Two-step Dynamics of Photoinduced Phonon Entanglement Generation between Remote Electron–Phonon Systems

Kunio Ishida, Hiroaki Matsueda

The generation of quantum entanglement between phonons in photoirradiated remote electron-phonon systems is numerically studied. Upon excitation by a visible/ultraviolet laser pulse, the entanglement of electrons is immediately generated and that of phonons follows via electron-phonon interactions, i.e., the entanglement generation of phonons is a two-step process. Therefore, it is important to design the temporal properties of incident optical pulses in order to control the entanglement of electrons and/or phonons. These features are revealed by the quantum mutual information and the composite modes derived from the Heisenberg equation of motion. The calculated results also show that the dynamics of the phonon entanglement can be observed by time-resolved spectroscopy on the scattered light.

Dynamics of photoinduced entanglement generation between remote electron-phonon systems

Kunio Ishida, Hiroaki Matsueda

Abstract We numerically study the dynamics of quantum entanglement generation between remote electron-phonon systems by photoirradiation employing a model of multiple spins and boson modes. The Schmidt decomposition on the time-dependent wavefunction enables us to discuss the mechanism of the entanglement generation as dynamical behaviors of the singular vectors. The calculated results show that an effective entanglement source will be provided by an appropriate measurement on the phonon state.

Non-Equilibrium Dynamics of Photoexcited Correlated Quantum Matter

Alexander Osterkorn

The interaction of time-dependent electromagnetic fields with electrons in quantum materials can give rise to many both fundamentally interesting as well as technologically relevant phenomena like transient band structure manipulations or the emergence of prethermal states of matter, which are not a result of heating. This thesis contributes theoretical insights to both these topics: We model the interference of Floquet and Volkov side bands, which are a result of the dressing of electron states by light, in a time-resolved angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) experiment. Furthermore, we analyze the emergence of a band-like feature in the non-equilibrium spectral function of a one-dimensional charge-density wave insulator upon periodic driving. Secondly, we use the fermionic truncated Wigner approximation (fTWA), a phase space method for the time evolution of interacting fermions, to study the light-induced order parameter dynamics in SU(N)-symmetric fermionic lattice models. By comparison with exact analytical results for an interaction quench in the Hubbard model, we find that dephasing-induced prethermalization is correctly described by fTWA. We discuss photoinduced prethermal transitions between competing phases of matter in the large-N Hubbard-Heisenberg model and find a pronounced frequency-dependence of the transition. This work contributes to a better understanding of photoinduced order parameter dynamics from a microscopic perspective.

Light-matter entanglement after above-threshold ionization processes in atoms

Javier Rivera-Dean, Philipp Stammer, Andrew Maxwell +4 more

Light-matter entanglement plays a fundamental role in many applications of quantum information science. Thus, finding processes where it can be observed is an important task. Here, using a one-dimensional model, we address this matter by investigating theoretically the entanglement between light and electrons generated in the above-threshold ionization (ATI) process. The study is based on the backaction of the ATI process on the quantum optical state of the system, and its dependence on the kinetic energy and direction of the emitted photoelectrons. Taking into account the dynamics of the process, we demonstrate the creation of hybrid entangled states. The amount of entanglement has been studied in terms of the entropy of entanglement. Additionally, we use the Wigner function of the driving field mode to motivate the entanglement characterization when considering electrons propagating in opposite directions.
