Abstract

Abstract In this work, we investigate the quantum state reconstruction of the periodic input state in a 1-D waveguide array. In particular, we consider a single-photon multimode entangled W-state with different periodicities as an input to the array and study the effect of periodicity in the output. For comparison, we also study separable single photon periodic input states. We study the evolution of average photon number and the fidelity of the periodic input state and give the exact solution to investigate the revival of single photon multimode periodic input. Our solution is valid for any number of waveguides in the array. Our findings show the revival of the average photon number and almost complete quantum state reconstruction of the initial multimode entangled state for certain periodicities. The results reported here are significant because multimode-entangled states are essential resources for various applications in the physical implementation of photonic quantum technologies.

Photon correlations in multimode waveguides

Eilon Poem, Yaron R. Silberberg

We consider the propagation of classical and nonclassical light in multimode optical waveguides. We focus on the evolution of the few-photon correlation functions, which, much as the light-intensity distribution in such systems, evolve in a periodic manner, culminating in the ``revival'' of the initial correlation pattern at the end of each period. It is found that when the input state possesses nontrivial symmetries, the correlation revival period can be longer than that of the intensity, and thus the same intensity pattern can display different correlation patterns. We experimentally demonstrate this effect for classical, pseudothermal light, and compare the results with the predictions for nonclassical, quantum light.

Periodic State Revivals in Commensurate Waveguide Arrays

Jovan Petrovic, J. J. P. Veerman

Emerging optical and quantum computers require hardware capable of coherent transport of and operations on quantum states. Here, we investigate finite optical waveguide arrays with linear coupling as means of efficient and compact coherent state transfer. Coherent transfer with periodic state revivals is enabled by engineering coupling coefficients between neighbouring waveguides to yield commensurate eigenvalue spectrum. Particular cases of finite arrays have been actively studied to achieve the perfect state transfer by mirroring the input into the output state. We explore a much wider scope of coherent propagation and revivals of both the state amplitude and phase. We analytically solve the inverse eigenvalue problem to find the corresponding array coupling coefficients and use them to construct optical waveguide arrays that support full state revivals. We present analytical solutions for general arrays with 4 and 5 waveguides and for symmetric arrays with 7 and 9 waveguides. These solutions include previously proposed families of solutions based on equidistance between eigenvalues.

Bipartite and tripartite continuous variable entanglement in a circular array of coupled optical waveguides

Tonipe Anuradha, Amit Rai

Abstract Integrated optical systems have evolved into suitable platforms in the field of photonic quantum technologies. New technologies open up new possibilities for multimode quantum operations. Here we study how circularly coupled waveguide arrays generate bipartite and tripartite continuous-variable (CV) entanglement. We focus on the single-mode squeezed state as input to the circular array of the waveguide system. Our findings suggest that the circularly coupled arrays can be used to generate entangled sources in CV quantum technologies. So the generation of entanglement makes the circular arrays more critical for further investigation and in the applications of photonic CV quantum-information processing.

Dynamics of a Schrödinger cat state in a photonic waveguide array

Dante Urbieta Maldonado, J. S. S. Durán Gómez, Roberto Ramírez-Alarcón +1 more

We report the study of the dynamics of a Schrödinger cat state (SCS) in a photonic lattice, in which two different types of coupling functions between the waveguides are considered: a constant coupling and a parabolic coupling. In addition, we investigate the inclusion of defects in the constant coupling function condition for one or three waveguides. In our study, we evaluate the average number of photons per waveguide and the fidelity in order to determine the distribution of light in the lattice for each coupling function and to find conditions to reach a perfect state transfer (PST). In the case of constant coupling, it is not possible to obtain a PST since the state distributes over all the lattice, with the inclusion of defects serving as a control mechanism in this process. In the case of parabolic coupling, we observe PST when the lattice is composed of an odd number of coupled waveguides, while, for an even number of coupled waveguides, we observe that by varying the phase of the SCS, different values of the fidelity can be obtained. Interestingly, in this last case, it is possible to achieve values of the fidelity closer to one by choosing a phase of π and a small average number of photons.

Multi-qubit non-Markovian dynamics in photonic crystal with infinite cavity-array structure

Heng-Na Xiong, Yi Li, Yixiao Huang +1 more

We study the exact non-Markovian dynamics of a multi-qubit system coupled to a photonic-crystal waveguide with infinite cavity-array structure. A general solution of the evolution state of the system is solved for a general initial state in the single-excitation subspace. With this solution, we find that the non-Markovian effect of the environment on the system could be enhanced not only by increasing the system-environment coupling strength but also by adding the qubit number in the system. The explicit non-Markovian dynamics are discussed under two initial states to see the non-Markovian effect on entanglement preservation and entanglement generation. We find that the non-Markovian effect tends to preserve the system in its initial state.

Transfer of non-classical features and quantum states of light in circularly coupled waveguide arrays

Atmadev Rai, Amit Rai

Abstract We investigate the applicability of the circular arrays of coupled single-mode optical waveguides in transferring the non-classical state of light for quantum information processing. We study the nonclassical states of light, such as a single-photon Fock state, a two-photon NOON state, a single-mode squeezed state and a two-mode squeezed state as inputs to the lattice, which are key resources for various applications in the field of quantum information science. In addition, for comparison, we also examine a coherent state. We investigate the transport of non-classical features and quantum states of light from one waveguide mode to another. For the single and two-mode squeezed states, we perform a detailed study of the evolution of the squeezing. Our work highlights the potential of the circular arrays of optical waveguides platform for the transport of non-classical features and quantum states of light. We expect our results should have applications in the physical implementation of photonic quantum technologies.
