Abstract

Quantum teleportation is a key primitive across a number of quantum information tasks and represents a fundamental ingredient for many quantum technologies. Channel capacity, other than the fidelity, becomes another focus of quantum communication. Here, we present a 5-channel multiplexing continuous-variable quantum teleportation protocol in the optical frequency comb system, exploiting five-order entangled sideband modes. Because of the resonant electro-optical modulation (EOM) that is specifically designed, the fidelities of five channels are greater than 0.78, which are superior to the no-cloning limit of 2 / 3 . This work provides a feasible scheme for implementing efficient quantum information processing.

Demonstration of Channel Multiplexing Quantum Communication Exploiting Entangled Sideband Modes

Shaoping Shi, Long Tian, Yajun Wang +3 more

Channel multiplexing quantum communication based on exploiting continuous-variable entanglement of optical modes offers great potential to enhance channel capacity and save quantum resource. Here, we present a frequency-comb-type control scheme for simultaneously extracting a lot of entangled sideband modes with arbitrary frequency detuning from a squeezed state of light. We experimentally demonstrate fourfold channel multiplexing quantum dense coding communication by exploiting the extracted four pairs of entangled sideband modes. Due to high entanglement and wide frequency separation between each entangled pairs, these quantum channels have large channel capacity and the cross talking effect can be avoided. The achieved channel capacities have surpassed that of all classical and quantum communication under the same bandwidth published so far. The presented scheme can be extended to more channels if more entangled sideband modes are extracted.

Exponentially enhanced quantum communication rate by multiplexing continuous-variable teleportation

Andreas Christ, Cosmo Lupo, Christine Silberhorn

A major challenge of today's quantum communication systems lies in the transmission of quantum information with high rates over long distances in the presence of unavoidable losses. Thereby the achievable quantum communication rate is fundamentally limited by the amount of energy that can be transmitted per use of the channel. It is hence vital to develop quantum communication protocols that encode quantum information as energy efficiently as possible. To this aim we investigate continuous-variable quantum teleportation as a method of distributing quantum information. We explore the possibility to encode information on multiple optical modes and derive upper and lower bounds on the achievable quantum channel capacities. This analysis enables us to benchmark single-mode versus multi-mode entanglement resources. Our research reveals that multiplexing does not only feature an enhanced energy efficiency, leading to an exponential increase in the achievable quantum communication rates in comparison to single-mode coding, but also yields an improved loss resilience. However, as reliable quantum information transfer is only achieved for entanglement values above a certain threshold a careful optimization of the number of coding modes is needed to obtain the optimal quantum channel capacity.

Free-Space Quantum Teleportation with Orbital Angular Momentum Multiplexed Continuous Variable Entanglement

Xinchao Ruan, Hang Zhang, Wenqi Peng +4 more

Quantum teleportation is one of the fundamental primitives of quantum cryptography. In order to achieve a wider range of high-capacity information transfer, we propose a free-space quantum teleportation (QT) protocol with orbital angular momentum (OAM) multiplexed continuous variable (CV) entangled states. The preparation of the entangled states is accomplished by the spontaneous four-wave mixing (SFWM) process occurring in a hot 85Rb vapor cell, and the mode selection for the Bell-state measurement is achieved by employing the balanced homodyne detection technique. The fidelity of teleporting EPR entangled states carrying different topological charges via a Kolmogorov-type atmospheric turbulence channel is derived, and the superiority of enhancing the system channel capacity via OAM multiplexing is demonstrated. Our work provides a feasible scheme to implement high-capacity quantum communication in atmospheric environments.

Optical frequency comb–based multichannel parallel continuous-variable quantum network coding

Tianai Zhou, Gang Xu, Yewei Guo +4 more

Quantum network coding provides a solution for information transmission at bottleneck channels. However, the single-path scheduling approach is hampered in the face of massive data transmission demands, which is particularly challenging in large-scale network communication scenarios. Here we propose a continuous-variable quantum network coding (CVQNC) scheme for parallel transmission of multiple quantum states based on optical frequency combs. The quantum communication channel is naturally constructed due to the nonclassical correlations exhibited by the symmetric sideband modes at around half the pump frequency on the squeezed field. Source nodes with preshared multiplex entanglement enable the transmission of multiple quantum states in parallel and simultaneously, which increases the channel capacity of the network and relieves the single-path transmission pressure. In particular, fidelity is calculated as a critical measure of transmission performance, and we provide a method to increase fidelity using photon catalysis, along with squeezing parameters and beam splitter transmittance for non-Gaussian source states at optimal fidelity. Furthermore, the channel capacity and fidelity of the CVQNC system are predicted on the basis of the $k$-nearest neighbor algorithm, and the predicted data match well with the actual derivation.

Orbital angular momentum multiplexed deterministic all-optical quantum teleportation

Shengshuai Liu, Yanbo Lou, Jietai Jing

Quantum teleportation is one of the most essential protocol in quantum information. In addition to increasing the scale of teleportation distance, improving its information transmission capacity is also vital importance for its practical applications. Recently, the orbital angular momentum (OAM) of light has attracted wide attention as an important degree of freedom for realizing multiplexing to increase information transmission capacity. Here we show that by utilizing the OAM multiplexed continuous variable entanglement, 9 OAM multiplexed channels of parallel all-optical quantum teleportation can be deterministically established in experiment. More importantly, our parallel all-optical quantum teleportation scheme can teleport OAM-superposition-mode coded coherent state, which demonstrates the teleportation of more than one optical mode with fidelity beating the classical limit and thus ensures the increase of information transmission capacity. Our results open the avenue for deterministically implementing parallel quantum communication protocols and provide a promising paradigm for constructing high-capacity all-optical quantum communication networks.
