Statistical thermodynamics for a non-commutative special relativity: Emergence of a generalized quantum dynamics

Kinjalk Lochan, Seema Satin, Tejinder P. Singh

There ought to exist a description of quantum field theory which does not depend on an external classical time. To achieve this goal, in a recent paper we have proposed a non-commutative special relativity in which space-time and matter degrees of freedom are treated as classical matrices with arbitrary commutation relations, and a space-time line element is defined using a trace. In the present paper, following the theory of Trace Dynamics, we construct a statistical thermodynamics for the non-commutative special relativity, and show that one arrives at a generalized quantum dynamics in which space and time are non-classical and have an operator status. In a future work, we will show how standard quantum theory on a classical space-time background is recovered from here.

Detecting quantumness with generalized Loschmidt echoes

Cecilia Cormick, Adrián A. Budini

Loschmidt echoes are a well-established method to characterize dynamical properties such as quantum chaos and sensitivity to perturbations. Here we present a straightforward generalization that identifies non-classical dynamical behavior. The generalized echoes involve four forward-backward time propagators. If these propagators do not commute, one can readily identify signatures of this property in the relations between echoes. As an example, detection of intrinsic non-commuting quantum features is analyzed in critical dynamics of a spin chain. Interestingly, this phenomenon is also observed for Gaussian dynamics and high temperature limits which are generally regarded as classical.

On the quantum dynamics of non-commutative systems

Fábio S. Bemfica, H. O. Girotti

This is a review paper concerned with the global consistency of the quantum dynamics of non-commutative systems. Our point of departure is the theory of constrained systems, since it provides a unified description of the classical and quantum dynamics for the models under investigation. We then elaborate on recently reported results concerned with the sufficient conditions for the existence of the Born series and unitarity and turn, afterwards, into analyzing the functional quantization of non-commutative systems. The compatibility between the operator and the functional approaches is established in full generality. The intricacies arising in connection with the explicit computation of path integrals, for the systems under scrutiny, is illustrated by presenting the detailed calculation of the Feynman kernel for the non-commutative two dimensional harmonic oscillator.
