Abstract

Quantum computing is an emerging technology that promises to revolutionize business and society. Although it is still in its early stages, firms have begun to invest heavily in the technology. In this article, we review some key themes of quantum computing from a business-oriented perspective, and construct a framework of the quantum computing business ecosystem. We also conduct an analysis of the contemporary discourse to identify four general strategies that firms are following as they invest in quantum computing. We refer to these as conventional, options, discovery, and adversarial strategies and describe and offer examples of each.

A Review on Quantum Computing for Business Applications

Sneha Nej, Subhasree Bhattacharjee, Sudakshina Mandal +3 more

Quantum Computing is gradually gaining importance as a transformative technology with the potential to revolutionize business applications by solving complicated problems beyond the capabilities of classical computers. Using basic principles such as superposition and entanglement, quantum systems can concurrently handle a wide range of combinations of possibilities. It offers several benefits in optimization, financial modeling, supply chain management, risk analysis, and machine learning. Despite the limitations of existing hardware in the NISQ era, rapid developments are enhancing scalability and reliability. This study analyses the practical implications, opportunities, and challenges of integrating quantum computing into business environments, spotlighting its capacity to drive innovation, competitive advantage, and long-term strategic growth throughout industries. By situating quantum computing within a transdisciplinary engineering and business ecosystem, this review demonstrates that quantum technologies are not merely enablers of computational speed but catalysts for systemic innovation.

Impact of quantum computing on organizations and their technological infrastructure

Diego León Betancur Pérez, Anny Carolina Betancur Taborda, Leydi Johanna Henao Tamayo

This article investigates the impact of quantum computing (QC) as an emerging technology with the potential to benefit businesses and their technological infrastructure. The main objective is to describe the challenges organizations face when adopting it, as well as the opportunities it offers in increasingly competitive and strategically complex markets driven by exponential growth. The study also identified that, while quantum computing promises to revolutionize areas such as resource optimization, productivity efficiency, and the simulation of future scenarios—enabling better-informed decision-making and risk mitigation—its implementation encounters significant obstacles: high costs, the need for specialized talent, and new security risks. To address these barriers, hybrid models combining cloud and local infrastructure, as well as microservices, have emerged as practical alternatives, enabling organizations to access this technology without requiring substantial initial investment. Ultimately, this research contributes to the academic discussion that quantum computing is not a replacement but rather a complement that can be integrated gradually and carefully. The path forward requires efforts in education and policy to ensure accessible and ethical development, preventing it from becoming a tool reserved for only a few.

Integrating Quantum Computing into Business Analytics: Opportunities and Challenges

Arun Chandra Mudhol

This article explores the transformative potential of quantum computing in the field of business analytics. It begins with an introduction to quantum computing, explaining its fundamental principles and recent advancements. The study highlights the limitations of current business analytics methods and demonstrates how quantum computing could address these limitations by offering enhanced data processing capabilities, advanced algorithms, and solutions to complex optimization problems. A comprehensive literature review is conducted to provide context and identify gaps in the existing research. The article then outlines a research design that incorporates both real-world and simulated data, using online datasets and quantum computing frameworks for analysis. The findings reveal significant opportunities for quantum computing to revolutionize business analytics, including improved efficiency, accuracy, and the ability tosolve previously intractable problems. However, the article also addresses key challenges such as technical limitations, cost, accessibility, and integration issues. The discussion highlights emerging trends and provides strategic recommendations for businesses considering the adoption of quantum computing. The article concludes with a summary of the implications of integrating quantum computing into business analytics and reflects onfuture potential and challenges.

Quantum Computing Strategy

Elena Yndurain

Quantum computing is not merely an incremental advancement in computing technology; it represents a fundamentally new paradigm, distinct from classical computing. Rooted in quantum mechanics, it introduces an entirely novel information theory. As a result, translating existing models, solution designs, and approaches to quantum computing is a complex, non-trivial task. This comprehensive book demystifies quantum concepts through accessible explanations, practical case studies, and real-world examples from industries such as aerospace, agriculture, automotive, chemicals, energy, finance, government, healthcare, manufacturing, supply chain, and telecommunications. Blending a business perspective with a scientific rigor, this book is divided into two parts. The first part covers foundational technical concepts, including quantum mechanics principles that enable quantum technologies, key quantum algorithms, mathematical frameworks, quantum computing technologies, post-quantum cryptography, the types of problems quantum computers solve, and the technology’s outlook. The second part focuses on practical applicability, presenting industry use cases, guidance on approaching quantum computing problems, mapping use cases to quantum computing, responsible quantum computing practices, and a roadmap for businesses preparing for quantum adoption. This structured approach equips readers with the knowledge and tools to effectively integrate quantum computing into their strategic planning. Quantum Computing Strategy: Foundations and Applicability serves as an essential reference for technology enthusiasts, business leaders, policymakers, and educators seeking to understand the benefits quantum computing offers enterprises. Designed as a self-contained learning resource, it empowers readers to navigate the emerging quantum landscape confidently.
