Abstract

Abstract Wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) technology can improve the networking level and overcome the shortcomings of low key rate under the existing technic background of measurement device independent quantum key distribution (MDI-QKD) protocol application. reference frame independent quantum key distribution (RFI-MDI-QKD) protocol cut down on the influence of the reference frame drift on the key distribution system. The decoy state protocol has important development prospects in the development of quantum communication networking. Combining the advantages of of the above protocols to realize RFI-MDI-QKD with WDM, the results show that the key distribution efficiency is improved with the increase in the number of WDM multiplexed channels, which promotes the further exploration and achievement of QKD networking application.

Reference-frame-independent quantum key distribution of wavelength division multiplexing with multiple quantum channels*

Zhongqi Sun, Yanxin Han, Tianqi Dou +5 more

Reference-frame-independent quantum key distribution (RFI-QKD) can allow a quantum key distribution system to obtain the ideal key rate and transmission distance without reference system calibration, which has attracted much attention. Here, we propose an RFI-QKD protocol based on wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) considering finite-key analysis and crosstalk. The finite-key bound for RFI-QKD with decoy states is derived under the crosstalk of WDM. The resulting secret key rate of RFI-QKD, which is more rigorous, is obtained. Simulation results reveal that the secret key rate of RFI-QKD based on WDM is affected by the multiplexing channel number, as well as crosstalk between adjacent channels.

Round-robin-differential-phase-shift quantum key distribution based on wavelength division multiplexing

Hong Lai, MingXing Luo, Yongjian Xu +4 more

Abstract Most quantum communications are resilient against eavesdropping attacks. But most protocols fail to address the problems of the poor rates of data transmission and key generation with the constraints of transmission distance and misattribution errors. To address these issues, we propose a new round-robin-differential-phase-shift (RRDPS) quantum key distribution (QKD) protocol to improve the transmission and key generation rates, secure transmission distance and misattribution errors. The new protocol named WDM-OAM-MDI-RRDPS QKD protocol is based on a combination of the wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) technique, Fibonacci-valued orbital angular momentum (OAM) theory, decoy state and measurement-device independent (MDI) method. It utilizes a series of coherent weak sources simultaneously and high-capacity Fibonacci-valued encoding technology. In our protocol, WDM technology can greatly increase the amount of information transmitted in optical fiber communication, and improve the transmission efficiency, the total secure bit rate and the key generation rate of QKD. The OAM theory can achieve basis independence and increase the information capacity per photon from one to five. Fibonacci-valued OAM states can be used to reduce misattribution errors. The decoy state and MDI method can be used to increase the transmission distance resilient to the Photon-number-splitting and detector blinding attacks.

Reference-frame-independent measurement device-independent quantum key distribution with heralded single-photon sources

Jun Lu, Wenhe Zhuo, Liangjie Cui +4 more

Quantum cryptography has a strong security that classical cryptography cannot match, and quantum key distribution (QKD) is the most important method of quantum cryptography. Reference-frame-independent measurement-device-independent QKD (RFI-MDI-QKD) protocol can avoid the drift of the reference frame and all side channels of measurement devices. However, RFI MDI-QKD usually employs a weak coherent state (WCS) as the light source, which limits the transmission distance of secure keys. Here, by using heralded single-photon sources, we investigate an improved decoy-state RFI-MDI-QKD scheme. We perform numerical simulations for the scheme under different scenarios, such as considering the finite size and different drift angles. Compared with the scheme with WCS, our scheme can significantly improve the transmission distance of RFI-MDI-QKD.

Polarization-multiplexing-based measurement-device-independent quantum key distribution without phase reference calibration

Hongwei Liu, Jipeng Wang, Haiqiang Ma +1 more

Measurement-device-independent quantum key distribution (MDI-QKD) is proved to be able to eliminate all potential detector side channel attacks. Combining with the reference frame independent (RFI) scheme, the complexity of practical system can be reduced because of the unnecessary alignment for reference frame. Here, based on polarization multiplexing, we propose a time-bin encoding structure, and experimentally demonstrate the RFI-MDI-QKD protocol. Thanks to this, two of the four Bell states can be distinguished, whereas only one is used to generate the secure key in previous RFI-MDI-QKD experiments. As far as we know, this is the first demonstration for RFI-MDI-QKD protocol with clock rate of 50 MHz and distance of more than hundred kilometers between legitimate parties Alice and Bob. In asymptotic case, we experimentally compare RFI-MDI-QKD protocol with the original MDI-QKD protocol at the transmission distance of 160 km, when the different misalignments of the reference frame are deployed. By considering observables and statistical fluctuations jointly, four-intensity decoy-state RFI-MDI-QKD protocol with biased bases is experimentally achieved at the transmission distance of 100km and 120km. The results show the robustness of our scheme, and the key rate of RFI-MDI-QKD can be improved obviously under a large misalignment of the reference frame.

Twin-Field Quantum Key Distribution Protocol Based on Wavelength-Division-Multiplexing Technology

Yanxin Han, Zhongqi Sun, Tianqi Dou +5 more

Quantum key distribution (QKD) generates information-theoretical secret keys between two parties based on the physical laws of quantum mechanics. Following the advancement in quantum communication networks, it becomes feasible and economical to combine QKD with classical optical communication through the same fiber using dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) technology. This study proposes a detailed scheme of TF-QKD protocol with DWDM technology and analyzes its performance, considering the influence of quantum channel number and adjacent quantum crosstalk on the secret key rates. The simulation results show that the scheme further increases the secret key rate of TF-QKD and its variants. Therefore, this scheme provides a method for improving the secret key rate for practical quantum networks.

Improving the performance of reference-frame-independent quantum key distribution with advantage distillation technology

Xiao-Lei Jiang, Yang Wang, Jia-Ji Li +4 more

The reference-frame-independent quantum key distribution (RFI-QKD) has the advantage of tolerating reference frames that slowly vary. It can generate secure keys between two remote users with slowly drifted and unknown reference frames. However, the drift of reference frames may inevitably compromise the performance of QKD systems. In the paper, we employ the advantage distillation technology (ADT) to the RFI-QKD and the RFI measurement-device-independent QKD (RFI MDI-QKD), and we then analyze the effect of ADT on the performance of decoy-state RFI-QKD and RFI MDI-QKD in both asymptotic and nonasymptotic cases. The simulation results show that ADT can significantly improve the maximum transmission distance and the maximum tolerable background error rate. Furthermore, the performance of RFI-QKD and RFI MDI-QKD in terms of the secret key rate and maximum transmission distance are still greatly improved when statistical fluctuations are taken into account. Our work combines the merits of the ADT and RFI-QKD protocols, which further enhances the robustness and practicability of QKD systems.
