Generalised array low‐density parity‐check codes

R. Sobhani

In this study, using Group Permutation Low‐Density Parity‐Check (GP‐LDPC) codes, the authors generalise the concept of array Low‐Density Parity‐Check (LDPC) codes from fields of prime order to those of prime power order. In fact, they consider the additive group of the finite field GF( q ), q a prime power, as the underlying group for the GP‐LDPC code construction and since when q is a prime, the author's code construction method coincides with that of quasi‐cyclic array LDPC codes, they call their codes, generalised array LDPC (GA‐LDPC) codes. First, they prove that, like array LDPC codes, GA‐LDPC codes are quasi‐cyclic codes. Then, they analyse the girth of GA‐LDPC codes in a way similar to that for array LDPC codes and introduce some shortened GA‐LDPC codes with girths 8, 10 and 12. For many values of g , J and L , the lengths of ( J , L )‐regular shortened GA‐LDPC codes of girth g and rate at least 1 − J / L , constructed in this study, are smaller than the lengths of ( J , L )‐regular LDPC codes of girth g and rate at least 1 − J / L , constructed in the literature. Also, simulation results show that GA‐LDPC codes perform well with the iterative message‐passing decoding.

A Note on Weight Distributions of Spatially “Mt. Fuji” Coupled LDPC Codes

Yuta Nakahara, Toshiyasu Matsushima

Spatially “Mt. Fuji” coupled (SFC) low density parity check (LDPC) codes are constructed as a chain of block LDPC codes. A difference between the SFC-LDPC codes and the original spatially coupled (SC) LDPC codes is code lengths of the underlying block LDPC codes. The code length of the block LDPC code at the middle of the chain is larger than that at the end of the chain. It is experimentally confirmed that the bit error probability in the error floor region of the SFC-LDPC code is lower than that of the SC-LDPC code whose code length and design rate are the same as those of the SFC-LDPC code. In this letter, we calculate the weight distribution of the SFC-LDPC code and try to explain causes of the low bit error rates of the SFC-LDPC code.

Girth Analysis of Quantum Quasi-Cyclic LDPC Codes

Farzane Amirzade, Daniel Panario, Mohammad‐Reza Sadeghi

Quantum quasi-cyclic LDPC (QQC LDPC) codes, as CSS (Calderbank, Shor, and Steane) codes, are attracting attention because of their good structure and popular channel coding schemes. Fully connected quasi-cyclic LDPC (QC-LDPC) codes with different girths which result in QQC-LDPC codes are investigated. We analytically prove that QC-LDPC codes with column weight at least 3, which yield a QQC-LDPC code, have girth at most 6. To obtain a QQC-LDPC code from QC-LDPC codes with girth more than 6 we should focus on QC-LDPC codes with column weight 2. We present an efficient and practical method to construct these codes with girth at least 8. Then, we extend our method to construct codes with column weight 2 and girth 12, thus reaching the largest possible girth.
