Abstract

The experimental realization of Rydberg dressing and spin-orbit coupling greatly broadens the research field of ultracold atoms as a quantum simulation platform. Very recently, moiré lattices have attracted intensive study, ranging from condensed matter to ultracold physics. In this paper, the ground-state structure of Rydberg-dressed Bose gas with spin-orbit coupling and confined in moiré lattices is studied, and the effects of nonlocal Rydberg interaction and spin-orbit coupling on the ground state of the system are explored. Our results show that the system has no translational symmetry due to the presence of nonlocal Rydberg interaction, and more and more regular periodic structures present with the increases of the strength of nonlocal Rydberg interaction. In the presence of spin-orbit coupling, the Hamiltonian of the system has an imaginary part, and the phase of the system is not uniformly distributed. It is found that the ground state of the system with spin-orbit coupling present more abundant internal structure base on these periodic structures. The results pave the way for future study of moiré physics in ultracold atom system.

Spin–orbit-coupled Bose gas with Rydberg interactions confined in a two-dimensional optical lattice

Lin-Xue Wang, Fang Kong, Hongli Yang +4 more

We consider the ground state of Rydberg-dressed Bose gas with spin–orbit coupling and confined in a two-dimensional optical lattice. The effects of system’s parameters, especially the nonlocal Rydberg interaction and spin–orbit coupling, on the ground-state structure of such a system are explored in full parameter space. It is found that in the absence of spin–orbit coupling, the ground-state structure of the system changes from the initial optical lattice structure to a two-dimensional periodic one with the cell size decreasing with the strength of Rydberg interaction. In the presence of spin–orbit coupling, both the phase and the internal structure of unit cell show strong dependence on the strength of spin–orbit coupling. Finally, the strong interacting gas is also considered.

Ground state of Rydberg-dressed Bose gas confined in a toroidal trap

Lin-Xue Wang, Hongli Yang, Hui Liu +3 more

Abstract The experimental realization of Rydberg dressing technology in ultracold atomic systems provides another superior platform for studying novel states of matter and macroscopic quantum phenomena. In this work, based on the mean-field theory, we have investigated the ground-state phases of a two-component Bose–Einstein condensate with Rydberg interaction and confined in a toroidal trap. The effects of the Rydberg interaction and external potential, especially the Rydberg blockade radius, on the ground-state structure of such a system have been investigated in full parameter space. Our results show that the Rydberg blockade radius, which can be regarded as another controllable parameter, can be used to obtain a variety of ground-state phases. More interestingly, it is found that for weak Rydberg interactions, the Rydberg blockade radius breaks the spontaneous rotational symmetry of the system, leading to the formation of a discrete unit cell structure. For strongly interacting cases, it can be used to realize different orders of discrete rotational symmetry breaking.

Ground state phases and topological excitations of spin-1 Bose−Einstein condensate in twisted optical lattices

Tian-Tian Li, Ze-Hong Guo, Xiao-Ning Wang +1 more

Recently, the simulation of moiré physics using cold atom platforms has gained significant attention. These platforms provide an opportunity to explore novel aspects of moiré physics that go beyond the limits of traditional condensed matter systems. Building on recent experimental advancements in creating twisted bilayer spin-dependent optical lattices for pseudospin-1/2 Bose gases, we extend this concept to a trilayer optical lattice for spin-1 Bose gases. Unlike conventional moiré patterns, which are typically induced by interlayer tunneling or interspin coupling, the moiré pattern in this trilayer system arises from inter-species atomic interactions. We investigate the ground state of Bose-Einstein condensates loaded in this spin-1 twisted optical lattice under both ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic interactions. We find that the ground state forms a periodic pattern of distinct phases in the homogeneous case, including ferromagnetic, antiferromagnetic, polar, and broken axial symmetry phases. Additionally, by quenching the optical lattice potential strength, we examine the quench dynamics of the system above the ground state and observe the emergence of topological excitations such as vortex pairs. This study provides a pathway for exploring the rich physics of spin-1 twisted optical lattices and expands our understanding of moiré systems in synthetic quantum platforms.

Rydberg-dressed Bose–Einstein condensate with spin–orbit coupling confined in a radially periodic potential

Pu Tu, Qingqing Wang, Kaihua Shao +4 more

Abstract The use of Rydberg dressing technology to achieve long-range soft-core interaction in Bose–Einstein condensates (BECs) opens up new avenues for exploration of supersolid and its related phenomenon. We investigate the ground state of a two-component spin–orbit-coupled BECs with both long-range soft-core and contact interactions in radially periodic potentials. Our results show that the ground-state structures of the system are strongly influenced by spin–orbit coupling, contact interactions, long-range soft-core interactions, and the amplitude of the external potential. We find that such parameters can been used to induce desired ground-states structures, such as necklace structure of lump, striped standing wave, and especially ring dark soliton. Furthermore, we observe that the long-range soft-core interactions are used to manipulate the transition between miscible-immiscible phases like contact interactions. Our research provides another degree of freedom for manipulating supersolids in spin–orbit-coupled BECs.

Spin-orbit-coupled Bose gases with nonlocal Rydberg interactions held under a toroidal trap

Xiao-Fei Zhang, Lin Wen, Lin-Xue Wang +3 more

We consider a spin-orbit-coupled Bose-Einstein condensate with nonlocal Rydberg interactions confined in a toroidal trap. Our results show that the interplay among nonlocal Rydberg interactions, contact interactions, spin-orbit coupling, and the external toroidal trap can give rise to a rich variety of ground-state phases, such as lump necklace, chiral supersolid, standing- and plane-wave supersolid, and so on. Furthermore, we clarify the different breaking of symmetry induced by system parameters. Finally, the limiting case of a quasi-one-dimensional ring has also been investigated, and our analytical results agree well with the Gross-Pitaevskii numerical simulations. We also give an experimental protocol to observe these states in future experiments.

Spin–orbit coupled Bose–Einstein condensates with Rydberg-dressing interaction

Hao Lü, Shaobing Zhu, Jun Qian +1 more

Interaction between Rydberg atoms can be used to control the properties of interatomic interaction in ultracold gases by weakly dressing the atoms with a Rydberg state. Here we investigate the effect of the Rydberg-dressing interaction on the ground-state properties of a Bose–Einstein condensate imposed by Raman-induced spin–orbit coupling. We find that, in the case of SU(2)-invariant s-wave interactions, the gas is only in the plane-wave phase and the zero-momentum phase is absent. In particular, we also predict an unexpected magnetic stripe phase composed of two plane-wave components with unequal weight when s-wave interactions are non-symmetric, which originates from the Rydberg-dressing interaction.
