This paper describes a hybrid quantum-classical system for solving the Capacity-Constrained Vehicle Routing Problem (CVRP) using a real-world distribution network in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. The problem is formulated as a quadratic unconstrained binary optimization (QUBO) model, and the solution is implemented using the D-Wave quantum approximate optimization algorithm (QAOA) and quantum annealing. A modular software architecture is described that enables seamless execution on both the IBM Quantum platform and the D-Wave platform. Testing experiments on custom Samarkand instances and standard CVRP datasets showed that the D-Wave hybrid solver yields 1.86–2.34% better solutions than the OR-Tools heuristics on average instances.

Algorithm engineering for a quantum annealing platform

Andrew D. King, Catherine C. McGeoch

Recent advances bring within reach the viability of solving combinatorial problems using a quantum annealing algorithm implemented on a purpose-built platform that exploits quantum properties. However, the question of how to tune the algorithm for most effective use in this framework is not well understood. In this paper we describe some operational parameters that drive performance, discuss approaches for mitigating sources of error, and present experimental results from a D-Wave Two quantum annealing processor.

High-temperature d -wave superconducting stripe phase in a dimer-embedded extended Hubbard model

Muhammad Irfan, Z L Li, Zhipeng Sun +2 more

Abstract D -wave superconductivity in high- T c cuprates is believed to be strongly intertwined with stripe order. In this work, using the constrained-path quantum Monte Carlo method, we study the superconducting behavior of a dimer-embedded extended Hubbard model with on-site repulsion U and nearest-neighbor attractive interaction V . Our results show that when the hopping between the dimer and its surroundings is small and U is less than induces a significant enhancement of d -wave superconductivity, mainly contributed by partially filled stripes consisting of one-dimensionally arranged dimers. This work provides a new platform for a deeper understanding of the interplay between d -wave superconductivity and stripe order in high- T c cuprates.
