Abstract

Quantum information processing can overcome the limitations of classical computation.Consequently, image filtering using quantum computation has become a research hotspot. Here, a quantum algorithm is presented on the basis of the classical image filtering principle to detect and cancel the noise of an image. To this end, a quantum algorithm that completes the image filtering task is proposed and implemented. The novel enhanced quantum representation of digital images is introduced. Then, four basic modules, namely, position-shifting, parallel-CNOT, parallel-swap, and compare the max, are demonstrated. Two composite modules that can be utilised to realise the reversible logic circuit of the proposed quantum algorithm are designed on the basis of these basic modules.Simulation-based experimental results show the feasibility and the capabilities of the proposed quantum image filtering scheme. In addition, our proposal has outperformed its classical counterpart and other existing quantum image filtering schemes supported by detailed theoretical analysis of the computational complexity. Thus, it can potentially be used for highly efficient image filtering in a quantum computer age.

Quantum Circuit Design for Estimated Image Median Filter

S Alsaedi Alaa, Rasha Montaser, Usama A. Aburawash +1 more

Quantum image processing is a new branch of quantum computing that aims to adapt traditional image processing tasks and operations to the quantum computing field. Obtaining images with high accuracy is a very difficult task. Filters are used to enhance the efficiency of the image and modify digital images. There are many filtering techniques, such as median filtering, Laplacing filtering, Qaussin filtering, neighborhood average filtering, and box filtering. Currently, there are limitations in quantum median filtering techniques due to either incomplete noise recognition or computational complexity. We propose the design of an estimated image median filter with a noise tolerance threshold to remove salt and pepper noise, and finally, we design a quantum circuit that decreases the computational complexity to O( . Furthermore, the simulation results demonstrate that the proposed median filtering is feasible.

Quantum Fourier Transform for Image Processing

Zhang Yu, Weibo Gao

Quantum information processing and its subfield, quantum image processing, are rapidly growing fields as a result of advancements in the practicality of quantum mechanics. In this paper, we propose a quantum algorithm for processing information, such as one-dimensional time series and two-dimensional images, in the frequency domain. The information of interest is encoded into the magnitude of probability amplitude or the coefficient of each basis state. The oracle for filtering operates based on postselection results, and its explicit circuit design is presented. This oracle is versatile enough to perform all basic filtering, including high pass, low pass, band pass, band stop, and many other processing techniques. Finally, we present two novel schemes for transposing matrices in this paper. They use similar encoding rules but with deliberate choices in terms of selecting basis states. These schemes could potentially be useful for other quantum information processing tasks, such as edge detection. The proposed techniques are implemented on the IBM Qiskit quantum simulator. Some results are compared with traditional information processing results to verify their correctness and are presented in this paper.

Development of High Performance Quantum Image Algorithm on Constrained Least Squares Filtering Computation

Shumei Wang, Pengao Xu, Ruicheng Song +2 more

Recent development of computer technology may lead to the quantum image algorithms becoming a hotspot. Quantum information and computation give some advantages to our quantum image algorithms, which deal with the limited problems that cannot be solved by the original classical image algorithm. Image processing cry out for applications of quantum image. Most works on quantum images are theoretical or sometimes even unpolished, although real-world experiments in quantum computer have begun and are multiplying. However, just as the development of computer technology helped to drive the Technology Revolution, a new quantum image algorithm on constrained least squares filtering computation was proposed from quantum mechanics, quantum information, and extremely powerful computer. A quantum image representation model is introduced to construct an image model, which is then used for image processing. Prior knowledge is employed in order to reconstruct or estimate the point spread function, and a non-degenerate estimate is obtained based on the opposite processing. The fuzzy function against noises is solved using the optimal measure of smoothness. On the constraint condition, determine the minimum criterion function and estimate the original image function. For some motion blurs and some kinds of noise pollutions, such as Gaussian noises, the proposed algorithm is able to yield better recovery results. Additionally, it should be noted that, when there is a noise attack with very low noise intensity, the model based on the constrained least squares filtering can still deliver good recovery results, with strong robustness. Subsequently, discuss the simulation analysis of the complexity of implementing quantum circuits and image filtering, and demonstrate that the algorithm has a good effect on fuzzy recovery, when the noise density is small.

Quantum Image Filtering in the Frequency Domain

Simona Caraiman, Vasile Manta

In this paper we address the emerging field of Quantum Image Processing. We investigate the use of quantum computing systems to represent and manipulate images. In particular, we consider the basic task of image filtering. We prove that a quantum version for this operation can be achieved, even though the quantum convolution of two sequences is physically impossible. In our approach we use the principle of the quantum oracle to implement the filter function. We provide the quantum circuit that implements the filtering task and present the results of several simulation experiments on grayscale images. There are important differences between the classical and the quantum implementations for image filtering. We analyze these differences and show that the major advantage of the quantum approach lies in the exploitation of the efficient implementation of the quantum Fourier transform.

Quantum implementation of the classical guided image filtering algorithm

Jiale Mu, Xiaofei Li, Xianghua Zhang +1 more

Image filtering involves the application of window operations that perform valuable functions, such as noise removal, image enhancement, high dynamic range (HDR) compression, and so on. Guided image filtering is a new type of explicit image filter with multiple advantages. It can effectively remove noise while preserving edge details, and can be used in a variety of scenarios. Here, we report a quantum implementation of guided image filtering algorithm, based on the novel enhanced quantum representation (NEQR) model, and the corresponding quantum circuit has been designed. We find that the speed and quality of filtering are improved significantly due to the quantization, and the time complexity is reduced exponentially from $$O(2^{2q})$$ to $$O(q^2)$$ .

Quantum Image Processing Algorithm Using Line Detection Mask Based on NEQR

Tao Li, Pengpeng Zhao, Yadong Zhou +1 more

Line detection is a fundamental technique in image processing. It can extract the required information, while the information that does not need attention can be ignored, thus reducing the amount of data. At the same time, line detection is also the basis of image segmentation and plays an important role in this process. In this paper, we implement a quantum algorithm based on a line detection mask for novel enhanced quantum representation (NEQR). We build a quantum algorithm for line detection in different directions and design a quantum circuit for line detection. The detailed module designed is also provided. On a classical computer, we simulate the quantum method, and the simulation results prove the feasibility of the quantum method. By analyzing the complexity of quantum line detection, we find that the computation complexity of the proposed method is improved compared to some similar edge detection algorithms.
