Abstract

We show the Sum-Frequency Generation characteristics of our periodically-poled silica fiber source for spontaneous parametric downconversion at 780 and 1560 nm; efficiencies are on an order of 4 × 10-6 and photon bandwidths of ~489 GHz.

Parametric fluorescence in periodically poled silica fibers

Gabriele Bonfrate, Valerio Pruneri, Peter G. Kazansky +2 more

We report the observation of quasiphase matched parametric fluorescence from a periodically poled silica fiber. A pair-photon production rate of more than 100 MHz around 1532 nm was achieved in second-order nonlinear gratings for 300 mW of pump power at 766 nm. These results are very promising for the realization of reliable all-fiber single-photon sources for quantum cryptography systems and metrology applications.

Nonlinear Frequency Generation in Poled Fibers: From Sum-Frequency to Polarization-Entangled Photon Pairs

Li Qian, Eric Y. Zhu, Zhiyuan Tang

We review recent progress in nonlinear frequency generation in periodically-poled silica fibers (PPSFs). Using a birefringent PPSF, we enable spectrally-separate type-II quasi-phase-matching and demonstrate both polarization-dependent sum-frequency generation and direct polarization-entangled photon pair generation.

Broadband fiber-based entangled photon-pair source at telecom O-band

Changjia Chen, Calvin Xu, Arash Riazi +4 more

In this Letter, we report a polarization-entangled photon-pair source based on type-II spontaneous parametric downconversion at telecom O-band in periodically poled silica fiber (PPSF). The photon-pair source exhibits more than 130 nm ( ∼ 24 T H z ) emission bandwidth centered at 1306.6 nm. The broad emission spectrum results in a short biphoton correlation time, and we experimentally demonstrate a Hong–Ou–Mandel interference dip with a full width of 26.6 fs at half-maximum. Owing to the low birefringence of the PPSF, the biphotons generated from type-II SPDC are polarization-entangled over the entire emission bandwidth, with a measured fidelity to a maximally entangled state greater than 95.4%. The biphoton source provides the broadest bandwidth entangled biphotons at O-band to our knowledge.

We report type II sum-frequency and second-harmonic generation in a 24-cm-long periodically-poled silica fiber. Quasi-phase matching is achieved for orthogonally-polarized signal and idler over 1520-1575 nm, demonstrating the path to in-fiber broadband polarization-entangled photon pair generation.

Emission of OAM entangled photon pairs in a nonlinear ring fiber utilizing spontaneous parametric down-conversion

Dalibor Javůrek, Jiŕí Svozilík, Jan Peřina

We suggest the generation of photon pairs in a thermally induced nonlinear periodically-poled silica fiber by spontaneous parametric down-conversion. Photons are generated directly in eigenstates of optical angular momentum. Photons in a pair can be entangled in these states as well as in frequencies. We identify suitable spatial and polarization modes giving an efficient nonlinear interaction. By changing the pump field properties both narrow- and broad-band down-converted fields can be obtained.
