Investing in the Quantum Future : State of Play and Way Forward for Quantum Venture Capital

Christophe Jurczak

Building on decades of fundamental research, new applications of Quantum Science have started to emerge in the fields of computing, sensing and networks. In the current phase of deployment, in which quantum technology is not yet in routine use but is still transitioning out of the laboratory, Venture Capital (VC) is critical. In association with public funding programs, VC supports startups born in academic institutions and has a role to play in structuring the priorities of the ecosystem, guiding it towards applications with the greatest impact on society. This paper illustrates this thesis with a case-study: the experience of the first dedicated quantum fund, Quantonation I, chronicling its impacts on the production of scientific knowledge, job creation and funding of the industry. The paper introduces concepts to support the emergence of new startups and advocates for funding of scale-up quantum companies. The paper concludes with proposals to improve the impact of the industry by taking steps to better involve society-at-large and with a call for collaboration on projects focused on the applications with a large societal benefit.

Quantum Computing and AI: A Mega-Buzzword

Ahmed Banafa

Quantum computers are designed to perform tasks much more accurately and efficiently than conventional computers, providing developers with a new tool for specific applications. Quantum computing can provide a computation boost to artificial intelligence, enabling it to tackle more complex problems in many fields in business and science. Quantum computers are critical to process the monumental amount of data that businesses generate on a daily basis, and the fast calculation can be used to solve very complex problems which can be expressed as quantum supremacy where the calculations that normally take more than 10,000 years to perform could be done by a quantum computer in 200 seconds . Cloud access revenues will likely dominate as a revenue source for quantum computing companies in the format of quantum computing as a service offering, which will be accounting for 75% of all quantum computing revenues in 2026.

Quantum Computing: Advancing the Horizons of Computational Capabilities

Venkata Baladari

Quantum computing is a rapidly developing technology that uses the principles of quantum mechanics to perform information processing tasks that are beyond the capabilities of traditional computers. Quantum computers employ qubits, superposition, and entanglement to rapidly resolve intricate problems, with potential applications in cryptography, artificial intelligence, the development of new medications, and financial modeling. Recent breakthroughs have shown potential, but hurdles like correcting errors, maintaining qubit stability, expanding and the expense of substantial infrastructure continue to hinder widespread usage. Quantum computing also sparks ethical and security concerns, especially in relation to encryption and the development of artificial intelligence. Despite some challenges, continuous research and development are gradually enhancing the capabilities of quantum hardware and algorithms. Advances in quantum technology are anticipated to transform various sectors and scientific inquiry, providing answers to several of the globe's most intricate problems. To maximize the potential of this initiative, additional investment in education, policy refinement, and judicious implementation is essential to guarantee a balanced and positive influence on society.
