Generation of continuous-variable high-dimensional entanglement with three degrees of freedom and multiplexing quantum dense coding

Hui Guo, Na Liu, Li Zhi +4 more

High-dimensional entanglement is a critical foundation for the growing demand for information capacity to implement the high-capacity quantum task. Here, we report continuous-variable high-dimensional entanglement with three degrees of freedom (frequency, polarization, and orbital angular momentum) directly generated with a single type-II optical parametric oscillator (OPO) cavity. By compensating both for dispersion in frequency modes and astigmatism in higher-order transverse modes, the OPO is capable of oscillating simultaneously and outputting thousands of entanglement pairs. The three degrees of freedom high-dimensional entanglement are verified simultaneously possessing frequency comb, spin, and orbital angular momentum entanglement via 14 pairs of Hermite–Gaussian mode correlations measurement. Then, the “space-frequency” multiplexing quantum dense coding communication is also demonstrated by using the entanglement resource. It shows the great superiority of high-dimensional entanglement in implementing the high-capacity quantum task. Apart from an increased channel capacity, it is possible to conduct deterministic high-dimensional quantum protocols, quantum imaging, and especially quantum computing.

High capacity information transmission with single-photon in polarization and spatial mode degrees of freedom over a collective noisy channel

Ruitong Zhao, Lianglun Cheng

Abstract High-dimensional quantum states are potential resources to enhance the channel capacity of information transmission over noisy channels. However, the over-consumption of entanglement and joint measurement make previous proposals of information transmission unpractical , taking quantum dense coding as an example. In this paper, we report high-capacity information transmission over a collective noisy channel using single-photon states both in polarization and spatial mode degrees of freedom and quantum channel multiplexing. Our proposal can reach the same channel capacity as quantum dense coding, even over the collective noisy channel. These results will provide an optional and feasible method to high-capacity information transmission and help to promote the practicability of quantum communication.

Continuous-variable dense coding by optomechanical cavities

Shabir Barzanjeh, Stefano Pirandola, Christian Weedbrook

In this paper, we show how continuous-variable dense coding can be implemented using entangled light generated from a membrane-in-the-middle geometry. The mechanical resonator is assumed to be a high reflectivity membrane hung inside a high quality factor cavity. We show that the mechanical resonator is able to generate an amount of entanglement between the optical modes at the output of the cavity, which is strong enough to approach the capacity of quantum dense coding at small photon numbers. The suboptimal rate reachable by our optomechanical protocol is high enough to outperform the classical capacity of the noiseless quantum channel.
