Markovian and non-Markovian dynamics of quantum coherence in the extended X X chain

Shaoying Yin, Shutian Liu, Jie Song +1 more

The Markovian and non-Markovian dynamics of quantum coherence, including single-spin coherence, two-spin coherence, and its distribution (collective and localized coherence), are investigated in the $XX$ spin chain with three-spin interaction. We find that the single-spin and localized coherence do not decrease but increase with time, which makes the dynamic evolution of the two-spin coherence more robust than entanglement and quantum discord. The three-spin interaction can lower the values of quantum coherence in Markovian evolution and heighten the oscillation frequency of quantum coherence in non-Markovian evolution because it can speed up the flow of coherence information. Finally, the trade-off relation between the collective and the localized coherence is clearly shown in their dynamic evolution. Thanks to the coherence trade-off, we find the substitution of localized coherence for collective coherence in dominating the dynamics of the two-spin coherence.

Phase space geometry of collective spin systems: Scaling and fractality

Miguel Gonzalez, M. A. Bastarrachea-Magnani, Jorge G. Hirsch

We examine the scaling of the inverse participation ratio of spin coherent states in the energy basis of three collective spin systems: a bounded harmonic oscillator, the Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick model, and the quantum kicked top. The finite-size quantum probing provides detailed insights into the structure of the phase space, particularly the relationship between fixed points in classical dynamics and their quantum counterparts in collective spin systems. We introduce a finite-size scaling mass exponent that makes it possible to identify conditions under which a power-law behavior emerges, allowing one to assign a fractal dimension to a coherent state. For the quantum kicked top, the fractal dimension of coherent states-when well-defined-exhibits three general behaviors: one related to the presence of fixed points and two associated with regular and chaotic dynamics. The finite-size scaling analysis paves the way toward exploring collective spin systems relevant to quantum technologies within the quantum-classical framework.

Facilitating spin squeezing generated by collective dynamics with single-particle decoherence

K. Tucker, Diego Barberena, Robert J. Lewis-Swan +3 more

We study the generation of spin squeezing in arrays of long-lived dipoles subject to collective emission, coherent drive, elastic interactions, and single-particle relaxation. It is found that not only does single-particle relaxation not necessarily degrade the squeezing generated in the collective dynamics, but the interplay of single-particle and collective effects can in fact facilitate the generation of squeezing in a specific parameter regime. This latter behavior is connected to the dynamical self-tuning of the system through a dissipative phase transition that is present in the collective system alone. Our findings will be applicable to next-generation quantum sensors with an eye towards atomic clocks in cavity-QED setups and trapped ion systems.
