discuss the impact of quantum technology on the current as well as future crypto-techniques. We then analyse the assumptions on which quantum computers may operate. Then we present our vision for the distribution of security attributes using a novel form of trust based on Heisenberg's uncertainty; and, building highly secure quantum networks based on the clear transmission of single photons and/or bundles of photons able to withstand unauthorized reading as a result of secure protocols based on the observations of quantum mechanics. We argue how quantum cryptographic systems need to be developed that can take advantage of the laws of physics to provide long-term security based on solid assumptions. This requires a structured integration effort to deploy quantum technologies within the existing security infrastructure. Finally, we conclude that classical cryptographic techniques need to be redesigned and upgraded in view of the growing threat of cryptanalytic attacks posed by quantum information processing devices leading to the development of post-quantum cryptography.

Exploration of the Practical Development of Quantum Communication

Hongtao Yang, Weijian Zhao, Shu Fu

With the development of technology, quantum technology with enormous military value has become a key technology related to national information security in the application and development of communication systems. The application of quantum communication technology in military and civilian research is of great significance for China’s future information network construction, as well as the safety of people’s lives and property. One need to increase investment in technology, increase investment in technology, and establish a sound policy system and institutional mechanisms. Only by increasing the promotion of this project can one further promote the development of military civilian integration of quantum communication technology in China and gradually establish a strong quantum communication information network. This article introduced the principles and development of quantum communication, and verified through simulation experiments that quantum technology communication has a lower bit error rate and better performance compared to traditional communication systems.

A Review of Quantum Communication Technology Research

Xiaogang Du, Jigui Mao, Dexin Zhu

Quantum communication as a vital branch of quantum information science, leverages physical properties such as quantum superposition, entanglement, and the impossibility of cloning to pioneer entirely new technical pathways for achieving unconditional secure communication. This paper comprehensively and meticulously elucidates the core technological principles of quantum communication, including quantum key distribution, quantum teleportation, and quantum secure direct communication; It also delves into its application status in critical domains such as dedicated communications, finance, and government affairs. Furthermore, it analyzes the numerous technical challenges currently faced, including the stability of quantum bits, limitations on communication distance, and difficulties in standardization. Finally, it offers a prospective outlook on its future development trends. Research indicates that quantum communication technology is progressively transitioning from the laboratory to large-scale application stages, with its integration into existing communication systems and strategic value in national security domains becoming increasingly prominent.
