LARGE POLARIZATION SQUEEZING IN NON-DEGENERATE PARAMETRIC AMPLIFICATION OF COHERENT RADIATION

Abstract

Polarization squeezing is shown to occur in non-degenerate parametric amplification of coherent light and the degree of squeezing at interaction time T can be as large as 1 -e -2T .This gives 86.4% polarization squeezing for T = 1 and 98.2% for T = 2.One simple case when this occurs is on taking initially plane polarized light having equal amplitudes in the two modes that finally has equal intensities of two circular polarizations. This suggest the experimental settings of parameters to achieve this extent of polarization squeezing in coherent light.

Polarization squeezing in degenerate parametric amplification of coherent light

Namrata Shukla, Ranjana Prakash

We study polarization squeezing of a light beam initially in the coherent state using the nonlinear interaction Hamiltonian [Formula: see text]. For the degree of polarization squeezing, we use a definition written in the final form by the authors and also used in earlier papers. We find that the polarization squeezing can be very high and the degree of polarization squeezing can be less than unity by a very small amount. We achieve the polarization squeezing even for very low beam intensity under some conditions involving phase angles in the polarization modes.

Quantum Dynamics of Non-Degenerate Parametric Amplification

Per Kristian Rekdal, Bo-Sture Skagerstam

A simple model of a two-mode non-resonant parametric amplifier is studied with special regard to non-classical features such as revivals and squeezing. The methods used apply for an arbitrary pump parameter. Detailed analytical and explicit expressions are given when the coupling of the two modes has a harmonic time-dependence. Despite its simplicity the model exhibits a very broad range of intricate physical effects. We show that quantum revivals are possible for a broad continuous range of physical parameters in the case of initial Fock states. For coherent states we find that such revivals are possible only for certain discrete rational number combinations of the ratio of frequency detuning and pump parameters. Correlation effects are shown to be very sensitive to the initial state of the system.

Observation of Squeezing in Hidden Optical-Polarization States

Ravi Shankar Singh, Gyaneshwar K. Gupta, Lallan Yadava

The dynamic feature of monochromatic bi-modal chaotic optical field, enriched with orthogonally-polarized basis-modes propagating collinearly and undergoing Degenerate Parametric Amplification, is investigated to demonstrate Squeezing in Hidden Optical-Polarization states. The Variance (Noise) of Hidden Optical-Polarization Parameters showing squeezing therein is numerically studied by identifying a Squeezing - Function. This squeezing in HOPS is seen to depend critically on interaction time and an Onset-time responsible for the same is demarcated.

Quantum squeezing in temporal, polarization, and spatial domains

Thomas Symul, Warwick P. Bowen, Roman Schnabel +11 more

We present methods of transforming the standard quadrature amplitude squeezing of a continuous-wave light beam to its Stokes parameters and transverse spatial modes statistics. These two states of light are called polarization squeezing and spatial squeezing, respectively. We present experimental results of the quadrature amplitude, polarization and spatial squeezing obtained with a common experimental setup based on optical parametric amplifiers. The transformations from quadrature amplitude to polarization and spatial squeezing are achieved with only simple linear optics.

Quantum Image Generation by c.w. Optical Parametric Amplification

L. Lopez, Nicolas Treps, Claude Fabre +1 more

In this paper, experimental evidence of cw amplification of images in the quantum regime, using a phase sensitive optical parametric amplification operating inside transverse degenerate cavities. Injecting various images (mismatched Gaussian modes and double slits of different orientations) at the input of the device, showed that the output image was amplitude squeezed by 30% in the regime of deamplification of a type II frequency-degenerate OPO operating below threshold in a semi-confocal cavity, when the polarization of the input image is at 45deg from the crystal axes. The authors showed also that, in the regime of amplification, the two polarization components along the signal and idler axes had quantum correlated intensity fluctuations (intensity difference fluctuations measured at 30% below the standard quantum noise level).
