Abstract

One- and two-exciton cooperative states in ion pairs in Nd3+ doped CdF2, CaF2, and SrF2 crystals are studied. Strong resonance electrical exchange interaction with spin-flip determines the luminescence excitation spectra of the one-exciton entangled state.

Cooperative States of Nd3+ Ion Pairs and Clusters in Nd3+:LaF3 Crystal

Yu.V. Orlovskii, Elena Vinogradova, Vladimir Hiznyakov

Up to now, only quantum computing using few quantum bits have been realized [1]. Main obstacles to increase the size of quantum register are fast decoherence and difficulties to control many-qubits entanglement. The clusters of the Nd3+ions formed in the Nd3+:LaF3crystal can be a candidate for many-qubit CNOT-gate, because of their entangled states due to strong coherent interaction (Davydov's splitting; bright and dark states with their own lifetimes τ and ra), weak electron-phonon coupling and long coherence time of the excited states. It was shown earlier that satellite lines of the main spectral line for single-site optical center of absorption [2, 3] and fluorescence excitation spectra [2] of Nd3+:LaF3crystals can be attributed to Nd3+ion pairs. The direct measurement of the fluorescence decay times for various classes of Nd3+pairs was made [2] since the pairs are well selected by fluorescence excitation wavelength.

Theory on cooperative quantum transitions of three identical lanthanide ions

Qin Weiping, Sin Cholnam, Liu Zhenyu +2 more

Recently, we observed ultraviolet luminescence in CaF2:Yb3+ under the excitation of a 980 nm laser. In this paper, cooperative transition theory of three identical lanthanide ions is built through perturbed wave functions of a three-body system with electric multipole interactions. The theoretical results show that d-dd-dq and crystal field effected d-dd-dfd are the main mechanisms in the triple transition processes. The transition rate ratio of Yb3+-dimers and Yb3+-trimers in an Yb3+-hexamer is calculated to be ∼1.86×104. This is in reasonable agreement with the experimentally obtained cooperative luminescence intensity ratio of ∼2.0×104 in CaF2:Yb3+ under the excitation of a 980 nm laser.

Cooperative Quenching Energy Transfer in La1−xCexF3 Crystal

Tasoltan T. Basiev, Maxim E. Doroshenko, В. В. Осико

A new phenomena of nonradiative cooperative energy transfer from optically excited single Nd3+ ion to the cooperative acceptor formed by a pair of Ce3+ ions and from single excited Er3+ ion simultaneously to three Ce3+ ions acting as a nonlinear cooperative acceptor was observed by measuring the concentrational quenching of donor ions fluorescence in solid solution of La1−xCexF3.

De-excitation processes of optically excited Nd3+ pairs in CsCdBr3

R.B. Barthem, R. Buisson, F. Madéore +2 more

CsCdBr3 : Nd3+ crystals have been studied by laser selective excitation and time resolved spectroscopy. Due to the charge compensation resulting from the Nd3+ / Cd2+ substitution, the proportion of Nd3+ pairs is very large and does not follow the statistical laws. This proportion has been measured, its variation with concentration has been established and the effect of codoping with a monovalent metal observed. From a comparison between the properties of single ions and pairs, energy transfers have been analysed. De-excitation channels have been determined for some excited levels from the dynamics and the relative intensities of luminescence lines. An unusual behaviour, which can lead to applications, has been observed : the 4F3/2 luminescence of pairs if favoured with respect to that of single ions. This behaviour is well explained.

One- and two-photon spectra of Nd3+clusters in CaF2and SrF2crystals

Tasoltan T. Basiev, В. В. Воронов, M. Yu. Glotova +2 more

The polarised two-photon (IR) and one-photon (visible) luminescence excitation spectra of Nd 3+ nanoclusters in CaF 2 and SrF 2 crystals are measured at 10 K using a :LiF colour centre laser tunable in spectral ranges 1090 — 1230 nm and 545 — 615 nm with an emission linewidth of ~0.02 — 0.03 cm -1 , an average output power of ~55 mW, and a pulse repetition rate of 10 Hz. The two-photon excitation spectra at the 4 I 9/2 → 4 G 5/2 transition reveal the structure, which is absent upon one-photon excitation, which can be explained by different selection rules for some Stark — Stark transitions upon one- and two-photon absorption.
