Abstract

The article defines the criteria for choosing a cloud-based platform for mastering the basics of quantum informatics by students of a specialized (high) schools: cross-browser; intuitive interface; the possibility of free access; access without registration and simplified registration; the presence of a systematized reference system with examples; support for the development of the environment by the developer; support for working in a personal educational environment; support for working with quantum algorithms in graphical mode; automatic conversion of quantum algorithms from graphic format to program code text; support for the Ukrainian-language localization; availability of a mobile application; responsive design. The possibilities of platforms for implementing quantum algorithms from the following companies are analyzed: Microsoft, QuTech, Amazon Braket, IBM. The choice of the IBM Quantum cloud-based platform is justified. Work at IBM Quantum Composer and IBM Quantum Lab is described. Information about quantum operations and gates is presented: their designation in IBM Quantum Composer and IBM Quantum Lab, the gate matrix, and the purpose of the gate. An example of implementing quantum teleportation in the form of a circuit and program is given.

Didactic tools for teaching quantum informatics

Piotr Gawron, Jarosław Adam Miszczak

Development of quantum informatics as a new field of computer science poses new challenges to teachers and students of computer science. Among others, very dynamic branches of quantum informatics are quantum programming languages and simulation of quantum systems. This article presents the program of the lecture: Quantum systems of informatics that is proposed to students of last semesters of computer science at Faculty of Automatic Control, Electronics and Computer Science of Silesian University of TechnologyThe objective of this lecture is to familiarize students with notions and elements of quantum informatics. Lecture will introduce basic mathematical concepts needed to operate a quantum mechanics apparatus and elements of information theory. Many tools useful in education of quantum informatics are presented. Most of them are based on Quantum Computer Language. They are the authors' original work.In the last section the examples of programs of laboratory classes, during which described software is used, are presented.

Prospects of quantum informatics and studying its basics in school courses

Світлана Вікторівна Шокалюк, Людмила Володимирівна Легка

The purpose of this study is to review the main points of the experimental content of the basics of quantum computer science adapted for lyceum students, based on the prospects of the quantum approach to information processing for ultra-fast calculations in modeling objects of complex dynamical systems. In addition, software tools and Internet services are offered to organize effective training. A survey was conducted among 26 computer science teachers to assess the relevance and feasibility of introducing a “Fundamentals of quantum informatics and programming” course for lyceum students. The proposed 17-hour sample module covers key concepts of quantum computing, quantum circuits, quantum gates, and basic quantum algorithms. Expected learning outcomes and methodological support are discussed. The study concludes that quantum computer science has significant potential and proposes starting to study its basics in the school computer science course in grades 10-11, using universal software and Internet services like IBM Quantum Experience and Jupyter Notebooks with Python.

Unleashing quantum algorithms with Qinterpreter: bridging the gap between theory and practice across leading quantum computing platforms

Wilmer Contreras Sepúlveda, Braulio Misael Villegas-Martínez, Sandra Gesing +10 more

Quantum computing is a rapidly emerging and promising field with the potential to transform various research domains including drug design, network technologies, and sustainable energy solutions. Due to the inherent complexity and divergence from classical computing, several major quantum computing libraries have been developed to implement quantum algorithms, namely IBM Qiskit, Amazon Braket, Cirq, PyQuil, and PennyLane. These libraries enable quantum simulations on classical computers and execution on corresponding quantum hardware, such as Qiskit programs on IBM quantum computers. Despite the variations among these platforms, the core concepts remain the same. One notable challenge is the absence of a Python-based quantum interpreter to connect these five frameworks, a gap that remains to be fully addressed. In response, our work introduces a tool called Qinterpreter, accessible through a user-friendly web interface, the Quantum Science Gateway QubitHub, which operates alongside Jupyter Notebooks. Built using the Python Object-Oriented Programming System, Qinterpreter unifies the five well-known quantum libraries into a single framework. Designed as an educational tool for students and researchers entering the quantum domain, Qinterpreter enables the straightforward development and execution of quantum circuits across such platforms. This work highlights the quantum programming versatility and accessibility of Qinterpreter and underscores our ultimate goal of pervading Quantum Computing through younger, less specialized, and diverse cultural and national communities.

Prototype Container-Based Platform for Extreme Quantum Computing Algorithm Development

Patrick Dreher, Madhuvanti Ramasami

Recent advances in the development of the first generation of quantum computing devices have provided researchers with computational platforms to explore new ideas and reformulate conventional computational codes suitable for a quantum computer. Developers can now implement these reformulations on both quantum simulators and hardware platforms through a cloud computing software environment. For example, the IBM Q Experience provides the direct access to their quantum simulators and quantum computing hardware platforms. However these current access options may not be an optimal environment for developers needing to download and modify the source codes and libraries. This paper focuses on the construction of a Docker container environment with Qiskit source codes and libraries running on a local cloud computing system that can directly access the IBM Q Experience. This prototype container based system allows single user and small project groups to do rapid prototype development, testing and implementation of extreme capability algorithms with more agility and flexibility than can be provided through the IBM Q Experience website. This prototype environment also provides an excellent teaching environment for labs and project assignments within graduate courses in cloud computing and quantum computing. The paper also discusses computer security challenges for expanding this prototype container system to larger groups of quantum computing researchers.

Quantum applications based on the IBM QX platform

Josef POLÁK

This Bachelor thesis explores and clarifies the workings of quantum computer science. The first part of the work clarifies the fundamentals of quantum mechanics, which need to be known for understanding the following fundamentals of quantum informatics. In these bases are clarified expressions such as quantum bit, quantum logic gates, and many other properties of the quantum world (both positive and negative). The most famous algorithms, which are based on quantum computing, are also given for the idea. Another of the goals of the job is to explore and familiarize the IBM QX platform. You can learn about quantum circuits on this and use shared quantum computers in the cloud to run your own quantum circuits. The last part is the development of an application to solve the problem of the business traveller. An algorithm that works on a classical computer has been selected. Then quantum computing was plugged into an algorithm for acceleration. Finally, user interface creation followed. The application shows the workings of quantum computing rather than that it could be applicable in practice. Once redesigned, it could be used in logistics.
