Abstract

The possibility of using incoherent photon echo in spectroscopy of optically dense impurity media is considered. A theoretical approach to description of this phenomenon is presented. The experimental data on incoherent photon echo in ruby at liquid-helium temperature, with transport of an excitation pulse through a fiber, are reported. The spectral dependence of the echo intensity is studied. The decay curve for an incoherent echo signal is investigated, and the phase relaxation time is found to be 98 ns.

This paper is about the possibilities of optically dense impurity media spectroscopy by means of the incoherent photon echo. The theoretical model of the phenomenon is given. The results of experiment on incoherent photon echo in a crystal of ruby at liquid helium temperature are presented. Fiber optical delay line was used to make an incoherence of the excitation radiation. The dependence of the incoherent echo intensity on the excitation wavelength was studied. The echo decay curve was obtained and the phase relaxation time was found to be equal to 98 ns.

Incoherent backward photon echo in ruby upon excitation through an optical fiber

В. В. Самарцев, Шегеда Анатолий Михайлович, A. V. Shkalikov +3 more

The results of an experimental investigation of the incoherent photon echo in ruby (with Cr3+ concentration equal to 0.16 wt%) at T=1.7 K are presented. Optical fiber with length 3 m and diameter 100 μm was used for delivery of the first exciting pulse to a sample. The dependence of the IPE intensity on the excitation wavelength within the width of R1 absorption line was studied. The IPE decay curve was obtained and the phase relaxation time was found to be equal to 98 ns.

Intense incoherent light and photon echoes

Lindsey Van Wagenen

One of the long-standing difficulties in working with intense incoherent light has been the lack of a theory for predicting and explaining experimental results. The diagrammatic theory of Friedberg and Hartmann provides a solution to this problem by allowing one to study the interaction of intense incoherent light and matter with no restrictions on the intensity of the pulses. In the present investigation, two-pulse photon-echo experiments were performed with intense incoherent light in atomic sodium vapor and the results were compared with predictions calculated from the Friedberg-Hartmann diagrammatic theory. The dependence of the echo signal on the intensity of the constituent excitation pulses was studied. The results of this investigation indicate that the two-pulse incoherent photon-echo experimental data are consistent with the calculations obtained from the theory presented in the diagrammatic paper of Friedberg and Hartmann when the atomic relaxation times are included. The two-pulse-echo data show good agreement with the theoretical predictions for the case in which 4T2 = T1 (the atomic and transverse lifetimes, respectively), which represents more of a decay than has been theoretically predicted for the experimental parameters used.

Angular echo spectroscopy of optically dense media

Olga M. Fedotova, Oleg Kh Khasanov, T. V. Smirnova

The peculiarities of the photon echo excitation by two non- collinear pulses in optically dense media with extreme inhomogeneous broadening are investigated theoretically and numerically. Non-linear pulse evolution during propagation is taken into account. Red frequency shift of the primary photon echo signal is predicted. The influence of pulse transformation on the echo time delay is analyzed.

The primary photon echo signal excited by two non-collinear pulses in optically dense media with extreme inhomogeneous broadening is investigated theoretically and numerically. Non-linear evolution of both echo exciting pulses and echo response during propagation is taken into account. Red frequency shift of the primary photon echo is predicted. The influence of pulse transformation on the echo time delay is analyzed.

Ultrafast optical dephasing in experiments on femtosecond and incoherent photon echo: numerical modeling

V. V. Fedyanin, Каримуллин Камиль Равкатович

Abstract In this paper we develop an approach based on the dynamic theory of optical coherent transients in solids that allows one to describe the processes of ultrafast optical dephasing observed in photon echo spectroscopy in disordered solid-state media. The approach was tested by modeling non-exponential decay curves measured in experiments on femtosecond and incoherent photon echo.
