Coherent states and the -representation

J. Žák

Commuting translations in the phase plane are shown to be observables that are canonically conjugate to the annihilation operator of the harmonic oscillator states. The eigenfunctions and the eigenvalues of these commuting operators form the kq-representation. The eigenfunctions of the annihilation operator are the coherent states. The kq-eigenfunctions and the coherent states are the limiting cases of quantum-mechanical and classical wavefunctions, respectively, and it is satisfying to discover that they relate to canonically conjugate operators.

Critical comments on quantization of the angular momentum: I. Analysis based on the physical requirement on eigenfunctions and on the commutation relations

G. S. Japaridze, Anzor Khelashvili, K. Sh. Turashvili

Eigenfunctions and eigenvalues of the operator of the square of the angular momentum are studied. It is shown that neither from the requirement for the eigenfunctions be normalizable nor from the commutation relations it is possible to prove that the eigenvalues spectrum is a set of only integer numbers (in units $\hbar=1$). We present regular, normalizable eigenfunctions with the non-integer eigenvalues thus demonstrating that a non-integer angular momentum is admissible from the theoretical viewpoint.

A Remark on the Transformations between Different Representations

Yue Zhang

The paper respectively studies the transformations of spin component operators and their eigenfunctions from to representation. The studies demonstrate that if using the matrix of obtaining from the equation of transforming the eigenfunctions of and in terms of the transformation arising from Ref. [7] for all of the spin component operators from to representation, a negative symbol will occur in the result, which is not concordant with the commutation relation between and . Moreover, this matrix of transformation can not be applied to the transformation of the eigenfunctions of or . It therefore concludes that with respect to the transformation of representation of an operator and its eigenfunctions, the matrix of transformation should be obtained from the equation of transforming the eigenfunctions of the same operator from the old to the new representation.
