Abstract

In order to improve the security performance of the non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) cooperative transmission system, this paper studies an eavesdropping system based on NOMA cooperative transmission multi-slot combined reception (MSCR) strategy. The closed-form expression of ergodic secrecy rate (ESR) and optimal power allocation factor (OPAF) under the strategy are derived. The simulation results show that when existing an eavesdropping node with strong decoding capability, compared with the existing NOMA cooperative transmission strategy and direct link strategy, the MSCR-NOMA strategy has a maximum increase of 0.281 bps/Hz and 0.937 bps/Hz in ergodic secrecy rate.

Analysis on Secrecy Capacity of Cooperative Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access With Proactive Jamming

Chaoying Yuan, Xiaofeng Tao, Na Li +3 more

This paper analyzes the secrecy capacity of a cooperative relaying system using non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA). A new cooperative NOMA scheme is proposed, where the source actively sends jamming signals while the relay is forwarding, thereby enhancing the security of intended communication links. Closed-form expressions for the ergodic secrecy rate are derived in the presence of an eavesdropper. Asymptotic approximate expressions for the ergodic secrecy rate are established in high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) regime, which provides insights on secure NOMA transmission. Numerical results reveal the critical condition, under which NOMA is able to outperform orthogonal multiple access (OMA) in terms of secrecy rate. The proposed NOMA scheme can improve the secrecy rate by about 78.1%.

Performance of Cooperative NOMA Systems under Passive Eavesdropping

Basem M. ElHalawany, Rukhsana Ruby, Taneli Riihonen +1 more

A key feature of the non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) technique is that users with better channel conditions have prior information about the messages of other users. The technique to exploit the prior knowledge of strong users in order to improve the performance of weak users is known as cooperative NOMA. In this paper, we study the physical layer security in such a cooperative NOMA system. In order to reduce the complexity, the considered system in this paper has two users. Through the cooperative NOMA concept, the performance of the weak user is enhanced by the strong user. Given that there is an eavesdropper in the system that can hear all transmissions, we study the secrecy rate of the strong and the weak users. More specifically, we make an attempt to derive the secrecy outage probability (SOP) of both the users. Due to the intractable nature of the exact analysis for the weak user, we provide the closed form expression for the SOP of this user in high SNR regime while keeping the exactness for the strong user. Through numerical simulations, we verify the correctness of our analytical derivations under different scenarios. Besides, we provide the insights of achieving optimal secrecy performance in such a system.

Secrecy Performance Analysis of Multi-Antenna NOMA System with AF/DF relaying under External and Internal Eavesdropping Scenarios

Nesrine Zaghdoud, Adel Ben Mnaouer, Wided Hadj Alouane +2 more

Due to the successive interference cancellation (SIC) technique, Non orthogonal multiple Access (NOMA) users have the capability of decoding the other paired users sharing the same resource bloc. As a result, NOMA technique is not only exposed to external eavesdropping, but also to internal eavesdropping which raises security risks regarding NOMA users' privacy. Therefore, this research aims to analyse a Multi-antenna cooperative NOMA system where both Decode and Forward (DF) and Amplify and Forward (AF) strategies are studied. In this context, we investigate the secrecy performance of our system with both internal and external eavesdropping scenarios. Closed-form expressions of the secrecy outage probability (SOP) and the strictly positive secrecy capacity (SPSC) metrics are derived. Numerical results are given to illustrate the validity of the obtained theoretical results.

Secure Transmission Design for Cooperative NOMA in the Presence of Internal Eavesdropping

Binbin Su, Wenjuan Yu, Hongbo Liu +2 more

The application of successive interference cancellation (SIC) introduces critical security risks to cooperative non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) systems in the presence of untrustworthy network nodes, referred to as internal eavesdroppers. To address this potential security and reliability flaw, by assuming all users are untrusted, this letter investigates the effective secrecy throughput (EST) for a cooperative NOMA system, where a near user serves as an amplify-and-forward relay to help forward the information of a far user. Considering the inverse power allocation and SIC decoding order, a novel jamming strategy is proposed to enhance the security performance of the far user. Gauss-Chebyshev approximations of ESTs over Nakagami-${m}$channels are derived. Asymptotic EST expressions are proposed to provide further insights. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed jamming strategy and the inverse power allocation and SIC decoding order are both essential for achieving positive secrecy rates for both users.

Cooperative Relay Transmission under Physical Layer Security for Non-Orthogonal Networks

Mohammed Ahmed Salem, Azlan Abd Aziz, Mohamad Yusoff Alias

In this paper, the secrecy performance for a downlink cooperative non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) communication system is studied under two cases. In the first case, the presence of an untrusted user is studied. While, the presence of an eavesdropper node is considered in the second case. The base station transmits superimposed information signals to the half-duplex two-way relay node. The relay amplifies-and-forwards the received signal towards the users. This paper studies the effectiveness of two factors on the secrecy performance in terms of secrecy capacity. these factors are the power allocated for each user, and the distance between the untrusted user and the cooperative relay node with respect to the strong user. Moreover, this paper proposes the shared jamming signal strategy in order to enhance the physical layer security of the cooperative NOMA in the presence of an eavesdropper node. Furthermore, simulations of the secrecy capacity are presented and compared with a conventional scheme based on null-steering jamming scheme. Based on the result the proposed technique outperforms the conventional technique in terms the of secrecy capacity.

Weighted Ergodic Sum Secrecy Rate Maximization in a NOMA System With Untrusted User Terminals

Pradosh Kumar Hota, Deepak Mishra, Ravikant Saini +1 more

Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access (NOMA) is a wireless communication technique that uses the Successive Interference Cancellation (SIC) strategy to achieve high efficiency. However, SIC can pose security risks in an untrusted NOMA environment where users can suffer from internal eavesdropping. In this research paper, we propose security solutions for downlink NOMA transmission involving two untrusted user terminals and imperfect SIC. Specifically, we investigate the ergodic secrecy rate performance in NOMA for two user terminals against mutual eavesdropping. To achieve the maximum weighted ergodic sum secrecy rate of the system while meeting the quality of service (QoS) requirements of both user terminals, we formulate an optimization problem for power allocation. Our solution approach considers a decoding order that yields the best possible outcome and employs an iterative method to obtain the optimal power allocation. Simulation results confirm the analytical claims and provide key insights on the optimal design parameters. Lastly, we numerically demonstrate that our proposed power control and decoding order design outperforms the benchmark schemes in terms of weighted ergodic sum secrecy rate performance.
