Abstract

We study the Fano resonance and slow light in a hybrid optomechanical system, where a mechanical resonator is coupled to a cavity via radiation pressure and to a two-level system (qubit) via the Jaynes-Cummings coupling. The absorption spectra of the weak probe field can exhibit a series of asymmetric Fano line shapes when the frequency of the strong control field varies. The positions of the double Fano resonances can be determined by the cavity--control-field detuning, the qubit-resonator coupling strength, and the transition frequency of the qubit. Furthermore, the transparency windows in the probe transmission spectrum are accompanied by the rapid normal phase dispersion, which indicates the slow light effect. We find that the group delay of the transmitted probe field can be tuned by the frequency and amplitude of the control field and is inversely proportional to the decay rate of the qubit.

Phase-controlled amplification and slow light in a hybrid optomechanical system

Cheng Jiang, Yuanshun Cui, Zhangyin Zhai +3 more

We theoretically investigate the transmission and group delay of a probe field incident on a hybrid optomechanical system, which consists of a mechanical resonator simultaneously coupled to an optical cavity and a two-level system (qubit). The cavity field is driven by a strong red-detuned control field, and a weak coherent mechanical driving field is applied to the mechanical resonator. With the assistance of additional mechanical driving field, it is shown that double optomechanically induced transparency can be switched into absorption due to destructive interference or amplification because of constructive interference, which depends on the phase difference of the applied fields. We study in detail how to control the probe transmission by tuning the parameters of the optical and mechanical driving fields. Furthermore, we find that the group delay of the transmitted probe field can be prolonged by the tuning the amplitude and phase of the mechanical driving field.

Optomechanically tuned Fano resonance and slow light in a quadratically coupled optomechanical system with membranes

Xiao-Yun Wang, Liu-Gang Si, Xiao-Hu Lu +1 more

Abstract Realizing and controlling a Fano resonance is of fundamental significance in physics and may find applications in optical switching and sensitivity-enhanced biochemical sensing. Here we present a practicable scheme to realize Fano resonance and slow light in a quadratically coupled optomechanical system with membranes. It is shown that Fano resonance generation is precisely controlled by changing the frequency detuning between the cavity field and the control field in the quadratically coupled optomechanical system, while additional membrane inside the system can considerably establish a tunable switch between a single Fano resonance and double Fano resonances. In particular, the asymmetric line shape and the number of Fano resonance can be well tuned by the reflectivity of the membranes, the wavelength of the control field and the environment temperature. Furthermore, it is also shown that the slow light effects of the transmitted probe field can be obtained under two-phonon resonance condition and the group delay of the transmitted probe field can be adjusted by the frequency and power of the control field. Our scheme may help to achieve the practical application of Fano resonances relevant to the nonlinear optics.

Electromagnetically induced transparency and tunable fano resonances in hybrid optomechanics

Muhammad Javed Akram, Fazal Ghafoor, Farhan Saif

We explain the phenomena of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) of a weak probe field and tunable Fano resonances in hybrid optomechanics. The system of study consists of a two-level atom coupled to a single-mode field of an optomechanical resonator with a moving mirror. We show that a single EIT window exists in the presence of optomechanical coupling or Jaynes–Cummings coupling, whereas two distinct double EIT windows occur when both the couplings are simultaneously present. Furthermore, based on our analytical and numerical work, we prove the existence of tunable Fano resonances in the system. The controlling parameters of the system, which switch from a single EIT window to double EIT windows and are needed to tune the Fano resonances, can be realized in present-day laboratory experiments.

Multiple-Fano-resonance-induced fast and slow light in the hybrid nanomechanical-resonator system

Hua‐Jun Chen

We investigate the multiple-Fano-resonance-induced fast and slow light in a hybrid nanomechanical-resonator (NR) system, where a doubly clamped suspended NR with an embedded quantum dot driven by two-tone fields is coupled to another two NRs with different frequencies via the Coulomb interaction. We display the absorption spectra of the weak probe field under different exciton-pump field detuning, and the sharp peaks in the absorption spectra are determined by the interaction between the NRs under the resonance. In the off-resonance, the absorption spectra can exhibit multiple Fano resonance, and the positions of the multiple Fano resonances are related to the interaction between the NRs and the frequencies of the different NRs. Furthermore, the multiple Fano resonances are accompanied by the rapid normal phase dispersion, which indicates the slow- and fast-light effect. We obtain that the group velocity index is tunable by the interaction between the NRs and the detuning, which can reach the conversion between the fast and slow light.

Controllable Fast and Slow Light in the Hybrid Nanomechanical Resonator System

Hua‐Jun Chen

Abstract We propose a hybrid nanomechanical resonator (NR) system, where a NR coupled to an embedded quantum dot (QD) driven by two-tone fields is also coupled to another NR via the Coulomb interaction, and investigate the absorption spectra of the probe field under both the condition of resonance and off-resonance. The absorption spectra in resonance presents a means to determine the coupling strength of the two NRs. In the off-resonance, the absorption spectra can exhibit double Fano resonance, and the positions of the double Fano resonances are related to the interaction of the two NRs, the frequencies of the NRs, and the pump detuning. Furthermore, the double Fano resonances are accompanied by the rapid normal phase dispersion, which indicates the slow- and fast-light effect. We can obtain that the group velocity index is tunable by the interaction between the two NRs, the detuning, and the different resonator frequencies, which can reach the conversion from the fast light to slow light.

Fano resonance induced fast to slow light in a hybrid semiconductor quantum dot and metal nanoparticle system

Hua‐Jun Chen

Abstract We theoretically demonstrate the Fano resonance and the conversion from fast to slow light in a hybrid semiconductor quantum dot (SQDs)-metal nanoparticle (MNPs) with cavity quantum electrodynamics treatment. The absorption spectra of the weak probe field exhibit a series of asymmetric Fano line shapes and their related optical propagation properties, such as fast and slow light effects, are investigated based on the hybrid system for suitable parametric regimes. Further, the transparency windows (i.e. the absorption dip approaches zero) in the probe absorption spectra are accompanied by the rapid steep dispersion of the Fano resonance profile, which promises the slow or fast light effect, and even tunable fast-to-slow light propagation (or vice versa) can be achieved by controlling different parameter regimes. Therefore the investigation may indicate promising applications in quantum information processing based on the hybrid SQD-MNP system.
