Abstract

Recent development of computer technology may lead to the quantum image algorithms becoming a hotspot. Quantum information and computation give some advantages to our quantum image algorithms, which deal with the limited problems that cannot be solved by the original classical image algorithm. Image processing cry out for applications of quantum image. Most works on quantum images are theoretical or sometimes even unpolished, although real-world experiments in quantum computer have begun and are multiplying. However, just as the development of computer technology helped to drive the Technology Revolution, a new quantum image algorithm on constrained least squares filtering computation was proposed from quantum mechanics, quantum information, and extremely powerful computer. A quantum image representation model is introduced to construct an image model, which is then used for image processing. Prior knowledge is employed in order to reconstruct or estimate the point spread function, and a non-degenerate estimate is obtained based on the opposite processing. The fuzzy function against noises is solved using the optimal measure of smoothness. On the constraint condition, determine the minimum criterion function and estimate the original image function. For some motion blurs and some kinds of noise pollutions, such as Gaussian noises, the proposed algorithm is able to yield better recovery results. Additionally, it should be noted that, when there is a noise attack with very low noise intensity, the model based on the constrained least squares filtering can still deliver good recovery results, with strong robustness. Subsequently, discuss the simulation analysis of the complexity of implementing quantum circuits and image filtering, and demonstrate that the algorithm has a good effect on fuzzy recovery, when the noise density is small.

Quantum image filtering and its reversible logic circuit design

Gaofeng Luo, Liang Zong, Shexiang Jiang

Quantum information processing can overcome the limitations of classical computation.Consequently, image filtering using quantum computation has become a research hotspot. Here, a quantum algorithm is presented on the basis of the classical image filtering principle to detect and cancel the noise of an image. To this end, a quantum algorithm that completes the image filtering task is proposed and implemented. The novel enhanced quantum representation of digital images is introduced. Then, four basic modules, namely, position-shifting, parallel-CNOT, parallel-swap, and compare the max, are demonstrated. Two composite modules that can be utilised to realise the reversible logic circuit of the proposed quantum algorithm are designed on the basis of these basic modules.Simulation-based experimental results show the feasibility and the capabilities of the proposed quantum image filtering scheme. In addition, our proposal has outperformed its classical counterpart and other existing quantum image filtering schemes supported by detailed theoretical analysis of the computational complexity. Thus, it can potentially be used for highly efficient image filtering in a quantum computer age.

Realization of quantum mean filters with different sized on NEQR quantum images by QFT based operations

Engin Şahin

For some image processing algorithms such as edge detection and segmentation, filtering in the spatial domain is an important pre-processing to improve the quality of the image by removing the noise in the images. The time and memory requirements for processing also increase as the size of the images increases. Besides, excessive blurring of the image during noise removal operation can lead to excessive deterioration of image quality. Therefore, the balance between noise reduction and blur needs to be well adjusted. In this paper, a new quantum method for noise reduction on quantum images using QFT-based arithmetic operators is proposed and quantum circuits are designed. Mean filtering operators of different sizes are used to remove noise. First, the classical image is represented by the gray scale quantum image model, the novel enhanced quantum representation (NEQR) model. A quantum method is proposed and circuits are presented for the realization of Mean filters of different sizes on the basis of addition and division operations. Finally, the performance of the method is evaluated by presenting the circuit complexity of the method and the experimental results. In the proposed method, it is aimed to use less resources and reduce the circuit complexity. The optimal filtering operator size is investigated for the balance between noise reduction and image blur.

Optimal Estimation of States in Quantum Image Processing

Mario Mastriani

An optimal estimator of quantum states based on a modified Kalman Filter is presented in this work. Such estimator acts after state measurement, allowing to obtain an optimal estimation of quantum state resulting in the output of any quantum image algorithm. Besides, a new criteria, logic, and arithmetic based on projections onto vertical axis of Bloch Sphere exclusively are presented too. This approach will allow us: 1) a simpler development of logic and arithmetic quantum operations, where they will closer to those used in the classical digital image processing algorithms, 2) building simple and robust classical-to-quantum and quantum-to-classical interfaces. Said so far is extended to quantum algorithms outside image processing too. In a special section on metrics and simulations, three new metrics based on the comparison between the classical and quantum versions algorithms for filtering and edge detection of images are presented. Notable differences between the results of classical and quantum versions of such algorithms (outside and inside of quantum computer, respectively) show the need for modeling state and measurement noise inside estimation scheme.

Quantum computing application in super-resolution

Ystallonne Carlos da Silva Alves

Super-Resolution (SR) is a technique that has been exhaustively exploited and incorporates strategic aspects to image processing. As quantum computers gradually evolve and provide unconditional proof of a computational advantage at solving intractable problems over their classical counterparts, quantum computing emerges with the compelling argument of offering exponential speed-up to process computationally expensive operations. Envisioning the design of parallel, quantum-ready algorithms for near-term noisy devices and igniting Rapid and Accurate Image Super Resolution (RAISR), an implementation applying variational quantum computation is demonstrated for enhancing degraded imagery. This study proposes an approach that combines the benefits of RAISR, a non hallucinating and computationally efficient method, and Variational Quantum Eigensolver (VQE), a hybrid classical-quantum algorithm, to conduct SR with the support of a quantum computer, while preserving quantitative performance in terms of Image Quality Assessment (IQA). It covers the generation of additional hash-based filters learned with the classical implementation of the SR technique, in order to further explore performance improvements, produce images that are significantly sharper, and induce the learning of more powerful upscaling filters with integrated enhancement effects. As a result, it extends the potential of applying RAISR to improve low quality assets generated by low cost cameras, as well as fosters the eventual implementation of robust image enhancement methods powered by the use of quantum computation.

Quantum implementation of the guided image filtering algorithm

Jiale Mu, Xiaofei Li, Xiang-Hua Zhang +1 more

Abstract Image filtering involves the application of window operations that perform valuable functions, such as noise removal, image enhancement, high dynamic range (HDR) compression, and so on. Guided image filtering is a new type of explicit image filter with multiple advantages. Here, we report a quantum implementation of guided image filtering algorithm, based on the novel enhanced quantum representation (NEQR) model, and the corresponding quantum circuit has been designed. We find the quality of filtering is consistent with that of the classical one and the time complexity is reduced exponentially from $O(2^{2q})$ to $O(q^2)$ due to the quantization.
