In this paper, the problems existing in the concepts of Planck's energy element and Einstein's light quantum are analyzed, and the alternate concept of quantum and a new concept of electron transition power were proposed. This paper clarifies the common misunderstanding in classical electromagnetics that the electron will radiate electromagnetic wave when it moves around the nucleus in a uniform circular motion and points out that the electron will radiate and absorb electromagnetic waves only when it moves around the nucleus in an accelerated or decelerated motion with a change of frequency and expounds the classical physical mechanism of quantum generation. Based on this, the quantization of electron orbital energy level of hydrogen atom and the phenomenon of spectrum are explained without Bohr's “quantization hypothesis.” In addition, the photoelectric effect is explained by using the modified quantum concept. The modified quantum concept and its mechanism of classical physics break the gap between macro and micro physics, eliminate the contradiction between “classical physics” and “quantum mechanics,” and lay an important foundation for the reconstruction of unified macro and micro physics.

In this paper, the problems existing in the concepts of Planck’s energy element and Einstein’s light quantum are analyzed, and the alternate concept of quantum and a new concept of electron transition power were proposed. This paper clarififies the common misunderstanding in classical electromagnetics that the electron will radiate electromagnetic wave when it moves around the nucleus in a uniform circular motion and points out that the electron will radiate and absorb electromagnetic waves only when it moves around the nucleus in an accelerated or decelerated motion with a change of frequency and expounds the classical physical mechanism of quantum generation. Based on this, the quantization of electron orbital energy level of hydrogen atom and the phenomenon of spectrum are explained without Bohr’s “quantization hypothesis.” In addition, the photoelectric effect is explained by using the modifified quantum concept. The modifified quantum concept and its mechanism of classical physics break the gap between macro and micro physics, eliminate the contradiction between “classical physics” and “quantum mechanics,” and lay an important foundation for the reconstruction of unifified macro and micro physics.
In this paper, the problems existing in the concepts of Planck's energy element and Einstein's light quantum are analyzed, and new concepts of quantum and electronic transition power are proposed. The new concept of quantum eliminates the inherent contradiction of the old quantum concept, and can explain the structure and spectral phenomena of hydrogen atom and photoelectric effect completely on the basis of classical physics without Bohr's "quantization hypothesis". The new concept of quantum breaks the gap between macro and micro, eliminates the contradiction between "classical physics" and "quantum mechanics", and lays an important foundation for the reconstruction of unified macro and micro physics.
This paper re-examines the mechanism of electron motion inside atoms and the causes of photon radiation and photon absorption, abandoning the inherent cognition of fixed electron orbits and quantum transitions in traditional atomic physics. It clarifies that electrons have no physical fixed orbits; orbits are only imaginary concepts constructed for convenience of description, not objective physical realities. With mass, electrons possess inertia and kinetic energy. Under the three-force equilibrium of Coulomb force, electromagnetic force and inertial effect, electrons naturally move in elliptical trajectories rather than regular circles. When an electron moves along an elliptical trajectory, it naturally passes through low-energy regions near the atomic nucleus and high-energy regions far from the nucleus. This change in position arises entirely from its own inertia, involving only the conversion between kinetic energy and potential energy. The electron neither gains nor loses total energy, so it emits no photons and undergoes no energy-level change. An electron loses total energy when emitting a photon outward, and transitions smoothly and continuously to a lower overall motion range under mechanical equilibrium and inertia. Meanwhile, an electron can also absorb external photons and gain energy; its total energy increases, and it similarly expands smoothly to a higher motion range. Photon energy is indivisible and can only be emitted or absorbed as a complete unit. This is the fundamental reason why atoms show discrete emission and absorption spectra. Electron motion is entirely smooth and continuous; instantaneous quantum transitions assumed in traditional physics do not exist. Based on classical mechanics and energy conservation, this paper unifies the laws of macroscopic celestial bodies and microscopic particles, and reconstructs an atomic motion model closer to the essential nature of physics.
A hundred years ago, Planck and Einstein and others created quantum theories or quantum mechanics while they explained the photoelectric effect. Planck and Einstein empirically obtained a statistical relationship between the energy of light quantum and the frequency of light but have not studied the physical process and essence of the photoelectric effect, so some photoelectric phenomena are difficult to be explained by existing quantum mechanics currently. In this paper, a dynamical process of orthogonal interaction between a photon and an electron to form a new state of matter in photoelectric effect experiments is studied so finding that the Planck constant is a product value of the mass, length, and velocity of a high-energy particle. The dynamics of the orthogonal collision of matter (particles) can not only give the physical process and essence of the photoelectric effect, but also have great significance for the further development of quantum mechanics. It can physically explain phenomena such as wave-particle duality and quantum entanglement in the motion of high-energy particles. Its prospects can be widely used in cosmic physics, macro physics, and micro physics.
We study the energy conversion laws of the macroscopic harmonic LC oscillator, the electromagnetic wave (photon) and the hydrogen atom. As our analysis indicates that the energies of these apparently different systems obey exactly the same energy conversion law. Based on our results and the wave-particle duality of electron, we find that the atom in fact is a natural microscopic LC oscillator. In the framework of classical electromagnetic field theory we analytically obtain, for the hydrogen atom, the quantized electron orbit radius rn=a0n2, and quantized energy En=−RHhc/n2, (n=1,2,3,...), where a0 is Bohr radius and RH is Rydberg constant. Without any adaptation of the quantum theory, we present a reasonable explanation of the Zeeman effect, Selection rules and Pauli exclusion principle. Our results show that the concept of electron spin is not the physical reality and should be replaced by the intrinsic characteristic of the helical moving electron (Left-hand and Right-hand). In addition, a possible physical mechanism of superconductivity is also provided.
This chapter introduces fundamental concepts of modern physics that emerged from groundbreaking experiments and theories in the early 20th century. It begins by exploring the photoelectric effect, which demonstrates the particle nature of light (photons) and provides a basis for mathematical analysis of this phenomenon. The chapter then discusses Bragg diffraction and the concept of the wave function, illustrating the wave nature of particles such as electrons, protons, and neutrons, and introducing the idea of wave-particle duality. The probability distribution for an electron, whether trapped in a well or traveling freely, is also examined. Rutherford scattering is presented as a pivotal experiment that revealed the existence of the positively charged atomic nucleus. The chapter further explores atomic spectra, explaining how the discrete wavelengths of emitted light indicate that atomic electrons have restricted, quantized energy levels. The Bohr model of the atom is described and mathematically analyzed to predict the spectrum of hydrogen. Finally, the chapter covers the Balmer-Rydberg formula for mathematically analyzing the spectrum of hydrogen. The content is organized into sections covering the photoelectric effect, Bragg diffraction and the wave function, Rutherford scattering, atomic spectra, and a summary of the key concepts. This chapter provides an introduction to the revolutionary ideas of modern physics, including the dual nature of light and matter and the quantized nature of the atom. The chapter includes numerous worked examples and concludes with problems for the student to apply their knowledge.
