Abstract

In this paper, we theoretically analyze optically-induced transparency and absorption properties of a weak probe field in a two-mode coupled micro-cavity system and explore the tunable asymmetric Fano line shape of the transmission rates of the probe field. Both the modes in our system consist of an optical Kerr medium, one of them being passive while the other mode can be either active or passive. The forward transmission and backward reflection profile of the probe field are investigated for both passive–passive and passive–active cavity systems by varying different system parameters such as probe field detuning, photon tunneling strength, gain-to-loss ratio, etc. The results of this study have the potential to be applied in construction of quantum telecommunication and photonic devices.

Fano resonance and slow light in hybrid optomechanics mediated by a two-level system

Cheng Jiang, Lei Jiang, Hualing Yu +3 more

We study the Fano resonance and slow light in a hybrid optomechanical system, where a mechanical resonator is coupled to a cavity via radiation pressure and to a two-level system (qubit) via the Jaynes-Cummings coupling. The absorption spectra of the weak probe field can exhibit a series of asymmetric Fano line shapes when the frequency of the strong control field varies. The positions of the double Fano resonances can be determined by the cavity--control-field detuning, the qubit-resonator coupling strength, and the transition frequency of the qubit. Furthermore, the transparency windows in the probe transmission spectrum are accompanied by the rapid normal phase dispersion, which indicates the slow light effect. We find that the group delay of the transmitted probe field can be tuned by the frequency and amplitude of the control field and is inversely proportional to the decay rate of the qubit.

The Fano and EIT-like resonance characteristic of asymmetric double micro-ring resonator

Chao Zhao

By breaking the symmetrical arrangement of double micro-ring resonator, the formation mechanism and performance of reflection and transmission spectrum and optical field distribution are investigated. The reflection spectrum is Fano shape. The Fano resonance has an asymmetric and sharp resonance peak can be independently tuned by changing the asymmetric coupling factor of the first micro-ring. The transmission spectrum is electromagnetically induced transparency(EIT)-like shape. The (EIT)-like resonance can be independently tuned by changing the absorption factor and the phase shift factor of the second micro-ring. The Fano and EIT-like resonance have low loss and high near-field localization characteristics, our research has promising applications in optical communication and opto-electronic modulators.

Fano resonance and amplification in a quadratically coupled optomechanical system with a Kerr medium

Sumei Huang, Aixi Chen

We discuss the Fano resonance and amplification in a quadratically coupled optomechanical system with a nonlinear Kerr medium. We find that effective cavity detuning and the strength of the Kerr nonlinearity lead to the appearance of the Fano resonance in the output probe field at room temperature, respectively. We show that the Kerr nonlinearity causes the asymmetric line shape to appear in the intensities of the output Stokes field and the second-order upper sideband generation. We also show that the Kerr nonlinearity can amplify the intensities of the output Stokes field and the second-order upper sideband generation, and the amplification factor is related to the strength of the Kerr nonlinearity. The findings of this study have potential applications in optical switching and frequency conversion.

Controllable optical bistability and Fano line shape in a hybrid optomechanical system assisted by kerr medium: possibility of all optical switching

Aranya B. Bhattacherjee, Muhammad Sami Hasan

We theoretically analyse the optical and optomechanical nonlinearity present in a hybrid system consisting of a quantum dot(QD) coupled to an optomechanical cavity in the presence of a nonlinear Kerr medium, and show that this hybrid system can be used as an all optical switch. A high degree of control and tunability via the QD-cavity coupling strength, the Kerr and the optomechanical nonlinearity over the bistable behaviour shown by the mean intracavity optical field and the power transmission of the weak probe field can be achieved. The results obtained in this investigation has the potential to be used for designing efficient all-optical switch and high sensitive sensors for use in Telecom systems.

Electromagnetically induced transparency and second-order sideband effects in a Laguerre–Gaussian cavity optorotational system with Kerr medium

Jing-Xuan Li, Sumei Huang, Aixi Chen

Abstract In this paper, we investigate the phenomena of electromagnetically induced transparency and the generation of second-order sideband in a Laguerre–Gaussian cavity optorotational system with a Kerr nonlinear medium. Using the perturbation method, we analyze the first- and second-order sideband generations in the output field from the system under the actions of a strong control field and a weak probe field. Numerical simulations show that the Kerr nonlinearity can lead to the occurrence of the asymmetric line shape in the transmission of the probe field. Comparing with traditional scheme for generating the second-order sideband, our spectral shape of the second-order sideband is amplified and becomes asymmetric, which has potential applications in precision measurement, high-sensitivity devices, and frequency conversion.

Electromagnetically induced transparency and tunable fano resonances in hybrid optomechanics

Muhammad Javed Akram, Fazal Ghafoor, Farhan Saif

We explain the phenomena of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) of a weak probe field and tunable Fano resonances in hybrid optomechanics. The system of study consists of a two-level atom coupled to a single-mode field of an optomechanical resonator with a moving mirror. We show that a single EIT window exists in the presence of optomechanical coupling or Jaynes–Cummings coupling, whereas two distinct double EIT windows occur when both the couplings are simultaneously present. Furthermore, based on our analytical and numerical work, we prove the existence of tunable Fano resonances in the system. The controlling parameters of the system, which switch from a single EIT window to double EIT windows and are needed to tune the Fano resonances, can be realized in present-day laboratory experiments.
