The Effect of Quantum Noise on Multipartite Entanglement from a Cascaded Parametric Amplifier

Abstract

The tripartite entanglement generated from a cascaded parametric amplifier is always present in the whole gain region in the ideal condition. However, in practical applications, the quantum entanglement is very fragile and easily deteriorated by quantum noise from interactions with external environments, e.g., the avoidable attenuation and amplification operations may lead to some degradation effects on the quantum entanglement. Therefore, in this work, bipartite entanglement for the three pairs and tripartite entanglement in this cascaded parametric amplifier under the circumstances of attenuation and amplification operations are analyzed by using positivity under partial transposition criterion. The results show that tripartite entanglement is robust to the deterioration effects from the attenuation and amplification operations rather than bipartite entanglement. Our results may find some practical applications of multipartite quantum entanglement in quantum secure communications.

Effect of losses on multipartite entanglement from cascaded four-wave mixing processes

Tianxiang Wei, Shuchao Lv, Jietai Jing

Multipartite entanglement is an important resource in quantum information. For its generation and manipulation, optical losses are inevitable experimental imperfections that cannot be ignored. In this paper, by using the positivity under partial transposition criterion, we theoretically characterize the effect of losses on two multipartite entanglement cases, tripartite entanglement and quadripartite entanglement, which are generated by cascaded four-wave mixing processes. The characterization of entanglement is made possible by calculating the smallest symplectic eigenvalues of the partially transposed covariance matrix. It is verified that when the power gains are smaller than 5, both the tripartite and the quadripartite entanglement can be maintained under the realistic experimental condition (less than 20% losses). In addition, we also study how the losses will affect the entanglement of subsystems in both cases. Our results pave the way for the experimental implementation of multipartite entanglement in cascaded four-wave mixing processes.

Generation of Three-Mode Entanglement Based on Parametric Amplifiers Using Quantum Entanglement Swapping

Hailong Wang, Ning Ru, Pingwei Lin

Quantum entanglement swapping is one of the most promising quantum techniques to create or manipulate large-scale multi-mode entanglement between two distant quantum entangled systems. In this work, a scheme for the generation of three-mode entanglement based on parametric amplifiers using quantum entanglement swapping has been proposed. The newly generated three-mode entanglement is always present in the whole power gain region from parametric amplifiers and its dependence on transmission loss and feedforward gain is also investigated. In addition, the effects of power gain, transmission loss, and feedforward gain on the two-mode entanglement of the three pairs in the newly generated three-mode entanglement have also been analysed in detail. The results presented here may find some practical applications in quantum secure communication.

Disentanglement of three-qubit states in a noisy environment

Jie-Hui Huang, Li‐Gang Wang, Shi-Yao Zhu

By applying a modified conjugate gradient method in the evaluation of three-qubit residual entanglement, the disentanglement of three-qubit states in an amplitude-damping and dephasing environment is investigated numerically. It is found that the decay of tripartite entanglement is faster than bipartite entanglement in the same qubits-noise system, which indicates that multipartite entanglement is more fragile than bipartite entanglement in resisting quantum noises. Similar to the case of a two-qubit system, three-qubit entanglement subject to an open environment may also disappear abruptly (sudden death) or decrease asymptotically, which is dependent on the conditions of the initially entangled quantum state and the properties of quantum noise.

Preserving quantum entanglement from parametric amplifications with a correlation modulation scheme

Jun Xin, Xiao-Ming Lu, Hailong Wang +1 more

Amplification of an entangled state is a matter of great significance in quantum communication. However, any parametric amplifier (PA) will introduce added noise into the system which unavoidably degrades the entanglement or even makes it disappear. Recently, it has been experimentally demonstrated that amplification of one half of a two-mode squeezed state is possible while preserving entanglement [Phys. Rev. Lett. 103, 010501 (2009)]. However, such entanglement cannot be maintained when the strength of the amplification is large. To solve this problem, we propose a correlation modulation scheme (CMS), which fully exploits the quantum correlation between the two output states from the PA process, to suppress the added noise from the parametric amplifications. For amplifying an entangled state using a PA, we demonstrate that the CMS not only better maintains but also always preserves the entanglement whatever the strength of the PA. Such a CMS may pave the way to low-noise amplification of an entangled state.

Continuous variable multipartite entanglement in cascaded nonlinearities

Goutam Misra, Ashok Kumar

Abstract Multipartite entanglement is the crucial requirement for quantum information processing, quantum computation, quantum communication and quantum sensing. Therefore, the generation and characterization of such entanglement are primary goals in quantum technologies. Here we theoretically study the multipartite continuous-variable quadrature entanglement generated by three symmetric cascaded nonlinear optical systems. Such cascaded systems allow us to study the bipartite, tripartite and quadripartite entanglement. We use different continuous-variable entanglement criteria to characterize the entanglement. We observe that only a few bipartite combinations show the entanglement out of all possible combinations, while most tripartite combinations are entangled. Interestingly such a system depicts a full quadripartite entanglement. Moreover, we show that, unlike the quadrature sum-variance entanglement criterion, the negative partial transpose criterion can show the entanglement in most cases. The present comprehensive analysis of the generation and characterization of the continuous-variable entanglement with cascaded systems would pave the way to realizing a complex quantum network.

Multi-Mode Correlation in a Concurrent Parametric Amplifier

Hailong Wang, Yunpeng Shi

A concurrent parametric amplifier consisting of two pump beams is used to investigate the possibility of generating multi-mode correlation and entanglement. The existence of three-mode entanglement is demonstrated by analyzing the violation degree of three-mode entanglement criteria, including the sufficient criterion, i.e., two-condition and optimal single-condition criterion, and necessary and sufficient criterion, i.e., positivity under partial transposition (PPT) criterion. Besides, two-mode entanglement generated from any pair is also studied by using the Duan criterion and PPT criterion. We find that three-mode entanglement and two-mode entanglement of the two pairs are present in the whole parameter region. Our results pave the way for the realization and application of multi-mode correlation and entanglement based on the concurrent parametric amplifiers.
