Abstract

We investigate quantum phases of the Bose-Bose mixtures in a two dimensional (2D) square lattice under artificial magnetic flux. Our analysis employs the inhomogeneous Dynamical Gutzwiller Mean-Field Theory (DGMFT) to investigate ground state within the two-component Bose-Hubbard model. The results based on various inter-component interactions and magnetic flux. In the case of weak inter-component interaction (wherein the inter-component interactions remain subordinate to intra-component interactions, symbolically expressed as |Uab|≤U), we observe a multitude of captivating quantum phases within the Bose-Bose mixtures. These include the emergence of the jagged density-wave supersolid(SS) phase, the latticed-like density-wave SS phase, and counterflow superfluid (CFSF) phase. Notably, the introduction of artificial magnetic flux expands the range of existence for CFSF phase. In the case of strong inter-component interaction(wherein the inter-component interactions surpass intra-component interactions, symbolically expressed as Uab>U), we delve deeper into the classification of the spatially separated phase, aptly termed the phase separated supersolid (P-SS).

Quantum phases of two-component bosons in a non-Hermitian optical lattice system

Xiaoru Zhang, Shi-Jie Yang

In this paper, we investigate the quantum phases of two-component bosons in a non-Hermitian optical lattice system featuring a nonreciprocal hopping phase factor. Our analysis focuses on the Bose–Hubbard model in a two-dimensional (2D) square lattice, utilizing the inhomogeneous dynamical Gutzwiller mean-field theory (DGMFT) to examine the ground state. The impact on quantum phases of the inter component interaction varies in the weak-interaction (the inter-component interactions are smaller than intra-component interactions, i.e., [Formula: see text]) and in the strong-interaction (the inter-component interactions are bigger than intra-component interactions, i.e., [Formula: see text]) regime. In the weak regime, we observe a diverse range of quantum phases, including vortex-like liquid, MI islands (the Mott insulator (MI) islands periodically distributed in the superfluid (SF) background) and SF islands (the SF islands periodically distributed in the MI background), and the inter-component counterflow superfluid (CFSF) phases. In the strong regime, we observe phase separation of the two-component bosons.

Quantum phases for bosons in a square lattice with artificial magnetic flux

Ya-Fei Song, Shi-Jie Yang

Abstract Ground-state phases of the ultracold bosons in 2D optical lattices subject to artificial magnetic flux are studied by the inhomogeneous Gutzwiller variational method. Results show that the density of a vortex increases linearly with the magnetic flux per plaquette. For a smaller magnetic flux, no supersolid (SS) states are present. The superfluid (SF) states are vortex liquids of either particle-type or hole-type, depending on whether the average filling is greater or less than the integer number. For a larger magnetic flux, regular density-wave states, which also exhibit superfluidity of either particle-type or hole-type, appear at the boundary between the Mott insulator and the SF. Moreover, the uniform SF phases differ to the conventional SF by carrying convection super-current and coreless vorticity. The convection super-current or vorticity in the SS phases assemble in pairs or stripes, as well as checkerboards, according to the flux strength per unit cell.

Supersolidity of cold-atom Bose-Fermi mixtures in optical lattices

Peter P. Orth, Doron L. Bergman, Karyn Le Hur

We investigate a cold-atom mixture of spinless bosons and fermions in two-dimensional optical lattices. In the presence of a nested Fermi surface, the bosons may develop a fascinating supersolid behavior characterized by a finite superfluid density as well as a spatial density wave order. Focusing on the triangular lattice geometry and combining a general Landau-Ginzburg-Wilson approach with microscopically derived mean-field theory, we find an exotic supersolid phase at a fermionic band filling of ${n}_{f}=3∕4$ with a kagome-type crystalline order. We also address the case of anisotropic hopping amplitudes and show that striped supersolid phases emerge on the square and triangular lattices. For weak interactions, the supersolid competes with phase separation. For strong intraspecies and interspecies interactions, with the total number of fermions and bosons corresponding to one particle per site, the bosons form an alternating Mott insulator ground state. Finally, for a mixture of $^{87}\mathrm{Rb}^{40}\mathrm{K}$ and $^{23}\mathrm{Na}^{6}\mathrm{Li}$, we show that supersolidity can be observed in the range of accessible temperatures in the square lattice geometry.

Bose-Bose mixtures in an optical lattice: First-order superfluid-insulator transition and elementary excitations

Takeshi Ozaki, Ippei Danshita, Tetsuro Nikuni

We study ground-state phase diagrams and excitation spectra of Bose-Bose mixtures in an optical lattice by applying the Gutzwiller approximation to the two-component Bose-Hubbard model. A case of equal hoppings and equal intra-component interactions for both components is considered. Due to the existence of inter-component interaction, there appear several quantum phases, such as the superfluid, paired superfluid, and counterflow superfluid phases. We find that the transition from superfluid (SF) to Mott insulator (MI) with even filling factors can be of the first order for a wide range of the chemical potential. We calculate the excitation spectra as a useful probe to identify the quantum phases and the SF-to-MI transitions. In the excitation spectra of the SF phase, there are two gapless modes and a few gapful modes, which respectively correspond to phase and amplitude fluctuations of the order parameters. At the SF-to-MI transition point, we show that the energy gaps of certain amplitude modes reach zero for the second-order transition while they remain finite for the first-order one. Since the excitation spectrum can be measured by the Bragg scattering, we calculate the dynamical structure factor by using the linear response theory. We consider three types of density fluctuations, and show that the density fluctuations are coupled to different excitation branches in different quantum phases.

Magnetic supersolid phases of two-dimensional extended Bose–Hubbard model with spin–orbit coupling

Dong-Dong Pu, Ji-Guo wang, Ya-Fei Song +1 more

Abstract We investigate the quantum phases and phase transitions for spin–orbit coupled two-species bosons with nearest-neighbor (NN) interaction in a two-dimensional square lattice using inhomogeneous dynamical Guztwiller mean-field method. Under the effect of spin–orbit coupling and NN interaction, we uncover a rich variety of different magnetic supersolid (SS) phases. In the presence of intraspecies NN interaction, the phase diagram exhibits the phase-twisted double-checkerboard SS (PT-DCSS) and phase-striped double-checkerboard SS (PS-DCSS) phases. For both intra- and interspecies NN interactions, apart from the phase-twisted lattice SS (PT-LSS) and phase-striped lattice SS (PS-LSS) phases, some nontrivial SS phases with interesting properties occur. More importantly, we find that the emergences of these nontrivial SS phases are dependent of the interspecies on-site interaction. To further characterize the SS phases, we also discuss the spin-dependent momentum distributions and magnetic textures. The magnetic textures, such as antiferromagnetic, spiral and stripe orders are shown. Finally, we give the fully analytical insights into the numerical results.

Two-component bosonic mixtures on the three-dimensional cubic lattice

Dian-Cheng Zhang, Shi-Jie Yang

Abstract We investigate the extended Bose–Hubbard model of two bosonic components, on a cubic lattice. Utilizing the dynamical Gutzwiller mean-field theory, we discover the counterflow supersolid state, characterized by the modulated checkerboard order, critically coexisting with a characteristic of the counterflow superfluid. The standard supersolid state of checkerboard order is further identified. And it could be governed by the phase-separation, via an adjustment of the inter-component interaction. Finally, we also chart out the relevant phase diagram.
