Abstract

Abstract In this study, a tunable continuous‐variable (CV) triple‐mode entanglement scheme generated by cascading a spontaneous parametric four‐wave and a sum‐frequency four‐wave mixing process is proposed. The entanglement feature of the triple‐mode is demonstrated by using a sufficient inseparability criterion. It is confirmed that the triple‐mode CV entanglement property, including the degree of violation of the sufficient inseparability criterion and the entanglement range in the frequency domain, can be modulated dynamically by modifying the nonlinear susceptibility and optical parameters. In particular, the intensity of the pumping field affects the modulation of the degree of entanglement, and the splitting of the entanglement spectrum comes from electromagnetically induced transparency. Although changing the relative detuning between the Stokes and anti‐Stokes fields can increase the entanglement degree of the triple‐mode, it results in the expansion of the entanglement range in frequency as well. Furthermore, although nonlinear susceptibility directly improves the degree of triple‐mode CV entanglement, optical detuning related nonlinear dispersion has an indirect effect as well. Such an optical triple‐mode CV entanglement with tunable properties can find applications in all‐optical quantum communication and pave the way for the generation and manipulation of multichannel quantum networks.

Tunable Continuous‐Variable Tripartite Entanglement via Simultaneous and Ordinal Cascaded Nonlinear Processes

Abstract Multipartite quantum entanglement plays a vital role in both fundamental science and quantum applications. The cascaded four‐wave mixing (FWM) process is an effective method to prepare multipartite entanglement, however, the physical nature of entanglement based on different cascading paths, i.e., simultaneous cascaded FWM (SC‐FWM) and ordinal cascaded FWM (OC‐FWM), has not yet been conclusively determined. In this article, tunable continuous‐variable (CV) triple‐mode entanglement is proposed to be generated by using both the SC‐FWM and OC‐FWM schemes. The simulation results reveal that the absorption/dispersion properties of the two nonlinear processes can be efficiently tuned by varying the optical parameters (i.e., the photon detuning and the nonlinear susceptibility), resulting in triple‐mode CV entanglement with tunable properties. Compared with the OC‐FWM scheme, the SC‐FWM scheme has a broader entanglement bandwidth and a higher degree of entanglement, where the tripartite entanglement region is 4.38% larger than that of the OC‐FWM scheme. Furthermore, these results indicate that the SC‐FWM scheme has a more compact and stable mode structure with better entanglement performance. Such tunable optical triple‐mode entanglement may find applications in specific quantum communication protocols and pave the way for implementing and manipulating multichannel quantum networks.

Generation of continuous-variable tripartite entanglement using cascaded nonlinearities

Juan Guo, Hongxin Zou, Zehui Zhai +2 more

It is theoretically shown that tripartite entanglement with different wavelengths can be generated by cascaded nonlinear interaction in an optical parametric oscillator cavity with parametric down conversion and sum-frequency generation. A sufficient inseparability criterion for continuous-variable tripartite entanglement proposed by van Loock and Furusawa was used to evaluate the degree of the quadrature-phase amplitude correlations between the three modes. The dependences of correlation on the cavity parameters and pump intensity are discussed.

Bright three-color continuous-variable entanglement generated by a cascaded sum-frequency process in an optical cavity

Youbin Yu, Huaijun Wang

Bright three-color continuous-variable (CV) entanglement generated by a cascaded sum-frequency process in an optical cavity is investigated. The second- and fourth-harmonic beams can be generated by two quasi-phase-matched cascaded sum-frequency processes in a quasi-periodic optical superlattice. Quantum correlations among the fundamental and second- and fourth-harmonic beams are calculated and discussed by applying a sufficient and necessary inseparability criterion for CV three-mode entanglement. Strong three-color CV entanglement beams with a double frequency interval can be produced in this simple system. It is experimentally feasible and may be very useful for applications in quantum communication and computation networks.

Five-partite continuous-variable entanglement generated by cascaded nonlinear processes in only one optical superlattice

Youbin Yu, Renhao Chu, Xingbo Fan +8 more

Abstract We theoretically investigate the generation of five-partite continuous-variable (CV) entanglement through injection-seeded non-degenerate optical parametric amplification cascaded two sum-frequency processes in only one optical superlattice without optical cavities. The idle can be generated by optical parametric amplification of pump and signal. Then, one beam will be generated by the cascaded sum-frequency process of pump and idle, and another beam will be produced by the cascaded sum-frequency process of pump and signal in the same optical superlattice. The phase-mismatching in the cascaded nonlinear processes can be compensated by three reciprocals of the optical superlattice by a quasi-phase-matching technique. The conversion dynamics among the cascaded nonlinear processes is analyzed by using a quantum stochastic method. The five-partite entanglement among pump, signal, idle, and two sum-frequency beams are discussed by applying a sufficient inseparability criteria for the five-partite CV entanglement proposed by Van Loock and Furusawa. This scheme of five-partite entanglement generation with different frequencies has potential applications in quantum communication and computation networks.

Abstract Quadripartite continuous-variable (CV) entanglement with different optical frequencies can be generated by nondegenerate optical parametric amplification cascaded with a sum-frequency process in only one optical superlattice. Firstly, the idler beam is generated by a different frequency process between pump and signal beams. Then, the sum-frequency beam will be generated by a cascaded sum-frequency process between pump and idler beams in the same optical superlattice. The conversion dynamics of the cascaded nonlinear processes is investigated by using a quantum stochastic method. The quantum correlations among pump, signal, idler and sum-frequency beams are calculated by applying a sufficient inseparability criteria for quadripartite CV entanglement. The results show that quadripartite CV entangled beams can be produced by this single-pass cascaded nonlinear process in one optical superlattice.

THREE-COLOR CONTINUOUS-VARIABLE ENTANGLEMENT DIRECTLY PRODUCED IN AN OPTICAL SUPERLATTICE

Youbin Yu, Zhongtao Shi, H. T. WANG +8 more

The three-color continuous-variable entanglement directly produced by a cascaded nonlinear process in an optical superlattice was investigated theoretically. This cascaded nonlinear process can be realized by using quasi-phase-matching technique in a quasiperiodic superlattice. In the first step, signal- and idle-beams can be generated by a parametric down-conversion. Then, the third beam can be obtained through sum-frequency of idle and pump. The degree of quadrature phase amplitude correlations between the three modes was discussed by a sufficient inseparability criterion with a single inequality for continuous-variable entanglement.
