A Quantum Cost Efficient Reversible Multiplexer for Low Power Applications

Patthi Aruna, Gurumurthy Komanapalli

Low power architectures are more pronounced for different applications that extend from Internet of Things to Quantum computing. Primitive combinational logic circuits induce from bit deletion due to information loss during the processing of input information which results in energy loss. The computations involving reversibility cancel the loss of information by sustaining the input bits from output. In the basic arithmetic and logic units, the combinational circuits play a significant role in determining the performance of the processor. The principles involved in the design of reversibility is an upcoming technology for ultra-low power applications. The reversible logic circuits furnish a thoroughly new way to progress in Quantum computing. In this article, we propose an energy tolerant low power reversible multiplexer with optimum energy loss. The proposed multiplexer also reduces the ancillae, garbage outputs and quantum cost considerably.

Fault Tolerant Arithmetic and Logic Unit in Reversible Logic for Low Power Applications

S. Girija, Sangeetha B.G

To meet expectations of the futuristic technologies, thrust is on fast communication, low power, high computational speeds with delay intolerance. VLSI technology is laboring to meet the demands by incorporating low-power solutions to improve performance. Component size has come to Nano scales however, it has challenges of managing heat dissipation and physical limitations in fabrication. Reversible logic technology has gained momentum in research due to its prominence in Quantum computing and zero power dissipation. The arithmetic and Logic Unit is the significant component of any computing architecture, carrying out operations rigorously while consuming power for the endurance of performance. The proposed approach of designing the fault-tolerant Arithmetic and Logical Unit (ALU) in reversible logic for future computers. Analysis of the proposed design to existing designs is on the quantum cost (QC), garbage output (GO), ancilla input (AI), gate utilization (GC) and number of operations achieved. Improvements observed is at an average of 70% in AI and GC, 59% in QC , 53% in GO and operations are up by 33% to cater to the least power consumption applications.

Design and implementation of arithmetic and logic unit (ALU) using novel reversible gates in quantum cellular automata

A. Kamaraj, P. Marichamy

In the current scenario, power consumption, speed, size and heat dissipation are the huge challenge in the semiconductor industries. When the size of the single computing element is reduced then the speed can be improved and also if the power dissipation is reduced then the heat dissipation will be less. The possible solution for these two problems is the Reversible Logic and Quantum Cellular Automata (QCA). The Reversible Logic is considered to be the promising technology to the future Quantum computer technologies. The Reversible Logic gates prune the power dissipation to a larger extent. In this paper Novel Reversible Gates are proposed with Reversibility and Universality. The Arithmetic and Logic Unit (ALU) is designed with the proposed Reversible Gates in Reversible Logic. The designed Arithmetic and Logic unit is evaluated in QCA with the required specifications. The Arithmetic and Logic Unit is designed by setting the control inputs for each unit. The parameters taken into account are Quantum Cost (QC), Garbage Outputs (GO), Constant Inputs (CI), Area, Number of Cells and Simulation Time. The proposed ALU adopting Novel gates finds utilization in low power applications. Also it can be used as the module in the Quantum computers due to its reduced Quantum Cost and Garbage outputs. The Proposed design extends its applications over Quantum Computing, Optical Computing, Nanotechnology and DNA mapping.
