Abstract

Quantum cryptography is the most convenient resolution for information security systems that presents an ultimate approach for key distribution.Today, the most viable key distribution resolutions for information security systems are those based on quantum cryptography. It is based on the quantum rules of physics rather than the assumed computational complexity of mathematical problems. But, the initial BB84 quantum key distribution protocol which is the raw key exchange of S13 quantum key distribution protocol has weakness of disclosure of large portion of secrete key or eavesdropping. Also, it cannot make use of most of the generated random bit. This paper enhanced S13 quantum key distribution protocol by employing polarization, secrete key disclosure and non-repudiation.The use of biometric or MAC address ensures non-repudiation.The row key exchange part of the S13 quantum key distribution which is the same as BB84 is enhanced by employing polarization techniques to make use of most of the generated random bit. Then, the tentative final key generated at the end of error estimation phase should be divided into blocks, padding, inverting the last bit of each block and XORing the block to generate a totally different key from the tentative one. Also, the random bits will be from biometric or serve MAC address respectively. The enhanced S13 quantum key is evaluated using cryptanalysis which shows that the enhanced protocol ensures disclosures of large portion of secrete key to prevent eavesdropping, utilization of most of the chosen binary strings to generate strong key and safeguarding against impersonation attack.

MODIFICATION & IMPLEMENTATION OF QUANTUM KEY DISTRIBUTION QKD(BB84) PROTOCOL

Quantum cryptography is a science that exploits quantum mechanical properties to perform cryptographic tasks. The best-known example of quantum cryptography is quantum key distribution, which offers an information-theoretically secure solution to the key exchange problem.I try to generalize the first quantum key distribution protocol called BB84 and implement the protocol in different steps. The implementation is performed in a fully theoretical manner with a general mathematical base.I propose here an algorithm that can make this protocol more secure. After implementation of the protocol, I tried to find out the result, which I illustrated with figures and tables and also proposed here as a suitable polarizer diagram model that helped me find the outcome of this concept. My proposed polarizer diagram only works to encode and decode the valuable secret key that is transferred from sender to receiver, and the secret key will not be transferred as binary bit data but as a photon particle by the photon polarizer converter.Though the protocol BB84 is the most secure of all quantum key distribution protocols, I tried to make it more secure from any third-party access.

QUANTUM KEY DISTRIBUTION SCHEME: AN IMPROVEMENT BASED ON BB84 PROTOCOL

Kausik Saha

Cryptography is being introduced to secure data. Through Classical Cryptographic technique, we can encrypt our data and secure secret key also. But classical cryptography is based on mathematical techniques where reversing one-way function is possible with sufficient computing power and time. So, Quantum Cryptography is introduced to overcome those drawbacks of traditional classical cryptography. It is based on the values of quantum mechanics and photon. Scientists and researchers have brought up a new key distribution protocol based on Quantum Cryptography is called Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) Protocol. The first QKD protocol BB84 was introduced by Charles Bennett and Gilles Brassard in 1984. After that several QKD protocols have been created. In this paper we have improved BB84 Protocol by removing the drawbacks of the existing algorithm towards Eavesdropping which may not be detected or disclosing large portion of secret key. Steps of the existing BB84 algorithm along with the modified one is described in detail with example and pseudo code. Limitations of BB84 and comparative study of both the existing and the improved one based on their security has been made and described in this current work.

Increasing the Protocol Gain of Quantum Cryptography

Firas A. Al-Juboori, Noor Kareem Juma, a Al-Mandilawi

Quantum cryptography is a technique to distribute a sequence of truly random and unconditionally secure bits over a secure communication by applying the phenomena of quantum physics. The distributed secret bits perform the secret key which is used later to encrypt messages with an encryption algorithm, usually the One-Time-Pad is used. Quantum Key Distribution solves the security problem in classical cryptography by depending on the laws of physics which is focusing on the physics of information. Quantum protocol gain usually is low due to the quantum channel noise and the difference between the photon polarization at the sender and receiver side; in this research, a method is proposed to increase the protocol gain without decreasing the security level of quantum key. BB84 quantum key distribution algorithm is implemented and simulated with MATLAB R2010a simulation; and a comparison is made with A. Singh and N. Sharma [14] results.

En-BB84: Advancements in Secure Quantum Key Distribution with Improved Error Resilience and Built-in Authentication

Yashwanth Venkat, D Preetha Evangeline, P Anandha Kumar

Quantum key distribution (QKD) is a method that enables secure communication between two parties by applying the ideas of quantum physics. By minimizing information leakage that can happen during the key generation process, privacy amplification is a technique used to improve the security of QKD. The technique involves processing the raw key obtained from QKD through a randomization procedure to remove any residual information that may have been leaked during the quantum transmission. While privacy amplification can significantly improve the security of QKD, the effectiveness of the technique is limited by the quality of the initial raw key. The BB84 QKD protocol has been improved with the proposed En-BB84 protocol, which includes built-in authentication and integrity checks. The En-BB84 protocol ensures secure distribution of secret keys and protects against tampering by attackers. Key distillation and error correction techniques are employed to extract a shorter, more secure shared secret key and correct errors introduced during qubit transmission. The protocol utilizes a four-state QKD approach, expanding on the traditional two-state scheme of BB84. A simulation of the En-BB84 protocol is demonstrated using a quantum circuit implemented with Qiskit in Python. The circuit employs various gates and operations, including Hadamard, CX, controlled swap, and RZ gates, to achieve encoding and error correction. Furthermore, we have designed a better protocol with improved error rates by incorporating improvisations on the BB84 protocol. Experimental results indicate the successful integration of the B92 error correction scheme into the modified BB84 protocol, enhancing the security and performance of QKD systems.
