Abstract

This paper investigates secure communication in a two-hop relaying system based on physical layer security. The relay employs time-switching simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) to harvest energy and receive information from the source, and then transmits the source’s information and its own information to the destination. A passive eavesdropper exists and wiretaps information transmission over both hops. Under the general system configuration, we first provide performance modeling to reveal the secrecy rate of source and relay as well as identify their utilities. Then, we analyze the hierarchical competition behaviors between the source and relay from a game-theoretic perspective. In particular, we develop a Stackelberg game-based analytical framework to determine the optimal strategies for the source and relay by deriving the Stackelberg equilibrium. Furthermore, we summarize the feasible conditions of utilizing SWIPT-enabled relaying for secure communication and propose the end-to-end transmission scheme accordingly. Extensive numerical results are presented to demonstrate the performance of the proposed SWIPT-enabled relaying system.

Secure Communication with a SWIPT-based Energy Harvesting Eavesdropper

Qun Li, Ding Xu

This paper investigates physical layer security of a multicarrier network with a legitimate source node, a legitimate destination node and an eavesdropper. Specifically, the eaves-dropper adopts the simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) by splitting the power of the received signals from the source node into two parts, one for energy harvesting and the remaining for information decoding, and a minimum harvested energy at the eavesdropper is required. We formulate a Stackelberg game, where the eavesdropper acts as a follower who aims to maximize its sum eavesdropping rate under the minimum harvested energy constraint, and the source node acts as a leader who aims to maximize its sum secrecy rate under the transmit power constraint. An algorithm is proposed to achieve the Stackelberg equilibrium. Simulation results are provided to verify the proposed algorithm. It is shown that the proposed algorithm greatly outperforms the benchmark algorithms.

Physical Layer Security in AF-Based Cooperative SWIPT Sensor Networks

Tan Nhat Nguyen, Dinh-Hieu Tran, Trinh Van Chien +6 more

Physical layer security (PLS) with radio frequency (RF) energy harvesting (EH) in wireless sensor networks has received significant interest as a technology for secure information transmission and prolonging the network lifetime, as well as improving energy efficiency. This article investigates PLS for a simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) cooperative network, which consists of multiple sensor sources, one EH relay (R), and one destination (D) in the presence of one eavesdropper (E). Furthermore, a low-complexity, suboptimal, yet efficient sensor source selection scheme is proposed. Specifically, one sensor source is chosen to transmit information to the relay and destination such that it obtains the best channel from sensor sources to the relay. Then, by considering two relaying strategies, termed the direct link plus static power splitting-based relaying (SPSR) and direct link plus optimal dynamic power splitting-based relaying (ODPSR), the performance analysis in terms of intercept probability (IP) and outage probability (OP) is carried out for each one. Notably, the eavesdropper and destination utilize maximal ratio combining (MRC) to incorporate the received signals from the selected sensor source and the relay, which poses new challenges in obtaining the analytical expressions. In this context, we derive analytical expressions for the OP (for SPSR and ODPSR) at the destination and the IP (for SPSR) at the eavesdropper by adopting the series representation of the modified Bessel function. Finally, Monte Carlo simulations are conducted to validate the theoretical analysis and the proposed schemes’ effectiveness. Simulation results show the superiority of our scheme compared to the benchmarks.

Research on Physical Layer Security of Cooperative Networks Based on Swipt

Hao Hao, Xin Ying Li

In Cooperative Networks based on simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT), relay nodes collect the energy of radio signals received from source node and transmit the information of source nodes to destination nodes, which not only prolongs the service life of energy-constrained nodes, but also improves the ability of long-distance transmission of information. Due to the openness of energy harvesting, there may be eavesdropping users with malicious decoding. In order to study the security performance of the Cooperative Networks based on SWIPT, this paper mainly studies the physical layer security performance of this network, derives and simulates the expression of system security outage probability and throughput. The simulation results show that the system security performance is mainly influenced by time allocation parameter of SWIPT and decreases with the increase of target rate.

Exploiting full Duplex techniques for secure communication in SWIPT system

Weifeng Mou, Yueming Cai, Weiwei Yang +3 more

This work investigates the secure transmission in the wireless information and power transfer system where a source node communicates with a wireless-powered full-duplex destination node in the presence of a passive eavesdropper. In particular, we propose such a two-phase time-sharing (TS) secure communication protocol: in the first phase, energy harvesting is conducted from the source node to the destination node, while in the second phase, the source node transmits information-bearing signal under the protection of artificial noise sent from the destination node. It is worth to mention that the energy of this artificial noise at the destination node is converted from the harvested energy in the first phase and self-interference exists at the destination in the second phase. We derive the closed-form expressions for the connection outage probability (COP), the secrecy outage probability (SOP) and the transmission outage probability (TOP), based on which the secrecy throughput is formulated. Further, we determine the optimal time allocation factor and the optimal codeword transmission rate to maximize the secrecy throughput with dual outage constraints. Finally, numerical results verifies our results and exams the effect of the time allocation factor and the codeword transmission rate on the performance.

Anti-eavesdropping Scheme on Physical Layer for Full-Duplex Relay System Based on SWIPT

Haoyuan Zhou, Weijia Lei

A secure transmission scheme of anti-eavesdropping on the physical layer in simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) is proposed. Each node in the system is a single-antenna node. There are direct links between eavesdropping node and the source or relay node. The relay work in a full-duplex mode, which uses the amplify-and-forward method to forward the signal. Between the source and relay node is SWIPT mode. The relay collects energy from the received radio frequency (RF) signal and uses it for forwarding. The destination node is also a full-duplex node, sends artificial noise to perform cooperative interference while receiving information to intercept the eavesdropping node. Aiming at maximizing the secrecy rate of the system, the power splitting factor, signal and artificial noise power distribution factor are optimized when the relay adopts the power splitting method. Simulation results suggest that the use of power splitting way and cooperative interference scheme at destination can significantly improve the performance of system.
