Controlling quantum coherence by circularly polarized fields

Jiushu Shao, Peter Hänggi A

In terms of analytical results, we demonstrate that, within most parts in parameter space for a two-level magnetic system, suppression of quantum coherence can be induced by the circularly polarized fields. Low-frequency driving yields a dynamical localization opposite to the case of intermediate-to-high-frequency driving. The intrinsic relation between coherent suppression and the dressed-state level-crossing resonance is revealed.

Suppression of Angular-Momentum Mixing in Photoexcitation of Rydberg States by Multistate Off-Resonant Quantum Coherence

Harm Geert Muller, Lambertus D. Noordam

Coherent off-resonant excitation of an infinite series of bound states, not unlike an atomic Rydberg series, is shown to lead to suppression of mixing between the degenerate levels of the Rydberg state that is resonantly excited. The generation of high harmonics that accompanies the mixing is similarly suppressed.
