MACROSCOPIC ENTANGLEMENT

Abstract

We show how collective vibrational modes of two distant mirrors of an optical Fabry–Perot cavity can be entangled by the light bouncing between them. Such an entanglement can be demonstrated even at the macroscopic level of vibrational modes with an effective mass of the order of milligrams.

Entanglement in macroscopic optomechanical systems

David Vitali, Claudiu Genes, Stefano Mancini +1 more

We consider an optical cavity made by two moving mirrors and driven by an intense classical laser field. We determine the steady state of he optomechanical system and show that two vibrational modes of the mirrors, with effective mass of the order of micrograms, can be entangled thanks to the effect of radiation pressure. The resulting entanglement is however quite fragile with respect to temperature.

Stationary entanglement between two movable mirrors in a classically driven Fabry–Perot cavity

David Vitali, Stefano Mancini, Paolo Tombesi

We consider a Fabry–Perot cavity made by two moving mirrors and driven by an intense classical laser field. We show that stationary entanglement between two vibrational modes of the mirrors, with an effective mass of the order of micrograms, can be generated by means of radiation pressure. The resulting entanglement is however quite fragile with respect to temperature.

Steady State Entanglement in the Mechanical Vibrations of Two Dielectric Membranes

Michael J. Hartmann, Martin Bodo Plenio

We consider two dielectric membranes suspended inside a Fabry-Perot cavity, which are cooled to a steady state via a drive by suitable classical lasers. We show that the vibrations of the membranes can be entangled in this steady state. They thus form two mechanical, macroscopic degrees of freedom that share steady state entanglement.

Enhancing the Entanglement by Negative Feedback

Muhammad Asjad, Paolo Tombesi, David Vitali

Using a negative feedback in the cold damping approach it will be shown that it is possible to increase the entanglement between two optical modes exiting from a Fabry-Perot cavity with an oscillating end mirror.

Entanglement of transverse modes in a pendular cavity

Stefano Mancini, A. Gatti

We study the phenomena that arise in the transverse structure of an electromagnetic field impinging on a linear Fabry-Pérot cavity with an oscillating end mirror. We find quantum correlations among transverse modes, which can be considered as a signature of their entanglement.

Bringing quantum strangeness to the macroscopic world

Stefano Mancini, David Vitali, P. Tombesi +1 more

Abstract We show that bouncing laser beams can entangle massive oscillators like movable mirrors. Such entanglement results robust against thermal noise and detectable with common optomechanical apparatus. Thus, a quantum strangeness (entanglement) can be brought to the macroscopic, everyday, world.
