Abstract

This article describes the process of synchronizing the generation of random sequences by a quantum random number generator (QRNG) that can be used as secret keys for known cryptographic transformations. The subject of the research is a method for synchronizing the generation of random QRNG sequences based on L1 (C/A) signals of the global positioning system (GPS) using control correcting information received from control correcting stations.

Method of Generating Random Numbers by the Group of Quantum Generators of Random Numbers in the Synchronization Mode

Олексій Нарєжній, Daniel Jancarczyk, І.Д. Горбенко +2 more

The object of research is the process of mutual synchronization of quantum random number generators (QRNG) in the group standard of quantum noise. A method for generating random numbers is proposed, which relates to the methods of group standardization of the QRNG, and is used to increase the speed and reliability of the random number formation The paper substantiates the mathematical model of quantum phase noise of the QRNG group, which are in a mutual synchronization mode. The method is based on solving the problem of identifying parameters of a group of the same type to the QRNG in the mutual synchronization mode. The solution to this problem requires the availability of reliable and operational data when calculating the Kalman filter parameters necessary for estimating the synchronization parameters of quantum measures of phase noise. The results of experimental studies presented in the article are an example of building a QRNG with a given level of reliability and speed. A feature of the proposed QRNG quantum phase noise measurement system is the synchronization of processing time using GPS signals (Ll C/A).

IMPLEMENTATION AND EVALUATION OF A QUANTUM RANDOM NUMBER GENERATOR BASED ON ANU QRNG FOR CRYPTOGRAPHIC APPLICATION

Софія Парфило, Віталій Вікторович Коваль

Topicality. Reliable random number generation is one of the key requirements for modern cryptographic systems and cybersecurity applications. Traditional pseudo-random number generators are based on deterministic algorithms and may exhibit limited entropy and predictability, which can negatively affect information security. The subject of study in the article is methods of quantum random number generation and approaches to evaluating the quality of generated random sequences. The purpose of the article is to analyze modern methods of quantum random number generation, develop a software tool for obtaining quantum random numbers based on the ANU Quantum Random Number Generator service, perform statistical testing of the generated sequences, and analyze the obtained results. The following results were obtained. Modern quantum random number generation systems were analyzed and compared. A software tool was implemented in Python for automatic retrieval of quantum random numbers through the ANU QRNG API. The generated binary sequences were evaluated using Frequency Test and Block Frequency Test from the NIST SP 800-22 statistical test suite. The obtained p-values were 0.977181 and 0.200659 respectively, confirming successful completion of both tests. Additionally, visual analysis of the generated sequences revealed no noticeable patterns or repetitive structures. Conclusion. The obtained results confirm the high quality of quantum random sequences generated using ANU QRNG and demonstrate the applicability of the developed software tool for cryptographic and cybersecurity applications requiring high-quality randomness.

Quantum Randomness in Cryptography—A Survey of Cryptosystems, RNG-Based Ciphers, and QRNGs

Anish Saini, Athanasios Tsokanos, Raimund Kirner

Cryptography is the study and practice of secure communication with digital data and focuses on confidentiality, integrity, and authentication. Random number generators (RNGs) generate random numbers to enhance security. Even though the cryptographic algorithms are public and their strength depends on the keys, cryptoanalysis of encrypted ciphers can significantly contribute to the unveiling of the cipher’s key. Therefore, to ensure high data security over a network, researchers need to improve the randomness of keys as they develop cryptosystems. Quantum particles have a leading edge in advancing RNG technology as they can provide true randomness, unlike pseudo-random numbers generators (PRNGs). In order to increase the level of the security of cryptographic systems based on random numbers, this survey focuses on three objectives: Cryptosystems with related cryptographic attacks, RNG-based cryptosystems, and the design of quantum random number generators (QRNGs). This survey aims to provide researchers with information about the importance of RNG-based ciphers and various research techniques for QRNGs that can incorporate quantum-based true randomness in cryptosystems.

True Random Number Generation on IBM Real-Time Quantum Computer for Secure and Unpredictable Cryptographic Applications

V. Karthick, S Haritha, Janani K

Truly random integers, which are the absolute requirement for this type of cryptography, are necessary for data security. Conventional PRNGs is deterministically which makes them predicted. This type of weakness is present in them. Unlike conventional algorithms, QRNG uses something very fundamental, quantum physics. It has allowed for a breakthrough in using random numbers that are unpredictable. The main goal of the project to design a system including the QRNG (quantum random number generator) and cloud platform developed by IBM. The system produces robust and ideal output for cryptography while being both effective and efficient. We will conduct detailed and effective tuning and testing so as to increase output. Outputs of this project are a QRNG system built on the cloud that can be connected with cryptographic applications, certified sequence, and informational materials of the organization. With this research of QRNGs synchronized with the IBM cloud platform, we make cryptographic security stronger by using the quantum mechanical method to create truly random numbers. Moreover, QRNGs contribute to the cryptographic applications which are intended to be incredibly secure and of high dependability by providing random numbers to enter the realm of crypto-with very little human participation. Basically, the cloud-based architecture enable systems to scale and possible failure resilience via migrating the workload or storing the data online. Quantum improvements will speed up the process of replacing the currently accepted cryptographic paradigm with something opening new ways of digital communication. This research is about quantum physics, cloud computing, and cryptography, bringing together how these concepts operate, as a result, of the unexpected and secure cryptographic applications.

Synchronization of High-Speed Quantum Random Number Generators via Digital Television Channels

Олексій Нарєжній, Tetiana Grinenko, Maksym Trotsko +1 more

The problem of synchronizing the process of generating secret keys by quantum random number generators via different communication channels is relevant for promising cryptographic complexes for various purposes. Reference timestamps broadcast by Global Navigation Satellite Systems of various countries have found wide application in synchronization systems for the generation and transmission of cryptographic keys. Signals from these systems are susceptible to spoofing and jamming attacks, which have been implemented in practice by various researchers. Therefore, it is proposed to use digital television channels as an alternative channel for transmitting timestamps. The process of synchronization using signals from digital television channels is understudied. This paper presents an algorithm for extracting reference timestamps from the wavelet spectrum of an image broadcast on digital television channels. The algorithm is based on the selection of the vector of wavelet coefficients of the video signal fragment corresponding to the timestamp. The procedure for extracting the wavelet spectrum of the timestamp is carried out using a multilayer neural network. Timestamps are used to temporally synchronize the process of generating secret keys by a quantum random number generator.

Quantum Random Number Generators (QRNG)

Bruno Huttner, Gilles Trachsel

Abstract Cryptographic processes rely on randomness to ensure secure encryption by generating unpredictable keys and patterns, thereby preventing attackers from guessing them. This chapter explores various methods for generating randomness, with a focus on Quantum Random Number Generators (QRNGs), which are considered the most secure option for cryptographic implementations. QRNGs leverage the inherent unpredictability of quantum phenomena and are being explored for a variety of use cases, from small devices to large-scale servers, with the potential to enhance security in diverse systems. However, their broader adoption faces limitations, such as cost, scalability, and integration challenges, which must be addressed for widespread practical implementation.
