Abstract

and evaluate the von Neumann entropies of the cat states. From the reduced density matrices for individual qubits, we have calculated the entanglement entropies. The reduced density matrices represent mixed states with approximately 50/50 probabilities for states |0〉 and |1〉. The entanglement entropies are very close to one.

Entanglement and quantum phase diagrams of symmetric multi-qubit systems

Manuel Calixto, Octavio Castaños, E. Romera

Abstract For general symmetric multi-qubit systems, the behavior of one- and two-qubit entanglement for Dicke, spin coherent and parity-adapted (even and odd) spin coherent states is determined. These quantum correlations are quantified by linear and von Neumann entropies of the corresponding one- and two-qubit reduced density matrices of the multi-qubit system. These states play a fundamental role in the study of Hamiltonian systems written in terms of collective generators of the angular momentum algebra like, for example, the Lipkin–Meshkov–Glick (LMG) model. Here we shall use these entanglement measures as a signature to characterize the different quantum phases that appear in these models.

Entropy of Quantum States

Paolo Facchi A, Giovanni Gramegna, Arturo Konderak

Given the algebra of observables of a quantum system subject to selection rules, a state can be represented by different density matrices. As a result, different von Neumann entropies can be associated with the same state. Motivated by a minimality property of the von Neumann entropy of a density matrix with respect to its possible decompositions into pure states, we give a purely algebraic definition of entropy for states of an algebra of observables, thus solving the above ambiguity. The entropy so-defined satisfies all the desirable thermodynamic properties and reduces to the von Neumann entropy in the quantum mechanical case. Moreover, it can be shown to be equal to the von Neumann entropy of the unique representative density matrix belonging to the operator algebra of a multiplicity-free Hilbert-space representation.

Study of entanglement in symmetric multi-quDits systems through information diagrams

Julio Guerrero, Antonio Sojo, Alberto Mayorgas +1 more

Along this paper, we analyze the entanglement properties of symmetric multi-quDits systems in a special type of states created from the generalization to U(D) of the usual spin coherent states. By means of parity operators, we define what we call multicomponent Schrödinger cat states as parity adapted coherent states. Introducing the tool of information diagrams, i.e. representations of pairs of entropy measures, we analyze the correlation structure of this type of states and their M-wise reduced density matrices.

Modified relative entropy of entanglement for multi-party systems

An Min Wang

We present the modified relative entropy of entanglement for multi-party systems by a given relative density matrix which is spanned by a linear combination of the direct products of so-called basis of relative density matrices and reduced density matrices for every party. For three qubit system in a pure state we derive out the explicit and closed expression of our relative density matrix which is a function of the components of the state vector of three qubits. Through computing the modified relative entropy of entanglement of some important and interesting examples, we display the main behaviors and elementary properties of the modified relative entropy of entanglement and compare it with the generalized entanglement of formation. Moreover, we also propose an assistant, as the upper bound, of the modified relative entropy of entanglement.

Lower bounds on entanglement entropy without twin copy

Yannick Meurice

We discuss the possibility of estimating experimentally the von Neumann entanglement entropy S A v N of a symmetric bipartite quantum system A B by using the basic measurement counts (bitstrings) for a single copy of a prepared state. Using exact diagonalization and analog simulations performed with the publicly available QuEra facilities for chains and ladders of Rydberg atoms, we calculate the Shannon entropy S A B X associated with the bitstrings of adiabatically prepared ground states and the reduced entropies S A X and S B X obtained from the marginal probabilities in A and B . We then calculate the classical mutual information I A B X = S A X + S B X − S A B X , which is a lower bound on S A v N . We show that for a broad range of lattice spacing and detuning, I A B X is typically 20% below S A v N in regions where S A v N is large and a less close bound in regions where S A v N is low. We argue that this use of the easily available bitstrings provides a robust and efficient way to explore empirically the phase diagram of qubit-based quantum simulators and identify critical regions.

REDUCED DENSITY MATRIX AND ENTANGLEMENT ENTROPY OF PERMUTATIONALLY INVARIANT QUANTUM MANY-BODY SYSTEMS

VLADISLAV POPKOV, Mario Salerno

In this paper we discuss the properties of the reduced density matrix of quantum many body systems with permutational symmetry and present basic quantification of the entanglement in terms of the von Neumann (VNE), Renyi and Tsallis entropies. In particular, we show, on the specific example of the spin 1/2 Heisenberg model, how the RDM acquires a block diagonal form with respect to the quantum number k fixing the polarization in the subsystem conservation of Sz and with respect to the irreducible representations of the Sn group. Analytical expression for the RDM elements and for the RDM spectrum are derived for states of arbitrary permutational symmetry and for arbitrary polarizations. The temperature dependence and scaling of the VNE across a finite temperature phase transition is discussed and the RDM moments and the Rényi and Tsallis entropies calculated both for symmetric ground states of the Heisenberg chain and for maximally mixed states.
